Re: [Announce] fMMS for N900

Vodafone UK (Contract) now working! My settings as follows:

fMMS Config:

APN: Vodafone MMS
MMSC: http://mms.vodafone.co.uk/servlets/mms
Resize image: 300 (I'd like to know what the min/max settings are for this...any suggestions?)
Phone number: My number

Connections config:

Connection Name: Vodafone MMS
Connection Type: Packet Data

Access Point Name: wap.vodafone.co.uk
User name: wap
Password: user
Prompt password at every login: unchecked

Advanced Settings - Proxies

Use proxy: checked
HTTP proxy: 212.183.137.12
Port Number: 8799

Sent and received MMS successfully. Many thanks to frals for the effort to get this feature working on the n900. Great stuff!

:-)

ok so i ran fMMS through terminal in user not root with /opt/fmms/fmms_gui.py and its the same as if i just opened the app through the menu. All it does is open up and has the message pop up saying you need to connect to APN in order to send/receive messages and then the program closes right away. This is what shows up when ran through terminal as user.....

Updated the app today, and using robgue's settings he posted for vodafone uk, I was able to retrieve the message i was sent the other day without any issuses whatsoever!

However, when I try sending, I attach an image and put in the number, but as soon as i press send, it freezes and i have to end the application.

Thanks again frals for this awesome effort.

Try to wait a little longer - it may send message. It actually freezes until it finishes sending.

Re: [Announce] fMMS for N900

I've got a similar issue, but for me it's python-conic. I've tried to apt-get it, but it's not showing up. Is that in extras, or do I have to add the devel repository. I've not yet added the -devel repository, just installed the deb directly with dpkg... I found a few other packages are installed that should want it (python-evolution being one of them) that complains that conic is missing. Not sure how that happened, as my N900 is pretty pure. The only thing I've installed outside of Extras was pidgin, which I installed without major issue via grabbing the debs and using dpkg.

UPDATE: Apparently python-conic is still only in the devel/testing repositories. Something to consider is that since you depend on it, it has to make it out of devel/testing as well before your app will make it out too.

Congrats on getting this going though. It's a great app and works well. Btw: I've found that if named properly and launched from the file:\\ browser, videos and sound play via the media player. (I re-named then with a 3gp extension, since that was the video type sent, played like a charm.)

Isn't the next firmware going to have MMS? If so, can't you guys just wait until it's released and get the real thing rather than playing with a buggy unintegrable version?

No, because it's a very interesting engineering task, I can learn a lot about how MMS works, makes me appreciate the open source vision of Maemo and gives frals a way to manage his creativity overflow :D

Re: [Announce] fMMS for N900

Two quick questions: One, please can I get a 'bears guide' to doing this bit? I'm a lot less afraid of xterminal than six weeks ago, and would like to try. >

If they still show up as blank messages: please email me the message file for each of these messages, they are stored in /home/user/.fmms/mms/<ID OF THE MMS>/message. NOTE: By sending me these files I will be able to read the messages and their content (hopefully :P) - if this is not acceptable please do not send me these files.

Thanks.

Secondly, is there any way of fixing so that n900 doesn't sign on the the mms connection instead of the normal one for routine roaming? I'm in a weak signal area, and I often find that after a drop, it will pick up the orangemms instead of orange gprs.

I have the same issue as chang0000 post

I have added a APN with fAPN and edited the settings.

iap list consists of

t-mobile internet (working from provider)
home tele2 (wifi @ home currently connected)
t-mobile mms ( added trough fAPN )

automatic connect is set to "Always ask"

Re: [Announce] fMMS for N900

New version 0.1.9-1 uploaded to -devel.

New feature: Long press on message gives option to redownload/delete message

@RevdKathy: If you want a step-by-step grab me on irc, otherwise the redownload option is in 0.1.9 ;)

@chang0000 & vincentstans:
I've added a check in 0.1.9-1 so it doesn't try to add "None" types anymore, please try it and see if it fixes the problem

Re: [Announce] fMMS for N900

Here are the Rogers MMS settings. Confirmed and working.

Follow the directions for creating a new APN using fAPN.

Connection Name: Rogers MMS
Connection Type : GPRS

Access Point Name: media.com
Username: media
Password: mda01

Advanced
Enable "Use Proxy"
HTTP Proxy: 172.25.0.107
Port number: 8080

Finish. Done.

Use fMMS to send. It will resize and you'll see a MMSC response of "200 OK". Good job, you're a winner.

For incoming messages, you will get an "MMS push" notification, connect to Rogers MMS, open fMMS and you'll see the message.

Big up to frals.

Re: [Announce] fMMS for N900

Additional note on 0.1.9: I've changed the daemon to run as 'user', which means you have to manually kill it (or reboot the device) so it doesn't keep running as root, failing to do this will get you some error messages when trying to delete messages and it won't delete them properly :)

"error 110, connection timeout check APN settings"

I found that I had to set the APN name to wireless.cingular just like my non-MMS data connection settings. The only difference between my normal network connection and my MMS connection is that the MMS connection has a proxy set for HTTP. Not sure why it works with it and not without it, but it's working now. (I'm on AT&T in the NY area.)

Re: [Announce] fMMS for N900

fMMS 0.1.10-1 released and uploaded to extras-devel.

New feature: "To" button should now bring up a list of contacts, and a click on the contact should list the available phonenumbers for the contact, a press on the phonenumber should insert it into the "To:" field. :)

Gosh, I really wish romanianusa would setup fMMS, because I have an MMS I'm just dying to send him.

Oh well, I guess I'll just have to wait till Maemo 6.

Seems the package importer is dead, the .deb-file is available on garage for those who feel comfortable installing it that way.

Regarding full conversations integration: It's deffo something I *want* to do, but it's a long way off still I'm afraid :)

@daperl: lol, haven't seen goatse in a long time :D

Re: [Announce] fMMS for N900

I'm not sure how common it is, but for O2 in the UK the APN string (wap.o2.co.uk and mobile.o2.co.uk .. ignoring iphone and other weird extra ones), all tend to work fine.

In fact I found rtsp udp/tcp streaming worked better with wap despite a few years ago, being filtered horrifically (couldn't even do ssh (tcp port 22). So I switched to it as my main apn even for ssh/web.

The extra APN for MMS only had a proxy configured as the difference.

So my question is. Would it be possible to have fMMS not use a system proxy via network configuration settings, requiring us to have extra/alternate network configurations, but instead to accept a proxy setting from us, then dial up using the details for the mobile provider network connection (whether already connected via wifi with a default gateway or not) and then set a host specific route to the proxy with the gprs0 interface and send the data out via that proxy.

This should mean you can be online already, be it wifi or 3G and when you try to send an MMS it just magically works even if you're on 3G without a proxy configured for the normal OS/browser.

As for receiving, well I certainly didn't need to have a network connection open on my older phones, and on the n900 I disconnect to save battery. There presumably is some magic mobile provider low level signal, like an SMS which makes the phone decide it needs to connect up and collect? The 1.1 firmward mentions MMS API additions, perhaps this is exactly what it'll help with?

Basically all this "connect secretly in the background while connected" isn't really something that should be done (since it may break stuff horribly), and confuse the ICD - but yes, I'm looking into doing it, but I suspect it's *a lot* of work, and really, is manually changing connection when getting the MMS such a major inconvience atm? ;)

Regarding you only having a proxy on the MMS APN and not on the regular one, if you just fill in the field on your regular connection and then uncheck the box you should be able to use that connection to get MMS as fMMS doesn't currently respect the value of "use-proxy" or not, it only looks for a proxy configured and uses it ;)

Yes, the "magic low level signal" is the SMS Push, which shows up as a notification on your N900 - after this fmmsd tries to connect to the MMS APN to fetch it, otherwise it fails and you can get it manually from fMMS GUI when connected to the MMS APN.

The "wappushd-dev" package contains the header files I've been using all along, so sorry, no new breakthroughs ;)

Bottom line is, the ICD in the N900/fremantle doesn't currently allow more than one connection at a time which is the problem here, setting one up without ICDs knowledge seems to be possible but is really ugly and may confuse the hell out of current connections.
