You wont gain anything from going to 1000mhz, it actually makes the phone less responsive unless your doing something really heavy. There is a 950mhz kernel if you must to try...

I just wanted to try ... :)

BTW, your opinion - what kernel do you consider best?

I wonder why no one official from nokia did not comment on the over clocking.... i was expecting to see some warnings from some one associated with nokia in the community...

Hello,
Here ' http://www.saunalahti.fi/crailt/ ' we can see a kernel like "zImage-850mhz-450dsp" .

What about performance and stability between zImage-900mhz VS zImage-850mhz-450dsp ?

Any ideas ?
(yes i know..just try my self...but more opinions..more solutions :) )

Regards.

You mean how they did it with the Pre?

Also, is it me, or can anyone else access their memory card? For some reason, I have no idea why, but my N900 is not showing my memory card on. I'm currently using the 800mhz kernel. The thing is, I'm no so sure this have to do with flashing the kernel though, because I just recently flashed my phone with the emmc and the latest firmware. Another issue I'm currently having is, for some odd reason my phone is displaying GMT -4 instead of GMT -5 when it's actually on GMT -5 which is the correct timezone.

hmm i have a question: which one of you that overclocked the N900 have smartreflex enabled? does anybody know if overclocking with SR could create more problems?

thanx in advance

Remember what they said about the N900 being release sometime September, but it end out being on sale on Mid November? Yeah, that's the fun stuff. :D

hi could someone make something like 900mhz 500dsp?? does higher DSP mean more battery usage... is it noticeable? thanks.. Im on 930mhz 500dsp.. want to keep it on 900 but with good iplayer

Re: Overclock the N900?

After a whole day at 800 Mhz, i tried to flash the 900 Mhz one, but the phone does not even power up. Charging was also dead, the orange led did not blink.
Fortunately, the update mode worked ok, and i was able to flash back the 800 Mhz.
I also tried 850 Mhz = restart during boot.
Now im on 825 Mhz :(
Well, better than nothing, but im little sad to see everyone has 900 Mhz without any problems.
// sorry for english :)

Re: Overclock the N900?

What would you reccomend as the best to use?

125 - 800mhz kernel.
zImage-800mhz

or

125 - 900mhz kernel.
zImage-900mhz

Telling people not to do something is like pushing them to do it. You know breaking rules and so. :)

Btw gonna flash my device tomorow with the 800mhz kernel but only question is how it will be with the 1.2 update when it arives one day? Will i have to reflash back to stock kernel for order to update or will i have to reflash a new overclock after the patch? Thx for answers.

no one actually knows, the pr 1.2 might update the kernel so might set back to stock or maybe nothing happens, have to wait and see

I've just flashed to the 930 500dsp kernel, my phone still can't recognize my memory card. Anyone else having issues with their memory card? My memory does not even show up on file manager.

900mhz no problem for now. Now phone have a good speed :)

Re: Overclock the N900?

Ok, update
smartreflex on -> max frequency 825 Mhz
smartreflex off -> now running at 900 Mhz

so turn off smartreflex if you want maximum power :)

What's the battery life of your device running it at 900Mhz? I couldn't imagine it would be very good (it's definitely not good running at the stock speed)

deadmalc 2010-04-04 19:50

Re: Overclock the N900?

Im impressed with the community for doing this, it would be nice to have some guidance from some of the community leaders about doing this.
or even better qgil - the n800 and 810 were increased in speed slightly with the diablo update.
something other than a blanket disclamer would be great.

Re: Overclock the N900?

Everyone who has used joikuspot on n900 knows it gets really warm, if not even hot. Howabout now when overclocked to 900MHz will it melt? I'm too scared to test :) Even more scared after looking at this posts number in this thread (666)

AndrewG 2010-04-04 19:52

Re: Overclock the N900?

Imma wait for PR1.2 or a GUI before I do this :3

Also, can someone running 900mhz try really high intensity programs? e.g. JOku, transmission downloading a movie or something.

I've tried two cards that had previously worked with my phone. And both cards are recognize by my computer and files are usable too.

I'm just going to reflash to see what's up. I mean, I also have another issue. Which has to do with the timezone. My actual timezone is GMT -5, from NYC. The phone got the NYC part right, but for some odd reason, the time zone is shown as GMT-4.

running 900mhz for 8 hours now, no problems here!
playing games, wifi, heavy use, no problem! battery icon shows half a battery, i am leaning towards more battery with 900mhz or it is just my imagination..

great work!!! :)

Re: Overclock the N900?

Is it possible to do this hack without flashing? Like installing some package? I dont want to flash it, because I'll lose some apps/settings and time, and If I want 600MHz stock kernel again, I'll have to flash it again. (And If 900Mhz does not work for me, or If I want to switch to 800MHz, I'll.. flash it again.)

In desktop GNU/Linuxes, It is possible and easy to use different versions of kernel. (I had xx.22 to xx.34 Linux kernels on my Ubuntu)

Re: Overclock the N900?

Ronaldo,
I've returnet to stock flash to see if it goes to 600 Mhz realy, but dont remember to see that information firmware :(

Another good battery tests would be, for exemple, playing an emulator 30 minutes, and see what battery graph shows with 0.5 zoom..and do the same with another kernel . (Or play music, or playing a video, or something else.. )

Regards

You are not flashing the firmware, just the kernel. I can tell you first hand, no apps or settings are lost.

Megaltariak 2010-04-04 20:08

Re: Overclock the N900?

You will not lose any data by flashing a kernel, and it take less than one second (true) :)
