well it looks like my long wait to attempt an OC isn't worth it. I crash within a few minutes of web browsing @ 850mhz. :(

Are you using lower voltages than the default ones? If yes, try to use default voltages.

just increase your voltages and it wont crash :) add maybe 2 to each frequency and try again :)

Re: Overclock the N900?

Has anyone seen this problem:
I had no problems using SmartReflex with the stock kernel (1.1, 1.1.1 and 1.2), but the minute I enable it with titan's kernel the N900 reboots.
Is this normal? Or do we just not know enough about SmartReflex and I should be happy I can enable it with the stock kernel should I choose to move back to it (it does save a lot of battery...)

jaemo 2010-06-07 20:19

Re: Overclock the N900?

@omri with pr1.1 smarreflex worked till 750 mhz stabil for weeks with different titan kernels. since pr 1.2 smartreflex crashed device when montor goes to sleep and rebooted. i asked here before if there is somebody has smartreflex working with titan kernel and pr 1.2- no response! so i think smartreflex doesnt work with pr 1.2 and titan kernel

My highest temp is 52°C for one minute @ 1GHz and ideal settings.
What's your highest temp?
cat /sys/class/power_supply/bq27200-0/temp

Re: Overclock the N900?

@jaemo: thanks. I did search but this thread is loooooong...
I hope someone figures this out as I currently get better battery life with stock 1.2 with SmartReflex than from titan with ideal (need to try starving, though not sure what I will get out of that)

I think searching won't tell you how to get SmartReflex to run. There is a link from the Overclocking Wiki especially about power saving.

Re: Overclock the N900?

i really stayed away from smartreflex since it gave me a re-flash at 3 times i activated it.

@mr. incredibe: my highest is 40°c @1.15GHz since it is a bit cool here. if the sun is up and weather is @22°c, my highest temp is 37 c even at stock.

Re: Overclock the N900?

made 43°c tonight and on 41°c .seems the temperature part of script not working but battery part is . before was opposite . about to edit config again so fingers crossed !! . will wait until batttery makes 25% to confirm batt. script though as cpu should downscale to 750. made less than 25 now no change so totally baffled again...

Re: Overclock the N900?

i've been doing this since the last 5 hours.

i read that setting ignore nice load to 1 conserves battery and setting the uptreshold and sampling rate to 75 and 150000 respectively improves responsiveness (but theoreticaly consumes more power) and these settings are present in ideal, xlv, ulv and starving.

so is it okay if i also made those changes in stock and save it?

Code:

kernel configuration file generated by /usr/sbin/kernel-config
MINFREQ=125
MAXFREQ=600
FREQS="0:30,90 250:38,180 500:48,360 550:54,400 600:60,430 700:60,430 750:60,430 805:60,430 850:60,500 900:60,500 950:60,500 1000:60,500 1100:72,520 1150:72,520 "
SMARTREFLEX_VDD1=0
SMARTREFLEX_VDD2=0
GOVERNOR=ondemand
IGNORE_NICE_LOAD=1
UP_THRESHOLD=75
SAMPLING_RATE=150000
POWERSAVE_BIAS=0

my deepest thanks

UPDATE: im trying it currently and yeah, it slightly improves responsiveness, I just need to be advised if these changes are safe running on the stock settings.....

Re: Overclock the N900?

well i reckon no harm can come of it , in fact its a good idea , i rarely run stock kernel but have a qbw just in csse, rreckon i will try it too. cheers gabby131

Re: Overclock the N900?

Everybody is talking here to put samplingrate lower.
This will cost more battery and i think is not needed.

I am trying this for the last week:
Sampling_rate on 700000
Up_threshold on 65
With an minimum off 500mhz.

Sampling_rate and up_threshold are bind together.
What i mean is Every 700ms there will be taken a look how much average CPU usage there is, if it exceeds 65 it will upscale.

Result is a longer battery live, CPU stays more @ 500 mhz or other lower frequencies.
On 500mhz you have already a little bit power is say, so the 700ms you will not notice.

With a 500mhz to whatever mhz I think this is overall better for the CPU also.

Still i can maybe finetune this, because i think 700ms is much but it feels very nice with these settings and overall my experience is better.
Or lower the threshold a little bit more, but i like it already @ this settings.

sorry for my english I think, but i tried.

Please comment because i think this works pretty damn well.

yes we are aware of that, i am concerned of improving responsiveness. :D

i notice it as per my usage, and OC settings are as well set up with lower sampling rate and uptreshold than stock

Hi guys i need a little help, im trying to use the alarmed app to set different freqs for different times of the day/night, im using the same command im using in my QB widgets "echo kernel-config load sleep | sudo gainroot" but its not working.

I would really appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks

No joy. Still not doing anything, ive pretty much got everything else the way i want it now, but it would be really cool if i could have it automaticaly switch between ideal and sleep. i guess ill just have to keep trying till i work it out. thanks for the reply though.

have you tried the normal echo code? like echo sleep > /usr/sbin/kernel-config

Re: Overclock the N900?

I have a quick quistion

if i go to xterminal
type:
sudo gainroot
(enter)
then;
kernel-config limits 500 1000

in conkey its says that it is 1000Mhz Runing!

is this the good way to go? my englisch is not that good and i don't understand everything in this tread!
btw; i don't care about anny battery uses!
is this the best way to change it? (and easiest)

ohyeah ,if also tried kernel-config load ideal, is it better to keep it that way?

Alarmed is such a cool app, ive set 3 OC profiles, sleep, work, and ideal, that switch automaticaly on a daily or weekly bascis.
Along with queen beecon this is one of the best things for overclocking :D

Re: Overclock the N900?

Update to my temperature script saga ! now nearly 3 days in and finally got it working , re-included 250mhz in my default (loads at boot symlink from k.power settings) config with more volts (250=30v 500=33v) but retained 500mhz minium freq in 'usr/local/bin/overclock' script and running extra decoders from maemo.org repo no extrs/testing or devel. not testing them further as got all file support now even after i restart n900 . also found that temperature °c and battery % scripts when together never both worked,only °c worked never battery % . As such i have removed battery % for now as i felt battery °c more critical than %...

I have come to the same conclusion but are using 350000 as rate instead. The problem i have is that if i go higher the phone get's unstable and unresponsive. Maybe cause i run on 250 minimum. 350000 is good though.

i have followed jakiman's overclocking:

http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...582#post595582

when i load the ideal frequencies(500 850), it work but after an hour or two, the frequencies are now 125 850. same thing when i set to 250 850. it always goes down to 125.

any ideas guys?

so meaning, even if it shows in "kernel-config show" that the frequencies are 125 850, the setting remains 250 850?

But is it really still 500 Mhz or is it 125? because conkey shows 500 Mhz!

yeah ,when i do that, it show's 125, but its seems that is less stable i read some where! so whats the real frequence? 500 or 125 and if its 125 whats the downside

Re: Overclock the N900?

@jbw and kulas:

this is a known bug in the phone app (not the kernel) yes you are arbsolute of that. if you have IDEAL @500/850mhz and make or received a call, your min freq goes down to 125mhz, but your IDEAl setting are still there and unchanged. (still scales 500/850mhz with avoid freqs 125 and 250).

jf you are using Ideal settings that is okay. if you are using ulv or xlv which the min freq is 250mhz, just enter:

/usr/sbin/kernel-config limits - 1000

this will only change your max freq.

/usr/sbin/kernel-config limits 500 1000

this will change both min and max freqs.

Thanks Gabby! thats great, if i'm right it says that is can go to 125 but the kernel keeps it above 500? nothing to worry about:D

yup! that is because, ideal settings is set 125, 250mhz to "Avoid Freqs" so no matter how low you min freq is, it will stay @500mhz min freq.

just re-activate ideal so your min freq will display 500mhz again
