Hello, I am user from China. I can send the mms with the fmms, however I can't receive mms anyway. Faint! I try to contact my service provider for some information. Frals, would you please tell me what information I need to get from my service provider to resolve the problem? Thank you very much.

Re: [Announce] fMMS for N900

i'm wondering if it might be possible to add a phone number check on contacts, so that only contacts with a number would show up?

Are you connected to the right AP? Since I haven't messed with the sending code, it *SHOULD* work

Do you receive any "SMS Push" notification? If not, the problem might be that your operator does not have your phone marked as "MMS Enabled". On the other hand, there are some bugs in receiving the "SMS Push" which I'm working on fixing, which might also be the problem.
IMO, wait for a new release, if it still doesn't work, ask your service provider if they are sending your phone the MMS messages or not :)

It would be possible yes, but making sure each contact does not have a phone number would be a bit expensive in processing power (at least in the way it's currently handled) - I think adding a searchbar would suffice, even though contacts without a number would show up?

Re: [Announce] fMMS for N900

I had the problem with the small image that some users mentioned. The message seemed to come in ok, but the image was tiny.

This was on O2 Ireland, and if it makes a difference the message was sent from a Nokia E51

Yeah I was thinking the same thing about it taking processing power. Sure wish contacts were indexed to begin with with these kinda things in mind, so you could just call the specific index.

Have the same problem with one provider (but it works with another provider). How to make my phone marked as "MMS Enabled"? Is it possible to send some Capabilities Info to the provider?

To be honest I'm not sure, from what I've gathered sending an MMS usually enables this, but it might differ between carriers, some requires you to call them up and ask for it (also from what I've heard).

I haven't had time to actually read those UAProf's documents, but they might enable it.

Mine does the opposite and sends me everything without touching it.

How to fix this? Supply a patch containing the MMSUAProf/UAProf code and I'll be happy to integrate it into fMMS :)

[UAPROF]: “User Agent Profile version 2.0”, Open Mobile AllianceTM. URL: http://www.openmobilealliance.org
[MMSUAPROF]: “UAProf Schema for MMS Characteristics”, OMA-SUP-RDF_ccppschema_mms-V1_3, Open Mobile AllianceTM. URL: http://www.openmobilealliance.org

According to http://validator.openmobilealliance..../deli-faq.html:
x-wap-profile header item needs to be set to a link where UAProf of device is.
e.g. x-wap-profile: "URL_OF_UAPROF"

Supposedly, Nokia should be providing the UAProf file, as with all other Nokia devices. But since Nokia is not officially supporting N900 MMS, we'll have to find another way to host it.

I am looking forward to try this tonight and will test if I can control the image size received from MMSC.

BTW, this is the same approach used by SwirlyMMS (MMS for iPhone).

Hi Brito

Can you please confirm your provider - Portugal? tmn? For the wiki. Thanks :)

EDit: Planting a flag here:

All providers listed on this page up to this point are now in the wiki, except Brito's entry awaiting confirmation.

Data that is missing:

MMSC for Rogers
Connection name and type for Debitel Slovenia
Connection type and Port number for TDC Denmark

If anyone can supply that data, please do!!

a big thanks to revdkathy for fixing up the wiki-page, much appreciated! :)

0.2.2 on its way to -devel, added some exception handling now, hopefully this will make it work for a few more people as it *shouldnt* break on non-fatal errors.. I think

changelog:
0.2.2:
* bugtracker added
* wappushhandler should handle most sms push now
* banner shows when SMS PUSH decoding failed

Re: [Announce] fMMS for N900

I can confirm that the O2 UK settings on the wiki are right and I've removed the "''(Settings Unverified, please update if wrong)''" bit.

A few things I've noticed (I suspect its mostly repeating what others have said but anyways)

I'm using version 0.2.1
- I do get a notification on the New Message window but not on my conversations inbox widget Not that I'd expect it to right now since that would mean linking in to the conversations inbox - which would be great but I'm sure thats a few steps off!
- If you have an entry in your address book with no phone number (or the number of 0) then that will appear as the "senders name" with the actual senders number next to it. Deleting any 0 number names in the address book fixes this.
- There's a definite delay of receiving messages (a few hours) Mind you normal MMS can be a bit like that too
- The pictures are very small size, almost unviewableI know people have said this before
- Would be nice to be able to search address book via typing the name I think I've already read that you are looking in to this.

All in all a big thumbs up from me, MMS was something that I really needed on the N900 (since my mum has got as far as MMS but not quite to emailing photos!) and it's great to see something in progress already!

Im running now fmms ;)

I changed my settings from the internet settings menu this way:

Apn name: mms (which I changed already before I had the problem) In the settings menu I changed the name of the specific access point from internet into mms. Next I changed in the advanced settings the portnumber from 0 into portnumber 8080. DONE ;)

Their needs to be a way to have only fMMS use the proxy
When i use the at&t proxy websites are slower and don't load right

but when i don't use the at&t proxy fMMS won't download the image, i get failed to retrieve

My settings that seem to work for Vodafone Australia

Used fAPN to create a second connection

Connection Type: Packet Data
Access Point Name: live.vodafone.com
Username: EMPTY
Password: EMPTY
Proxies:
Use Proxy: tick
HTTP proxy: 10.202.2.60
Port number: 8080

In fMMS I set it to use the access point I defined above
MMSC: http://pxt.vodafone.net.au/pxtsend
Your Phone Number :+614.....

These seem to work for me, but I have not extensively tested them.

Yes, this kind of integration is waaaay off atm, but it's something I hope is possible ;)

Ah yes, a side effect of my sloppy number-matching algorithm, it's really ugly and is on my ever-growing todo list (side note: it only matches against "mobile-phone" field and "other-phone"). This should be fixed at some point ;-)

Most deffo your carrier being lazy (or the senders), as soon as the SMS PUSH Notification is showed the device has been notified and you can fetch the message :)

i have got a new error msg when im sending my first mms.
this is latest fmms 0.2.2.

Error: -3 temporarly failure in name resolution. please make sure your apn setting are correct.

anyone know what this means?

i have also connected to my mms apn before sending.

thanx.

note also in my connection setting i have tixed proxy . and inserted ip + port 9201. and i have also ticked the lower. option use web adresse. http://mms.telenor.dk.
i have also tried without this webadress tick only ip and port. still same error.

what it normally means is that there was a problem translating a web resource to its IP address.

If your proxy is a dotted ip like 66.209.11.32 instead of wireless.cingular.com, then the problem must be your mmsc setting (if mmsc is a domain name instead of an ip address).

If both proxy and mmsc are ip addresses, then there is no need to resolve it, hence you wouldn't see this problem.

Of course, you also can't rule out the possibility that the proxy server may be faulty.

thanx for your repy.

i made it work!! seems the info on the provider site said mms.telenor.dk but the customer service said, mms.sonofon.dk
and this last one worked,

cheers. and thanx for the good work @ author

p.s receiving mms seems to take long time downloading from server? or does it work at all?

This might be due to fMMS not properly formatting the SMIL part of the message - what phones have you tried sending to? Do you see the image if you send to yourself?

I was thinking to your own N900, but ok, I assume everyone who you sent to got a Blackberry as well? Most other phones does handle the invalid SMIL, except for Blackberries...

It's a bug in fMMS and it's on the todo list ;)

Thanks for reporting

If you long press (tap-and-hold) on the image, it should open a menu where you can chose "Open" and it will launch in the photoviewer, from where you can save it and do other image related stuff :)

Nice job!

couple of things
-It took couple of days to figure out that i have to manually connect first to mms ap. Now it says this after install and thats nice.
-I sent image to myself and i got two notifications? when i tried to open message it said "fetching..." and text faded away i waited 2s and pressed message about 5 times but nothing happened. Until suddeny perhaps 8 seconds after pressing it message opened for 5 times. So some kind of feedback would be nice because if there is now loading animation I start pressing buttons and its indication of hang process to me at least :)

But great job!

This is weird. Only one friend MMS image was big(25% of N900 screen) while the rest images are very small.(Small as in the size of shortcut icon for app) I tested sending an image to myself and the image was 25% of the screen.

Should I increase the resize to 600 from 300?

One notification is the "SMS Push", which basically notifies you that there is a MMS to be downloaded - if you are on the "wrong" connection, this is all that happens. However if it's possible the actual MMS will be automatically downloaded, which triggers the second notification.
Yes, the loading indicator is a work in progress, as of now it's not really working like it should due to various issues in my code - I've planned a rewrite of the UI which should take care of this, can't say when it's happening thou ;)

Weird if one of the images arrived bigger than the rest, I assumed they would all get resized the same. Either way, it's a known issue (see a couple of posts back about UAProf) and being investigated :)

The image resize is _only_ for outgoing messages, hence changing it does not affect inbound :)
