Honestly youtube for me have been smooth as it can already before this 900mhz clockspeed.
Just remember to put memory cache to automatic from default 5mb, empty browser memory and time to time restart N900 and it's very smooth.
Thought many flash sites that didn't work before work now.

What kernel would you recommend? 900, 950/530 ... or which one?

With Firefox from ovi store (fennec): 13202.8ms @950Mhz CPU/500 Mhz DSP

I run at 900Mhz for 26 hrs and during that period, performed a myriad of tests .. all seemed fine.

I however had 1 shutdown at the end of the 26th hour. After restarting, everything was normal..... not sure if the shutdown was temperature related (room temp was 34 degrees at the time).

I have now dropped to 800Mhz. It's still very zippy and I'm ok at that speed (not that much difference in general use).

Im running 950/530 right now and was interested if there is a considerable increase of performance when compared to 900 ...

Second question, how could I test stability? Like what am I supposed to run (lets say some heavy overnight running app) to test it?

The MicroB Firefox engine will be updated in PR 1.2. if I remember correctly, it will be updated from June09 (what we have now) to December 09 (what the Firefox mobile version has)

well.... you beat me by 35ms... (13237.4ms)

I'm at 800Mhz and you at 950Mhz

150Mhz faster but only 35ms gain ... Hmm... interesting !

From this morning, nothing out of ordinary. Yes I got 550mhz DSP paired with it. After extensive testing past 1ghz I find that 900mhz is absolutely the maximum one should run and I will myself revert back to the 900mhz, stock DSP kernel as it seemed to respond much better in normal use. This 1000mhz+ clock has introduced a small lag to things. Its not even that noticeably faster from 900mhz kernel that it would make any difference at all.

Try playing a high res video in the background while browsing a heavy website ..anything similar should be a good stress test.

What I find disturbing is that my device doesnt really even warm all that differently. Maybe its just the cold finnish climate?

Exactly why I can't go as high as you do :D

Re: Overclock the N900?

Maybe I should go to local machinists place and ask him to make me a copper heatsink for the thing. This 1050mhz seems to be last one that boots... will see now what happens.

EDIT: No crashes yet... But I think I can see the backlight dimming when CPU usage hits 100%... or maybe Im seeing things because I want to see them.

So 1050 still boots but over that, nothing?
You need to take it outside, try again. Cool down that chip some and see what happens.
Foreca says it's around 0 here (vaasa, don't know where you are), so that should give it some advantage.

Great thread! Many thanks Lehto et al!

Just flashed to 900 MHz kernel, was trying BBC iPlayer in full screen and it rebooted itself!

Hoping that was one off. I've repeated and so far so good. I'll reflash to 800 Mhz if I experience any further issues.

Playing GTA now with it... No more heat than with 1030mhz.

EDIT : 3-4 minutes = restart.

Lehto, is it possible for you to release 1ghz with stock DSP?
Would love to try the SnapDragon snapping speed of 1Ghz. =)

Re: Overclock the N900?

13046.8ms @ 900 MHz (using firefox from ovi)

-- edit --
hmm, I run the exact same test again and got

12843.4ms @ 900 MHz

That's better, but I don't believe it's right. I didn't restart the browser between the tests if that may have had an impact somehow?

-- edit 2--
third time
12755.6ms @ 900 MHz

http://www2.webkit.org/perf/sunspide...sunspider.html

I know it's a webkit benchmark, but it should be a pretty good measure when comparing different clock speeds.

If you run the benchmark, make sure to note your score (should be the Total up top) and any overclocks you've done.

For me: 37233.6ms @ 600mhz (stock)

got total 25499.2ms @ 900mhz (using microb)
could someone running 800mhz post results?

Re: Overclock the N900?

And what about turn that existing 930 Mhz with non stock DSP to a 900 Mhz with non stock DSP too (500 DSP) ?

Sorry for one new request but, i really love the job that is being done by people like Lehto.

Can update that on http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...&postcount=309 .

Thanks a lot !!

Re: Overclock the N900?

has any one flashed the stock kernel yet?

ceroberts75 2010-04-04 22:11

Re: Overclock the N900?

ok. had it running on 900mhz for 11.5 hours.

was off the charger since 830am and battery died at 3pm. so 7.5 hours on 3g the whole time, listened to one cd, talked about 65 minutes, email was updating 6 email addresses every 15 minutes, took notes at church, browsed the internet and responded to posts on a couple blogs, bluetooth running almost the whole time too.

did not crash at all.

overall, battery is good. i usually only get 4-6 hours on the batteries.
