guys, please read the wikis carefully
http://wiki.maemo.org/Kernel_Power
http://wiki.maemo.org/Overclocking
those questions have been answered thousand times and the answers
collected in the wikis. If you have problems, go back to the defaults.
the instructions for the older kernel in extras are different from the one in -testing.

I did read both of those pages as well as Jakiman's guide. I was under the assumption that kernel-config show would display the kernel settings in xterminal, but for me nothing happens when I run that command.

and for me its unstable.... last night i set my alarm to 07 aclock and the phone had bootet over night so i didt get my alarm... and later on today it just bootet again from my pocket, is there anywhere i can get some debug infomation and post it here ?

wtf and now it bootet again with click X in xterm to get out of it

okay do as following!
hope you've installed rootsh!

go to xterminal! then enter root.
you'll be entered into root mode

now just enter kernel-config show

let me know what's the output!

hi, same problem here, and i seem to have found a temporal solution.

first, dont use 'ideal', try ULV, if it still reboots randomly, try 'LV'

second, try to set the lower frequency to 250, and the upper to 750, anything over 750 gives me reboots, its annoying i know, i guess we just have the worst of luck.

good luck

okay thx das_schlumpfie

im gonan try the ULV and put it up for 250 900 and see or else im gonna go to 750

yea please also let me know about the performance of 900mhz, if there are no reboots then i will be going there.

cheers, i will really appreciate it.:)

I do have rootsh installed. If I follow those steps I get kernel-config: not found.

Re: Overclock the N900?

hello,

I have a beginner question about overclocking...
what is the best kernel with the best settings at the moment?
is lowvoltage useful or not? reach every cpu 125MHz?
Until what MHz i should go?
pls say a few words about this.

thanks!

do you know what profile and frequency is the most stabe?

i'm using v37, ideal, 250 850, and at the moment im getting random reboots...

thanks

i have the same settings and have had no rebbots or problems so far.

are you using v37?

i guess the number 850 is unluck number for me, i have tried IDEAL and ULV, both doesnt work with 850 hmz, though im running 900hmz now, seems fine.

Btw, Conky confirms that I am running between 500-850 under Ideal. Kernel-config show just won't show me anything in xterm for some reason

why on ideal my idle is 500MHz? and the max is 750?

and whats the signigacant different of LV, ULV, Ideal?

hello my friend,

correct me if im wrong, the different profiles (LV, ULV, IDEAL) comsumes different voltages at different speeds of the cpu.

ideal comsumes the least, LV the most.

however, the lower the voltages, the more likely you will get unstable system problems.

btw buddy, i know what it feels like to have to read pages of references....but do try and do some research, it only does you better =]

Re: Overclock the N900?

ok now i did my homework... ideal 125-850 is now running!
do you approve ideal or a other profile
whats your approve for the max speed?

Re: Overclock the N900?

i did ulv 250 900

Re: Overclock the N900?

now i installed the Titan Ideal Kernels (PR1.2) Freq 125-850MHz ... meanwhile no problems!
who use LV, ULV, XLV kernel?
what clock speeds you use and why?

I use the 125 because I want to save power in idle mode and the 850 because I do not trust them

cheers

i use ideal, default and xlv, 250/500mhz to 1000mhz, i dont use 125mhz, gives my device a lot of unresponsiveness.

i use it mostly for browsing and streaming, i used to play vgba too, and the speed between stock and 1GHz freqs is very noticable

don't use "sudo /usr/sbin/kernel-config show"

use /usr/sbin/kernel-config show or kernel-config show while in root!

I tried that and then also tried:

root
kernel-config show

root
/usr/sbin/kernel-config show

both of which give me the error kernel-config: not found

don't need to enter root everytime! once enter root! it's enought!

now I think your problem is that, you don't have this
"Enhanced Linux kernel for power users (settings)"

check for this in your app manager! enable the extras-testing repo.
install that package! Now try and tell me!

It shows in app manager, plus I was able to run kernel-load ideal to OC in the first place (Conky shows that it is running between 500 and 850) so I don't think the issue is with kernel power settings.

I don't understand! I mean if it's in the app manager it's obviously not installed! it's the settings package! some 164kb or something!

pls install it!

Sorry for the confusion, it is in my uninstall list so it is clearly installed.

Before you try

kernel-config show

type whoami and hit Enter

how does it look now? can I install power kernel modul again?
does it work with PR1.2??

I am root and I have power settings installed. Going to try to reboot and reinstall power settings. I did my PR 1.2 update OTA, maybe that's the culprit? I really would rather not have to reflash :o

Btw, this is the first time I have tried OC'ing I had the standard kernel before PR 1.2

I was trying to deinstall kernel before PRD1.2 with menu shortcut. It failed but i did OTA update and then updated kernel via app manager(there were new version)

after it i tryed :

apt-get install --reinstall kernel-power kernel-power-modules kernel-power-flasher

but no use.

The most significant slowdowns is when I'm entering to menu.
Most times I can't see animation or can see just few frames from it.

How deinstall shortcut works?

Can you have smooth interface on default settings?

Ok I reflashed a device, thean installed new kernel first from extras - works like a charm (but no fully funtional monitor mode).
I updated to one from extras testing (it seems that is the same as extras devel 37 version) and again my interface is laggy and battery drains faster than normal.

Funny thing is whean i have hi CPU usage(like running PSX emulator) interface works smooth.

update:
I did kernel downgrade to 2.6.28.10power34 which was stable for me in PRD1.1
Unfortunately I still have the issue.
I noticed that whean device is plugged in to usb it works smooth. Conky shows that cpu is at 500.

Does anyone else who is using default profile have issue?

Ok so I reinstalled kernel power settings and I can't find kernel-config anywhere. I can't find it in either usr/sbin or user/share (where the power settings folder was) I am using the version from extras - does this not include the kernel-config command?

Had my first reboot ever today, PR1.2 + v37@ideal, but could be a pr1.2 problem, who knows :) Ran ideal in pr1.1 aswell

But cant help thinking it could be those "long term side-effects" to overclocking starting to show up allready.

I used to have alot of random reboots before i oc'ed my phone with titans costum kernel. It came with the first PR 1.something update and went away with oc'ing. I'm on v37 and it runs smooth and no reboots or laggyness :)

Don't think it's a side effect from the oc'ing since it has been a problem for many ppl for a long time. I remember reading about the random reboots from short after the release and the first update should fix it and it did for the ppl who had the problem. For me that hadn't that problem before suddently did after the 'fix', but thats all history for me now :)

I hope it's just a one timer for you :)

Sorry guys but i have a quick question..

I used to have my N900 overclocked at 900Mhz via command and VI editor and later with the CPUFreqUI app before the 1.2 update, but now that i want to overclocked it again i am a little bit confused..

So witch versions of power kernel nad power stuffs i have to grap and install with the PR 1.2??I had read a lot of problems like random reboots so i don`t know if there is a safe and stable costum kernel to use..I ll use the CPUfreqUI or go manual again..

I flashed both my eMMC and system with the new files and installed kernel-power-settings (which sets up all necessary dependencies). After that and some playing with setup, I ended up with ideal kernel running 500-1100mHz ... and everything is fine ... I dont use that cpufrequi though ...
