So restart the phone in stock.. then --reinstall multiboot-kernel-power..

2nd restart... all started well even with the new power kernel v44...
Fcam working too... yee haw..

Thanks to all who have worked hard in this project...

oh yeah.. i think the multiboot overides the U-boot.. so no more u-boot... unless you remove multiboot i suppose...

i got conky ;)
what i meant was to find out what failed (which app conflicts) right after loading settings
coz it restarts straight away so no chance to lookup in conky.
kind of log file?

Is the camera fixed in the 44 build? I am not using fcam. The stock Nokia camera-ui program always crashed on the 42 build for me.

Well... I take my thanks back.

Opening the camera shutter, camera-ui starts, immediately says "Operation Failed" and exits. No go.

Ouuch... :/ I had the same problem until installing v44, BUT I'm also using fcam.

3) Extract the kernel from the fiasco image with the flasher (In windows, flasher-3.5.exe -F name_of_file.fiasco -u)
4) Renamed the resulting zImage file to vmlinuz-2.6.28.10power42
5) Copy this file to /boot/multiboot
6) Copied /etc/multiboot.d/01-Maemo-kernel-power40 to 02-Maemo-kernel-power42
7) Edited the new file to point to the new kernel
8) Reboot.

done this with power44 and worked :) many thanks , had reboot loop with multiboot , flashed kernel only to recover maemo. then followed info above (edited download link to 44 from 42) and followed the info. now running power44 with multiboot :) camera ok too but not using fcamera...

Hm ... I sucessfully installed new kernel (v44), updated fcam-driver and everything works fine :)

However, I am missing "kernel-config", only thingie cmd return is "kernel-power-deinstall".

Am I missing something?

I got Nitdroid/multiboot installed. Upgraded to 42 this am, manually fixed the red box panic thing as well as fcam driver. Everything works. Then I upgraded to power44 via app manager. It booted,

1) tux boot 1st
2) rapidly sweeped to multiboot with 3 options, omap1, power44, nitdroid.

Yep- I just got this too. Did everything like it said to do but ended up like this. Will leave it on while I got to the shops and see if it is just taking ages to load something.

You can either wait for it to start loading a kernel or press within 3 seconds to get a command prompt.

Anyone else know how to get to multiboot from that command prompt or is this a definite reflash scenario?

Same for me. Although some people claim it works for them....

I have uninstalled all fcamera and fcam-drivers packages. Still doesn't work.

I am also using *stock* clocks and voltage settings.

can you implement the neopwn modules in this kernel?

Re: Overclock the N900?

upgraded from 42 to 44 and after both i'm getting the operation failed when i open the main camera.

Via app manager i uninstalled BlessN900 and then reinstalled. On reinstalled it gives notification it's re installing the fcam drivers.

Neverless after this i'm still getting operation failed on opening the main camera :mad

Re: Overclock the N900?

Yep. I also tried to install fcamera and the new fcam-drivers deb. fcamera fails to show me the camera output. Hitting "Quit" does nothing. I have to hard kill the app to close it. (power button, end current process)

Ok it's been left over an hour an not done anything. Run noloboot is what it does by default when it gets stuck at starting kernel I think, and the same happens when going to command prompt and typing it in. Will see if I can move some files around or something when plugged into the pc, but other than that it's a reflash I think.

Ohwell, cookies crumble and all that. the only thing I'll really miss is a few bookmarks I mad, which I can probably find again anyway:)

I could be wrong, but I think those are wanted in case someone plugs in a powered USB port replicator. While we don't have chipsets in the device for those, a port replicator may have them, and we'd need those drivers to talk to the device?

Thanks for all the work you've put into this, and for integrating most of the sub-project kernels into yours. This really brings those projects into a single happy family, which this community sorely needs at times. :)

The people that have had problems with the stock camera:

Uninstall all fcam and fcamera and any other camera app.

Then reboot.

My stock camera works again. I just hadn't rebooted after uninstalling them.

Re: Overclock the N900?

For those who want a stable kernel: please stick to version power42 from extras-testing.
testing means: supposed to be stable. please test and vote (see http://wiki.maemo.org/Help_testing_software ) on http://maemo.org/packages/package_in....6.28-maemo42/

version >= power43 from extras-devel are highly experimental and include USB hostmode patches and u-boot. Do not install them unless you exactly know what you're doing.
If it doesn't boot, crashes or shows other issues (no audio etc) please report your configuration (OC, multiboot/Nitdroid/Meego etc installed?)
to Matan http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p=869677&postcount=8
If your device got stuck in a reboot loop, flash the stock kernel with
Code:

flasher-3.5 -f --flash-only=kernel -R -F <firmware-image>
and to downgrade to power42
Code:

apt-get install  kernel-power-flasher=2.6.28-maemo42 kernel-power=2.6.28-maemo42 kernel-power-modules=2.6.28-maemo42
If you have fcamera and any version >= power40 installed, you also need the updated fcam-drivers.

Looks like exactly what i did but i get very different behaviour . .

As requested here my setup and what happened:

Updated to 42 last night, had to upgrade flasher etc to get around red bootscreen kernel package. All fine...

Had boot options (all working) for:
- Powerkernel42
- Stock Maemo pr1.3
- nitdroid via mmc

Upgraded just now to 44 via app manager (facepalm), rebooted, now stuck at 'Starting Kernel' in uboot, no multiboot and i dont think there are any commands that get me booted into anything.

Time for a proper reflash by the looks :(... i can just reflash the kernel so i hear?

Note: might be worth adding a note to the details that load in package manager that this will nuke multiboot . . . i should have checked this thread first tho tbh.

yeah found it and working on it now thanks anyway tho,

EDIT: anyone else considering a full reflash after getting this issue try this first, did this form Xp and flashing just the kernel took less than 10 mins, back to multiboot options for nitdroid, stock and kernel power, tho power obviously wont boot, going back to 42 for now.

just took a while to find the xp kernel only option: (global version)
flasher-3.5 -F RX-51_2009SE_20.2010.36-2_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin --flash-only=kernel -f -R

Re: Overclock the N900?

Just a heads up. The fcam drivers compiled against the 42 kernel suffer from the same haloing effect the previous ones did. The standard drivers from the official fcam garage project did not suffer from this issue.

Re: Overclock the N900?

Upgraded to power 44
Running smooth, camera working fine except Fcamera was holding CPU on 100% constantly without using it. By uninstalling it CPU was stabilize. Other than that everything fine.

No audio, happened to me only briefly. I reboot, its gone. I am now OC to 900 and listening to media player. Fcam did not work after power42, installed patch, it worked. I then upgraded to power44, Fcam still works.

Thanks for the great work, titan.

I can't even get to the reflashing mode. Trying the proper reflashing method for a dozen times. Still the "starting kernel ..." greetings.
I am aware of the risk of updating and I know reflashing is the last resort. But what do I do if reflashing doesn't even working at all?
I am not complaining. Just need the way back to normal. Once this is solved I will proceed very cautiously from now on... say wait long enough to see no serious issue reported by the brave.
Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

Everything is working (standard camera included).
