Re: Overclock the N900?

Ok thanks for the answer, it then looks like a hardware problem as have flashed it twice now and still getting re boots, from time to time, even when the phone is sitting on the table, doing nothing

Looks like it time to try out the warranty on it, luckily I have another N900 that is working just fine :)

Re: Overclock the N900?

Yep same errors here. I'm hoping to test this custom kernel package to see if the DD-WRT incompatibility still exists - that's the only problem keeping me from running overclocked.

Re: Overclock the N900?

yes, some strange thing going on.

I thought right clicking the link and use 'save link as' would work but that fails to.
Have to look at it

But I also put it on our ftp server:

ftp://mesa.nl/pub/n900/kernel/

I'd like to test your kernel.

How do I install:

kernel-power_2.6.28-maemo41_armel.deb
kernel-power_2.6.28-maemo41_debian.tgz
kernel-power-flasher_2.6.28-maemo41_armel.deb
kernel-power-modules_2.6.28-maemo41_armel.deb

Just download to my N900 and install with file manager/program manager?
Do I need all files? Are kernel-power-settings working?

So resetting the power settings is not possible or necessary while running the stock kernel. IOW, that's not the cause of the reboots. Maybe the reflash didn't go quite right, maybe you loaded the wrong firmware, maybe your phone has developed a hardware problem, or maybe some software is causing trouble. But trying to fix it by attempting to change power settings while running the stock kernel will get you nowhere.

For me the kernel power (settings) were not wiped after OTA firmware update, mine was still installed and all my custom profiles worked imediately after reinstall kernel-power kernel-power-flasher, also after pr1.3 both kernel power and settings showed as installed, hence the need to reinstall not install kernel-power (afaik the flasher component is only needed if you want to use multi boot)

Afaik, someone correct me if im wrong, kernel-power and settings are not wiped at all, the new PR1.3 kernel is just flashed as a replacement, leaving kernel-power installed but not in use.

see the kernel power wiki pages for more details

but basically copy the 3 .deb files to your n900

dplg -i kernel-power_2.6.28-maemo41_armel.deb kernel-power-modules_2.6.28-maemo41_armel.deb

followed by
dpkg -i kernel-power-flasher_2.6.28-maemo41_armel.deb

and reboot

the .tgz file is only needed on your build host if you want to compile the kernel itself..

Can I make a request to disable fbcon/framebuffer console on boot? I think it's very unstable and can cause crashes when enabled.

I just rebuild titans meamo40 kernel with te pr1.3 kernel updates. I did not explicitely add the framebuffer console and have not much time right now to lool into it. Thats why I included the patches so other people can jump onto it...

Now I'm running mirakels kernel-power v41. Stable so far but one problem:

I cannot record a video, the camera app is closing when I try to record a video. Same problem as with Titans power-kernel v40.

Video recording on Titans kernel-power v37 is working.

My N900 is running at 500-900 Mhz. I did some heavy duty tests at 900 Mhz - the N900 is stable at 100% CPU load on 900 Mhz for several minutes.

Have you tried upping the volts? That have been the reason before when people have had problem with video recording. The DSP and CPU uses the same volt... too low and it will not have enough power for DPS thus video stops working.

mirakels 2010-11-09 21:18

Re: Overclock the N900?

note also dsp frequency may be changed at higher cpu frequencies. See your config file.

Ihad massive probelms with camera at higher cpu frequecies so limited mine to 750 MHz. I installed syslog and found 'dspbridge' errors when camera did not work.

Yes, I tried to raise the voltages too but no success.

My current freqs are: 0:20,90 500:30,360 900:54,500
Avoiding all other frequencies.

USB hostmode patches are planned for one of the next releases.
First I need to find their latest patches and make sure they don't interfere with normal operation.

I believe that's incorrect information due to leftovers in the install database, stuff not overwritten by the OTA update. See below.

I'm pretty sure Titan's kernel-power is actually overwritten during the update, replaced by the stock kernel.

Try reducing DSP frequency, instead of upping voltage.

400 should work at voltage 54 (that is the default in Nokia's kernel) and 430 should also be safe.

Mr. Incredible 2010-11-09 22:00

Re: Overclock the N900?

Reducing DSP frequency did't do the job. I played around with the voltages a bit and got it working now with a higher voltage at 500 Mhz :)

FREQS= "0:20,90 500:32,360 900:54,500"

Thank you guys!

Power42 has 'preparation for usb host', thats to say it isn't in there? I'm on mohammeds modded v40 and haven't had any issues, so am in no rush to upgrade. A few have stated it broke the camera app but I'm skeptical of that being due to fcam not playing nice.

note also dsp frequency may be changed at higher cpu frequencies. See your config file.

Ihad massive probelms with camera at higher cpu frequecies so limited mine to 750 MHz. I installed syslog and found 'dspbridge' errors when camera did not work.

You could also just do a "dmesg" to find that error.. no need for sysklogd although it might come in handy in other cases. Good to see that you solved it. :)

Re: Overclock the N900?

Power42 kernel showed up in app manager updates for Extras-Testing. Updated from v37, everything seems to run fine at 1Ghz + lv profile, same as I was using with v37.

Nice!
