sorry Dousan forgot to mention you need to be in root.
Type sudo gainrout and then kernel-config load ideal.

Haha no problem ;) It crossed my mind after posting that you might have to be root to type the short version and now i know :)

funny part is that I don't know how to type. look how I spelled gainroot above........

I have cpufreqUI installed for temp. changes.
Now im testing more aggressive undervolting than lv profile with good results in mycofig.
Battery is good or better than before.
Is SmartReflex normaly working with stable volt. settings, PR 1.2 and Kernel 2.6.10power37?
Thanks for great work and help Titan!

Re: Overclock the N900?

I updated to PRD1.2 (without reflashing)all was smoth, till I upgraded kernel from 34 to 37. Since then my UI is laggy.
I'm using default profile. On ideal is working perfect, but I installed it to have some extra features, and I don't want to run overclocked phone when not needed.

I was trying to deinstall kernel before PRD1.2 with menu shortcut. It failed but i did OTA update and then updated kernel via app manager(there were new version)

after it i tryed :

apt-get install --reinstall kernel-power kernel-power-modules kernel-power-flasher

but no use.

The most significant slowdowns is when I'm entering to menu.
Most times I can't see animation or can see just few frames from it.

How deinstall shortcut works?

Can you have smooth interface on default settings?

Hi,
I have titan's kernel installed and everything runs smoothly but if I overclock anything else than stock I am not able to watch any videos. Anyone else having this problem?

Any solutions?

Re: Overclock the N900?

hi again...i posted twice yesterday for help but no one got back to me
here is my post again:

Hi folks,

Am a bit of a newbie when it comes to overclocking but i have have installed V28. Everything looks ok apart from when i reboot it goes back to orriginal settings. I have done the following:

installed pr 1.2 then installed the Enhanced Linux kernel for power users v2.6.28-maemo24.

then i installed rootsh opened x terminal and typed:

/usr/sbin/kernel-load /usr/share/kernel-power-settings/ideal

then i typed:

rm -f /etc/default/kernel-power
ln -s /usr/share/kernel-power-settings/ideal /etc/default/kernel-power

all appeared to work but upon reboot it went back to 600mhz

i then tried the same as above and then also tried this command:

/usr/sbin/kernel-load

again all looked ok but on reboot it has gone back to 600mhz instead of the ideal 850mhz

can anyone help me please?

in default, the kernels revert back to stock settings (250/600mhz) which is normal (and safer) you would need the help of Queen Beecon application to help you control the overclocking. to make it permanent try browsing through this

im really thankful of your patience, to tell you honestly, i saw your post the third time. so i try, in the best of my knowledge, to help. everything you need is on the wiki, browsing this thread will take forever.

since i can't get the stable enhanced kernel to work when rebooting would updating to the version in devel be advisable?

thanks gabby...just saw your post after i posted about updating...i will take a look at your suggestion.

v28 you mentioned is a non-stable one, i highly recommen (even titan will do) to update to v37. as i said, titan's kernels revert back to stock settings after reboot (which is normal) so you have to follow the instructions from the wiki to make your desired settings permanent.

i dont make my settings permanent, for the reason that i still need the stock kernel settings.

neotalk 2010-05-27 09:44

Re: Overclock the N900?

ok thanks again...think i will update and see if that works better for me.

neotalk 2010-05-27 10:09

Re: Overclock the N900?

i have v37 now installed....can i use the same settings for configuring the kernel settings (of the stable version from extras)?

/usr/sbin/kernel-load /usr/share/kernel-power-settings/ideal

&

rm -f /etc/default/kernel-power
ln -s /usr/share/kernel-power-settings/ideal /etc/default/kernel-power

neotalk 2010-05-27 10:13

Re: Overclock the N900?

after running the first command /usr/sbin/kernel-load /usr/share/kernel-power-settings/ideal i got the following message:

warning this command is depreciated, executing: kernel-config load /usr/sbin/kernel-load /usr/share/kernel-power-settings/ideal
loading /usr/sbin/kernel-load /usr/share/kernel-power-settings/ideal
succesfully loaded.

then i put the command:

rm -f /etc/default/kernel-power
ln -s /usr/share/kernel-power-settings/ideal /etc/default/kernel-power

is that ok?

do i need any other commands to make the overclock permanant?

Queen Beecon Widget.

get your codes and post them to that widget app, so its only a tap away from overclocking (refer to my previous post)

hi all, does anyone noticed 'random rebooting' problem with v37?

i overclocked mine to 500 850hmz with ULV profile, i dont know why but im getting random reboots again.

i solved the probelm by using ULV with v34, but now the problem seems to be back again.

annoying...

Re: Overclock the N900?

Anyone having trouble with video recording and crashing?
Just flashed to PR1.2 (clean flash) and using v37.
ideal with min 250 max 600 works, but max 850 crash straight away
ulv with anything crashes

Unfortunately I didn't test video recording when I was on PR1.1.1 running ULV - everything I used was stable though.

Re: Overclock the N900?

hi all i am having definate problems also recording video have tried both kernels 28 and 37 both cause reboots.

Also seems that when i actually getting it recording the quality is greatly reduced when using the custome kernels.

lazyslave 2010-05-27 11:21

Re: Overclock the N900?

I previously used video recording with the custom kernel 28 with pr1.1 and everything was fine

the kernel-config codes for ideal (just like you do in xterm)

just tap "add CMD" and put a desired title and the command then save (tweak the appearance settings to your liking

yee haaaa

nice one...i made a title overclock in cmd and entered the code

/usr/sbin/kernel-config load ideal and then saved it.

works perfectly now.....many thanks for all your help

Hi, iīm currently running kernel 37@ideal 1GHZ - no Problems so far :)

How do i configure the avoid frequencies? I would like to use 250MHZ as lowest freq. The setting 500-1000MHZ drains my battery too fast.

By the way, what does smartreflex do?

try this

but of course substitute 34 (or 32) instead of 27

Re: Overclock the N900?

Ok new to OC'ing so I am not sure if this is working right. I verified from uname-r that I installed 2.6.28.10power-omap1 then did the following:

/usr/sbin/kernel-load /usr/share/kernel-power-settings/ideal
sudo /usr/sbin/kernel-config show

But this doesn't appear to do anything. Shouldn't this output the current frequency settings? I have kernel-power-settings and PR 1.2 installed.

well, to use ideal 250-1000, best way is to do

Code:

sudo gainroot
kernel-config load ideal
kernel-config limits 250 1000

and to make it your default

Code:

kernel-config save myconfig
kernel-config default myconfig

BTW It is my impression that "ideal" means the same settings like "xlv" only with different limits ... or am I wrong?

hi thanks, but just to know, if im to stay with v37,

do you know what profile and frequency is the most stabe?

i'm using v37, ideal, 250 850, and at the moment im getting random reboots...

Well, thatīs exactly what i did, but it seems that setting "limits" doesnīt touch avoid frequencies. I could use the "lv profile", but "ideal" works fine for me.

ulv and ideal have almost same voltage setting so change to lv.
Core voltage settings

EDIT:
One reason could be OC + power supply capacitors ageing. Ageing will decrease capacitance of capacitors and increase ripple and dips on power supplies. If voltage gets too low too long period, it will cause reset. Device might run well at low voltages at beginning, but when it gets older it will need more voltage to compensate ripple (voltage/current dips).

Also depends very much on OMAP quality. There are processors that are better that the other, so it depends very much how lucky you are.
