Re: Overclock the N900?

I just attempted to use the kernel deinstall on v34. The phone just showed 100% cpu use for about 30 mins so i tried to reboot which resulted in an infinite reboot loop. Desktop background loads then phone crashes. Brilliant! stuck at work so cant even reflash! is there anyway of getting the phone back up and running or do i have to reflash using the cable?

Thanks

Re: Overclock the N900?

just flashed PR 1.2

restoring installed apps, including titans power kernel v34
rebooting... no problem
trying ideal config ... no problem (so far...)

so... titans OC kernel still works after update (at least on my n900)

Me too, using starving and conservative governor.

Re: Overclock the N900?

hm, odd. do you remember what process used 100% CPU?
you should have asked here before rebooting.
yes, you'll need to reflash the kernel via flasher.
Never do some upgrades to core components if you don't have a USB cable around!
I have added this warning to the wiki page.

Re: Overclock the N900?

just a fyi.

i was on kernel27, PR 1.1.1, attempted to uninstall via kernel deinstall icon in applications menu. was fine until i rebooted, and it turn itself off after the 1st set of flashing lights (before asking for PIN).

in the end i used flasher3.5 and reflashed to 1.2.

now i can't see the maemo extra-devel repos but i'm restoring apps from espejo's repo mirrors.

will reinstall kernel34 once done ...

Re: Overclock the N900?

Installed all the needed stuff, checked that the kernel got installed. Seems to work fine.

I ran /usr/sbin/kernel-load /usr/share/kernel-power-settings/xlv
it said that it loaded successfully, I guess it's now temporarily enabled and no need for reboot?

Don't worry all sorted now. back up and running on PR1.2 with your kernel and xlv settings (250, 1000). Think it needed a reflash to be honest, seems much more responsive and less glitchy now! :)

Think the process was apt-get or something like that. Was fluctuating in conky, but my cpuload applet showed 100% cpu constantly and phone was very unresponsive.

Happy its all working again now and will never forget my usb cable again!!

Thanks!

have you installed rootsh? and which version? i think 1.8 is the latest version for use with PR1.2.

Correct me if im wrong people! but i think you need the latest version (1.8) from devel or testing catalogue, cant remember which, and not 1.5.

titan 2010-05-25 15:21

Re: Overclock the N900?

If you have installed the older versions from extras you need to look at
the corresponding instructions http://wiki.maemo.org/Kernel_Power#C...from_extras.29

installed the Official PR 1.2 and as expected (like from the leaked FW) v34 is working fine.

cant wait do get new games from OVI store and play them Overclocked!

Re: Overclock the N900?

@titan: im changing the Governors via cpufrequi to conservative, but: i cant change it when i set the settings to xlv (or any settings with max freq 600mhz)

have i done something wrong?

Re: Overclock the N900?

I was running V27 and I just tried to deinstall the kernel so I could update OTA, using:

Code:

sudo gainroot
apt-get install --reinstall -y kernel kernel-flasher

apt-get remove -y kernel-power kernel-power-modules

It looked to have worked but when I shut down, my N900 wouldn't reboot and so I'm now in the process of flashing it with the new PR1.2.

The same thing happened to me last time when I clicked on the Deinstall button from the menu, and so it may be a problem with my device that doesn't allow it to deinstall Titan's kernel properly.

We'll see what happens when I come round to deinstalling V34 in future!

Re: Overclock the N900?

Can you tell me what should I do to overclock my n900 after I have flashed with brand new PR1.2 image?
Previously I have had my n900 overclocked using the first 900mhz kernel (flashed by flasher) but I suppose that now there are better ways to overclock.

What method should I take?

I would have the same guestion. I was one of the first to jump in and use kernels made by Lehto.
Kind of hard currently to get image of what's the way to go now in this huge thread. :)

Another oc noob here, on pr 1.1 i OC'd to 800mhz but i dont remember which kernel.

Now I'm trying to use the kernel-power-settings from Extras and I go to X-term and as Root I type

"/usr/sbin/kernel-load /usr/share/kernel-power-settings/ideal"

but it says kernel load: not found

Can someone explain to me why this is happening.

Hey Gabby & Titan,

I have v27 installed and noticed it is no longer in teh garage. I am planing to reflash later to 1.2 so I have a few questions:

1) After the flash, will v27 automatically be loaded while restoring from backup?
2) If not, can I get v27 or do I have to go to v35 (there is no v34 either in the garage)?
3) Silly question, but how would I install any version from the garage?
4)Gabby since you were successful, did you just flash the image or the EMMC as well (since there is a new EMMC as well)?
5)If both did you go image first w/out the -R at the end and then EMMC with -R at the need or in different order?

Sorry for bombing you guys with questions and as always appreciate the help.

no......you will get v36 instead, and its working fine like v27, its in devel (but i think will be promoted to testing); or you might be able to install v27 in restore apps, and a yellow exclamation point will show up with the v36 update

i did not flash the EMMC coz this FW is official and confident with it.

the command without -R is flashing the rootfs, the command in flashing eMMC is quite different (wiki.maemo.org/Updating_firmware)

PR1.2 (yes the official one) with v36 installed (since about 4hrs) no problem so far - so where your N900 is laggy or unreponsive? Some particular app? Kiitos.

as i review the repos, the maemo v27 has already been removed and replaced, so you cant revert back, but if you have the dpfg files of v27, it is still possible.

i still have them with me.

All I did was run this command @ xterm after installing PR1.2 and unsuccessfully updated kernel to v36:

sudo gainroot
apt-get install kernel-power=2.6.28-maemo27 kernel-power-flasher=2.6.28-maemo27 kernel-power-modules=2.6.28-maemo27

It installed v27 and after reboot it was fully loaded and working.

Everything was laggy. Tapping on icon took few seconds before the app launced. Once it was launced it ran fine, but when I wanted to get back on task swither it took again few seconds for it to appear and then few seconds more if I clicked myself back to desktop.

Same goes with other UI elementes, like tapping on top bar to bring out the menu etc.

I tried to do few reboots with v36 to see if that helps, but no go. After downgrading to v27 everything runs normal. Though everything was running normal also with v34 & PR1.2.
