Re: Overclock the N900?
Wow. Thread grew so much while I was asleep. lol
Just to report: - I have been running mine at 900Mhz since 24 hours ago. - Then have up the ante to 1Ghz since about 18 hours ago. - 1000/480 to be exact. (cpu/dsp) I've charged the phone till 90% full, since then: - I've played SrNokSnes for about 20mins. - I've played Angry Birds for about 15mins. - I've watched about 1 hour of youtube videos straight. - I've watched about 30mins of xvid avi file. - I've browsed the web for about 2 hours over wifi. - I've had it left connected to wifi and I slept for 7 hours. (idle) - I've done a cold reboot about 4 times. (to time the reboots etc) Now I have 15% battery left. Not bad imo. =P |

Suitable USB device not found, waiting I want to flash right on the device because i have Win7 64 bit witch is no the best working with the flasher. and in ubuntu i don't find where to type the line... Must the N900 be connected via USB while flashing directly on device? would be very strange... |
Re: Overclock the N900?
@Hawaii
I saw that link but it does not have the 900MHz kernels. No need to be mean. IF YOU DON'T WANT TO HELP THEN DON'T! |

apt-get install --reinstall kernel kernel-flasher reboot Edit: add mp-fremantle-generic-pr to that package list to restore version information too |

@hqh
yes, it runs with the original kernel. but productinfo ist not shown to... |
Re: Overclock the N900?
@moerderameise the flasher on n900 is the same flasher that runs under windows. it will never finde the usb device, becouse it is it self :)

Re: Overclock the N900?
ok so when itself, how to flash directly on device? saw someone doing it, so i thought why not.
or how to flash in ubuntu? installed the 3.5 flasher but can't find him anywhere :D |
Re: Overclock the N900?
I have the same problem.
I have this message (Suitable USB device not found, waiting) if i run flasher on Seven 64, Xp Mode or directly from my n900. On windows I tried flasher-3.5 -k kernel -f -R flasher-3.5.exe -k kernel -f -R And on n900 flasher -k kernel -f -R Always the same message ^^ EDIT : Finally, work fine in XP mode. the driver was corrupted. Thx for all ^^ |
Re: Overclock the N900?
Hey all!
Downloading the kernels is as easy as a few clicks away!!! Go to http://www.farahfa.com/n900-custom-kernels/ to download the custom kernels!!! Enjoy everyone! Thanks to lehto for helping me out! Also whenever there's a new update to those kernels they will be uploaded (by lehto) onto the same place. Go ahead and check them out! |
Re: Overclock the N900?
Here is zip file for:

Re: Overclock the N900?
To save everyone who is trying to flash a image with /usr/bin/flasher on their device from banging their head against a wall, can someone who has the SDK or still has PR1.0 on their device upload /sbin/fiasco-flasher somewhere? That way people can use the supplied kernel images to flash directly on their N900s.

Re: Overclock the N900?
On Device Flashing.
Download one of the kernels below and place it on root of the mass memory, otherwise known as MyDocs. 700mhz 750mhz 800mhz 825mhz 900mhz Run X Term and become root, then type fiasco-image-update /home/user/MyDocs/zImagexxx.fiasco Replace the xxx with correct mhz number, e.g. if your flashing the 800mhz you need to type fiasco-image-update /home/user/MyDocs/zImage800.fiasco Remember X Term is case sensitive. Once done please reboot. ;) This worked for me running PR1.1 If you want to return to the stock kernel then open X Terminal and become root, then use the following command apt-get --reinstall install kernel kernel-flasher and reboot. |

For those who are still new, check my signature for the Overclocking Guide.
It'll give you some ideas about what it's about and hopefully answer most of your initial questions. |
Re: Overclock the N900?
any one willing to try and restore original kernel via apt-get to see if it restores information?
i'm currently tweaking and messing easy debian How to revert back to non-overclocked factory stock kernel state: 1. Launch xterminal 2. sudo gainroot (assuming you have rootsh installed) 3. apt-get install --reinstall kernel kernel-flasher 4. reboot |

@zvogt
@Megaltariak Thanks to you guys, now I'm relieved :) I'll just wait for a week-to see if any device explodes or something bad happens lol and then I will flash kernel =) |

I tested and it worked fine. Unfortunately, It does not restore the Missing info at "About Product" under [System] [Settings] . i.e it still shows the following.... Nokia N900 <unknown> version: <unknown> Is there a way of restoring this info without a full reflash? |

Re: Overclock the N900?
I have included all the files that I saw on this thread on my page... This way it's centralized and also this way whoever wants to do this (that's not from talk.maemo.org) will be warned of it's dangers.. And the tutorials are on there.. Just click on HOWTO.txt or Flash_on_device.txt
So this should cut down on all the "how to" posts if they go to this page: http://www.farahfa.com/n900-custom-kernels/ Link is also on my signature, just in case anyone needs it.. |
Re: Overclock the N900?
I am on the 800mhz kernel at the moment and it is very good :)
However i am getting an urge to flash to the 900mhz kernel, but can someone tell me if it is worth it? Is there that much of a noticeable boost between 800mhz and 900mhz? |
Re: Overclock the N900?
Just overclocked to 800 MHz and it is ok. It is noticeably faster. Conky shows me that idle goes down to 125 MHz so maybe using it at the higher clock speed will not drain the battery too much.

I don't know if this matters, but cpuinfo reports the same specs for the chip in the n900 as the 3530 in the beagleboard, which is used in the Touchbook as well:
http://www.metoolabs.com/index.php?v...1844=fdtnphqgi The relevent part: root@beagleboard:~# more /proc/cpuinfo Processor****** : ARMv7 Processor rev 3 (v7l) BogoMIPS******* : 496.77 Features******* : swp half thumb fastmult vfp edsp CPU implementer : 0x41 CPU architecture: 7 CPU variant**** : 0x1 CPU part******* : 0xc08 CPU revision*** : 3 So there might be some headroom in the chip afterall, assuming the cooling is as good as the Touchbook. |
