Re: Overclock the N900?
Hi everyone, first post ever... :)
I started reading this thread from #1 (didn't realise how bloody long it was... I missed out a few (hundred) posts in the middle!) Interesting to see how it evolved from "any more than 10% overclock will fry your n900" to people happily staying at 900mhz and going up to 1200mhz. Many thanks to Jakiman, your guide gave me the confidence to try it and it worked like a charm. http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...&postcount=774 Any other noobs like me, just listen to the jakiman :) |
Re: Overclock the N900?
Hallo guys, contest deadline is approaching in about 12 hours so I need to give QBW, and the competition itself, as much visibility as I can to all bystanders or late-comers.
If you like Queen Beecon Widget please vote for it in current Maemo Coding Competition in this thread Ciao and thank you, No!No!No!Yes! |
Re: Overclock the N900?
i just installed an update (2.6.28-maemo38). and its fine :)
thanks! |
Re: Overclock the N900?
...v38 is fine for me too - thanks Titan.
|
Re: Overclock the N900?
Ahem... where does the kernel install put the vmlinuz image?
Background: I can't find it, but i need to point multiboot towards it or copy it to a place at /boot/multiboot to get it recognized. |

Re: Overclock the N900?
installing 2.6.28-maemo39 :D
sweet!! |
Re: Overclock the N900?
...v39 works fine for me; also Titan mentioned:
"v39 merely adds a kernel-power-bootimg package which could be useful for multiboot. users should just stick with v37" Source: http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...&postcount=109 Still - who wants to stick on v37 if there is a v39 :-) |
Re: jakiman's N900 Overclocking Guide
Hi Jakiman,
I will start with I am an absolute newbie in this N900 and kernel business. I updated and overclocked my N900 but now I have lost the information on the about page and it doesn't give the software version either. I was wondering if there is a way to go back to my regular software. Thanks, Parmjit Singh |
Re: Overclock the N900?
Don't mean to be an a**, but you REALLY should have read the docs before using a modded kernel. You still can, you know.
That being said, there's an uninstall link in the menu. Also, there are extensive instructions in the wiki about reflashing. Also, the version is no longer applicable, since that's Nokia's version number, and it's no longer Nokia's build. Good luck. |
Re: Overclock the N900?
Can't some MODERATOR or other good person find a way to put links to the Overclocking section of the Wiki and the Jakiman overclocking document up there instead of that useless poll? It would be a boon to everyone. I certainly have no idea how to do it.

Im using Titan's kernel. Overcloked to 500 1000 and very happy with it and theres no way im going back .
But have some question if anybody could help me with that. When its run on 500 1000 i notes today that after a while min. frequency going down to 125. Wonder why its happening. And another thing today for the first time my CPU was all the way up on 100% for about 20 minutes straight and i didn't use any application but there wasn't much of a overheating. intellisyncd was causing problems. So i reset limits again to 500 1000 so i guess after that everything went back to normal. |

Re: Overclock the N900?
Just an observation.
I find it odd that when I use the Power Kernel, no matter what template I use, ideal, xlv etc. Anything over 850mhz crashes and is unstable. When I load the zImage-930mhz-500dsp kernel, not a drama, stable and using it for over a week with not a glitch. Wonder what the differences are that is making one more stable than the other? mine is stable up to 1.15GHz (kernel-power) playing games via emulators and using the MM10! :) |
Re: Overclock the N900?
That is fair enough, understand and accept that. My first N900 was better than this one, more stable, faster etc.
The point I am getting at, if both a true 930mhz OC and 850mhz OC Power Kernel. 900mhz is 900mhz, so whats the differences between the two that makes one stable and the other not, the power? What ever the difference is obviously a plus. |
Re: Overclock the N900?

yeah, well mine was not stable @ 800mhz using the zimage kernel configuration. so i had to switch to kernel-power. EDIT: have you tried using avoid freqs in kernel-power? some devices got stable in performing the command and saving it as their personal config. |

eg: kernel-config load default kernel-config limits 250 850 (or to whatever you want) Lehto's kernel is stock pr1.2 kernel just overclocked. Titan's kernel is pr1.2 kernel with mods, extra modules + overclocking. |

Re: Overclock the N900?
UPDATE
- I have updated my overclocking guide with hopefully simpler to follow instructions. - Also replaced ideal to lv profile for my intro steps as ideal profile is less stable for many. - I've already overclocked Nitdroid (Android) to 1GHz and it's really easy. Will add it soon if I can. (this post by Jay-C says it all really for the cluey guys) |

Re: Overclock the N900?
i think im having trouble in OCing my phone i have titans kernel v 39 already installed, but somehow when i try to load or overclock it to ideal or whatsoever it just gives me this
this kernel version 2.6.28-omap1 is not supported advice anyone.. |
Re: Overclock the N900?
Same here I get this error
/home/user # kernel-config show This kernel version 2.6.28-omap1 is not supported Please make sure that kernel-power is installed and running. If you have just installed the kernel, you need to shutdown and boot to activate it. To reinstall the power user kernel run: 'apt-get install --reinstall kernel-power kernel-power-flasher' |
Re: Overclock the N900?
can noobs use this safely (queenbeecon)???
(btw i OC'd to 850)>>>(is that safe in EGYPT's Temprature btw?) |

b) Near Sakkara, in the sun? No. But then again if you would leave it in the sun the battery would probably pop anyway. Each device is different, each takes OC differently. There is no inherent "safe". Some will do OK, some will not. The more heat around, the less your chances of coming out OK in a year or two. Use your own judgment, because it's your pocket if it goes. IMO, stay lower than others, they may have as much as 25 degrees lower ambient than you. Try to keep voltage lower, as it will give you a better shot at it. Me, I have some small scripts that pop the speed up and down and if something hangs or cranks the CPU for a while, I immediately ctrl+shift+x and lower it to compensate for heat. If you're outside in 40+ degrees, stick to lower frequencies. The reason I don't use Queen whatshername or desktop shortcuts is that UI is sluggish exactly when you need to throttle down. So, terminal for me. |

uname -r if it tells you that you have 2.6.28-omap1 instead of v39 you'll have to reinstall the titan's kernel. Hope this help;) GOD bless YOU ALL!:D |
Re: Overclock the N900?
GUIDE UPDATE
- Added Nitdroid overclocking guide section! Let me know if I made any typos. (I did double check but still...) Also, I will add more notes later about it when I can. |
Re: Overclock the N900?
When i try to install the linux kernel for power users, i get this: clonflict with programpacks: kernel-modules-maemo and kernel-maemo.
Whats wrong? Im root. I did read through the wiki page, but didnt find any answers. EDIT: made it though x-term, succesfully overclocked to 850mhz. |
Re: Overclock the N900?
Titan kernel v40 available now @ extras-devel , hoping any issues are fixed from v39
