Re: Palm Pre gets SDL! native gaming

hi, i am looking into a way to get NOVA to run through a symlink.
i also found a new thing while poking around, if you open appinfo.json in notepad you can change the location of the executable! i trying it and it does work, however a symlink between my MyDocs nova files dir and com.gameloft.nova and all i get is a blank screen.

i hope some1 knows a way

ey guys, i have installed asphalt5 1.0.3 and it runs but when i tap the race button it crashes, does anyone know this problem if so how ti fix it? thx in advance :)

Re: Palm Pre gets SDL! native gaming

so i've noticed that if i run the Asphalt 1.0.3 with the link on the desktop, it will shutdown as soon as i run a level... so, i went to the xterm, and ran the game without rooting, and i got the same results. Thing is, if i root, the game will run fine, but if i dont, it will shut down...

is there a way to make a link with root access or something? (i dont wanna go out looking for the version 1.1.4)

edit: when i run it on XTerm with no root acces, it gives me the "SEgmentation Fault" error... with root access works just fine.

i have the same problem, it seems that it need root access to work fine (if you run it on xterm with root access, it will work with no problems at all)... so i guess the solution is to create a link on desktop that runs with root access... but i dont really know how to do that.

i followed the instructions on the link, and it lemme see the level, bu as soon as i touch the screen, the game shuts down again ... this is really sad, since, that game is such a beauty.

EDIT: in case you followed the steps 1-9, and the game doesnt work, just do this:
preenv
cd /home/user/
chmod -R 0777 (game directory)

i did that a couple mins ago, and the game now works from the link on desktop.

run it with root access it is fine. i had the same problem, the game crashes becuase it cannot save a game file. do this-
symlink the asphalt 5 properly, then go to x term to do this:

sudo gainroot
cd (game folder)
chown -R user:users Asphalt5

that changes the permission of the folder and enables it to save games.

Re: Palm Pre gets SDL! native gaming

I made a set of scripts:

http://cs.ozerki.net/zap/pub/pre-hel...ckager.tar.bz2

which can be used to convert WebOS .ipk files to N900 .deb files.
The scripts are designed to run in Scratchbox. There's a short doc inside the archive.

The script has been successfully used to build .deb files for following working games (where 'working' means more or less playable):

com-ea-app-battleship-pre-en_1.0.60_armel.deb
com-ea-app-monopoly_20.0.35_armel.deb
com-ea-app-nfsuc_20.0.28_armel.deb
com-ea-app-sims_20.0.22_armel.deb
com-ea-app-tetristouch_1.3.8_armel.deb
com-gameloft-app-asphalt5_1.1.4_armel.deb
com-gameloft-app-assassins_1.0.6_armel.deb
com-gameloft-app-brainchallenge_1.1.1_armel.deb
com-gameloft-app-brothersinarms_1.0.9_armel.deb
com-gameloft-app-castleofmagic_1.0.3_armel.deb
com-gameloft-app-driver_1.1.7_armel.deb
com-gameloft-app-earthwormjim_1.0.3_armel.deb
com-gameloft-app-hawx_1.1.5_armel.deb
com-gameloft-app-heroofsparta_1.0.4_armel.deb
com-gameloft-app-nfl2010_1.0.0_armel.deb
com-gameloft-app-nova_1.0.9_armel.deb
com-gameloft-app-oregontrail_1.0.7_armel.deb
com-gameloft-app-shrekkarting_1.1.1_armel.deb
com-jakyl-gepro_1.0.0_armel.deb
com-laminar-research-app-xplane-default_9.5.0_armel.deb
net-hexage-buka_2.22.327_armel.deb
net-hexage-radiant_2.11.383_armel.deb

The resulting .deb file doesn't require anything except preenv (and sometimes auxiliary libs like libavcodec52, libsdl-net etc, the usual stuff, dependencies are declared in the .deb file). It contains a .desktop file and icons, e.g. it's a complete end-user installable .deb file, without any tricks and/or manual work required. The only problem is that the icon appears as a blue square until reboot (or untill 'killall hildon-desktop'), but this is a well-known Maemo bug.

The scripts are designed to run within Maemo SDK. I run it inside a virtual machine; although my host is also Linux, but in fact the host OS doesn't matter.

Re: Palm Pre gets SDL! native gaming

Hi @all,

i have 100% CPU utilization in the game Need For Speed Undercover. The game sounds stuttering and game graphics has low-rate fps. When I overclock my N900 to 950Mhz, the issues don't go away (and a reboot doesn't help)!

With htop utility, I see two "./nfsuc" processes, both have identical CPU utilization (in total there are five "./nfsuc" processes).

Now, if i kill one of the "/usr/bin/pulseaudio --system --high-priority" processes with "kill -9"... in this case, you have no game sound, but CPU utilization is go to normal (total "./nfsuc" processes are four), and the game graphic fps performance is also better!

My question: Has anyone the same problem?! I updated my N900 with Nokia Software Updater (NSU).

Thx.

Hey, I tried extracting the nfsuc ipk file with dpkg -X in x term and my phone froze up and i rebooted and now there's a usr file in MyDocs that won't delete saying it's read only, I did chmod -R 777 to the res_nfsuc folder but the broken/damaged files inside won't comply and I can't get them off, I made a thread

I am able to get some of the games working, but where I lack knowledge is the following;

at chmod +rwx xxx, where does this xxx come from? for nfsuc I followed the youtube video and got it working, and also monopoly I "guessed it". But example for sims and nova, I just get "no such file or directory"

Help?

Thanks

chmod +x executable-file-here

chmod is the command
+x gives executable permission (-x removes, +rwx gives read, write, execute)
executable-file-here is the file you run (nfsuc, etc)

Really dumb question, how do you know for sure which is the executable file? for example one was nfsuc, monopoly was monopolyclassic if I remember correctly. From where does one get the executable-file name?

Thanks

With the command ls, you can view the files in the directory where you're in. For example:

Nokia-N900:/opt/preenv_games/radiant# ls
Radiant icon.png save0 save2
appinfo.json res save1

As you can see, there are 7 files in the directory. The game is probably the file named Radiant. thus, "chmod +x Radiant" is what you want.

Sometimes the executable is in a subfolder. For example:
Nokia-N900:/opt/preenv_games/tetristouch# ls
Game appinfo.json icon.png

You'll have to change the dir to Game and ls again:
Nokia-N900:/opt/preenv_games/tetristouch# cd Game
Nokia-N900:/opt/preenv_games/tetristouch/Game# ls
a.m4v e.m4v i.ogg save0.phf
a2 f.m4v icon.png save1.phf
b.m4v g.ogg j.ogg tetristouch
c.m4v gamelib.rlb k.ogg
d.m4v h.ogg license-ogg.txt
tetristouch is probably the executable, so now we can chmod +x tetristouch. Voila!

Use the tab key to autocomplete commands. In the last example you know Game is a folder because when you type
"cd G" [tab], it will autocomplete to "cd Game"
Also, "chmod +x t" will autocomplete to "chmod +x tetristouch"
If multiple files/dirs are possible when you press tab, it will display a list of possible completions of the file/directoryname.

[QUOTE=zerocool2k;857011]Did you "chmod a+x nova" ?
And did you "sudo gainroot" before doing that?

EDIT: OK, let's try again from the beginning, assume that you have nova in "/home/user/applications/com.gameloft.app.nova". Run the following:

[code]
sudo gainroot
cd /home/user/applications/com.gameloft.app.nova
preenv
chmod +rwx nova
./nova
desktopgen appinfo.json
exit

Please try this it will work

Make copies of the mp3 files and pics in Your MyDocs directory, or your favourite music folder. I don't think tracker watches the /home/user/ directory...well at least it doesn't on my device.

I*ve try without it, but no improvement :( the CPU has 100% utilization and I hear a *clack-clack-clack* sound ... it's very very quietly!
When I stop one of the pulseaudio processes, it's gone and the CPU utilization is 40-70%, now.

It seems this is a pulseaudio problem. Can anyone confirm? Please.

Can say I've had the same issue. Is it possibly the versions of any software you're using? Maybe an outdated OS, Preenv, or NFS is causing the issue, because you're the only person I've seen with this issue. Maybe trying deleting the installation of NFS you're currently using, deleting the current files you're using, and try starting from scratch to possibly isolate your issue.

Re: Palm Pre gets SDL! native gaming

I've read the Wiki for compatibility and some of them aren't descriptive or correct, so I was wondering if there was a recommended place for discussions on particular games and if not, where exactly should I make the thread? I'm thinking that if I were to simply put it under games, the wrong people would be looking at because the games on there are Maemo specific. Should I just ask questions here or should we begin some new threads on the specifics experiences people are having on certain games?

My Nokia N900 has currently PR1.3 firmware installed. I've updated from PR1.2 with NSU. The Preenv version ist 0.1.1, NFS version is com.ea.app.nfsuc_20.0.29 - with the old 20.0.28 I had the same issues. I've try uninstalling and deleting all of the NFS folders, but it doesn't help.

UPDATE:
I've solved it!!!:D

If i start the game via xterm with sudo gainroot and preenv, the CPU has 100% utilization:

BusyBox v1.10.2 (Debian 3:1.10.2.legal-1osso30+0m5) built-in shell (ash)
Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands.

~ $ sudo gainroot

/home/user # preenv

BusyBox v1.10.2 (Debian 3:1.10.2.legal-1osso30+0m5) built-in shell (ash)

/home/user # cd nfsuc/
/home/user/nfsuc # ./nfsuc

But with xterm run as user and preenv, the CPU utilization is normal:

Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands.
