Re: [Theme] Matrix

N900 would still boot fine without the intro video, at least for me.

The method using X to replace the startup video doesn't seems to work for me. I kept getting permission denied

Thx for the nice theme. :)

(also can the falling lines be desynced a little ? :P)

Great work! cheers! :-D

Well the falling letters is a static image(the one that is set as background for the theme), I just animated it. What do you mean by desynced?

Could you try cp instead of mv?
Let us know.

Don't forget:

sudo gainroot

You're not actually replacing the video, just changing the filename that is being called.

Desynced as in falling lines are not falling at the same speed as the one around them... That would mean cutting the image in vertical slice i guess with random speed !

Hah, that was it... forgot to input sudo gainroot...

It works now with "mv"

Oh, I see. Nice idea actually, will try that out and update.

I could add it to the debian package, i think, but i'm not sure everyone would want to change the startup video who wants the theme. I guess i could put in a prompt. Lacedaemon knows where to find me if he decides to put it in. :)

Is it possible to put in a prompt? If so, that's the perfect way to do it, otherwise we'll end up with 2 deb files. One for the main theme and one for the startup video. Is there also a way that if it gets uninstalled, that it resets the video?

Hi, thanks for the great job.
I still have some issues with the RSS widget.
I found out that the height of the buttons in the deb I downloaded yesterday is wrong, after resizing the to the height of 56px now the widget is shown correctly.
Can you please check and fix them for the other users of your theme?

Thanks again

Looks nice! Great job.
I wondering if i have to use the X Terminal at all, or if i just can take the red pill and install the .deb file?..
Noob at linux, but i want this theme and the startup video. ;)

Lacedaemon 2010-01-16 12:23

Re: [Theme] Matrix

Red pill is disabled on new firmware as far as I know.
Why not use xterm?

Thanks for reporting this bug. I have uploaded a new .deb version which fixes the rss buttons.

Re: [Theme] Matrix

I'm typing in exactly what the OP say's to do in Xterm for the startup video and everytime I do, I get a "No media found."

Not even gonna mess with SSH, as when you do a search it's not like a post just pops up saying "do this or do that."

You have to remember quite a few of us are Maemo noobs, and as such need to be spoken to in "Noob" language. Thanks again for this, just hope I can get it to work.

Did you place the files in the correct folder(Documents) ?

Update: Am I total Noob?? Yes, yes I am. The startup vid plays but only after it acts like it's showing the Nokia startup first, then does a little thing, then shows the vid.

On another note, is their an actual way of seeing "/usr/share/hildon-welcome/media/" on the phone via both being plugged into the computer and unplugged?

Re: [Theme] Matrix

I read the all thread but I didn't understood if this package is optimized or not.

I'll try it tomorrow, I'll install SSH first.

Great theme!

You mean the Nokia logo, then loader(dots), then boot video? that's normal.
About your second question, to see these folders directly from your phone open the browser and type: file:///
On the computer the other hand, you can view/edit them via SSH software(e.g winscp for windows/cyberduck for mac)
Stay away if you do not know what you are doing.

Great theme!

You don't need SSH to install it, you can do it by installing the .deb file.
It is optimized.

Re: [Theme] Matrix

I'll change the theme right away but I need shh for replace the boot video.

How about make a video with some sounds?
With sound I mind the digital typing sound...you know what I mean?

I'll look for a sample and post it

Re: [Theme] Matrix

@lacedaemon:

I have one idea:

in the video, when all the symbols/letters are falling down, why you don't make them fall a little longer and with some tricks let appear MAEMO with those symbols?

something like this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFS4zYWxzNA

(not the song of course)

I'm the same, never used Linux before the N900.

I could see that folder via X-terminal only.

You should be able to replace the video with any of your choice. I wonder if a .mp4 video will work ? You could strip out the music from the one you linked to, and shorten it if you want to.

It would get longer, which isn't that good I suppose.
Also I am not sure how to do that.
I can provide the .fla file if you want to work on it.

Re: [Theme] Matrix

Hello i have 1 question, i have 2 starting videos now, i had the matrix one and i wanted to go back to the original but i tried it and added another video folder, for example i made mv /home/user/Mydocs/.documents/welcome-hildon/media or something wrong like that i think and now have nokia hands on video 2 times at start, how can i delete one so i can fix that anbd have one??

nicorumiz 2010-01-18 00:48

Re: [Theme] Matrix

@Lacedaemon

I installed the theme and the video trough Terminal and everything worked out fine.

I have not Idea how to do that video but I can try, which program should I use in order to edit .fla on mac/debian/win machines...any idea?

Thanks for this beautiful theme/boot video!

joseilopezn 2010-01-18 00:51

Re: [Theme] Matrix

well i really need a little help here, i need to delete one of the 2 nokia hands on videos, what i have to do?

nicorumiz 2010-01-18 01:00

Re: [Theme] Matrix

you have the same video playing twice?

joseilopezn 2010-01-18 01:05

Re: [Theme] Matrix

yea, how can i fix that?

nicorumiz 2010-01-18 01:11

Re: [Theme] Matrix

If you do you probably have to step back on page 1 and reload the file default.conf (bottom of the first post - If you want to revert back to the default nokia boot video(Hands-v32-h264.avi) copy this default.conf)

also if you would like to check if the video is there do this on terminal

sudo
cd /usr/share/hildon-welcome/media
ls

after typing ls you should see the files inside that folder and you should have:

Hands-v32-h264.avi
matrix.avi

if is correct replacing that file should be enough, if you have the video "hands" twice you have to remove one.

joseilopezn 2010-01-18 01:13

Re: [Theme] Matrix

ok if i find 2 files somewhere for example in that folder how can i delete it?

nicorumiz 2010-01-18 01:16

Re: [Theme] Matrix

the command is rm.

I'm a noob too, I'm starting now with Linux so...

I think will be

rm Hands-v32-h264.avi

but I don't think is possible to have the same file twice (with the same name) in the same folder....

just restore the file default.conf for now.

joseilopezn 2010-01-18 01:19

Re: [Theme] Matrix

maybe i added the other hands on video in another folder but im not sure what folder was, how can i see a list of folders?

joseilopezn 2010-01-18 01:21

Re: [Theme] Matrix

ok look i have 3 avi's there, maemo 5 , hands on, and matrix, buit i think the problem was with default conf, in what folder are the vonf's after install? because maybe i have to delete one of those

joseilopezn 2010-01-18 01:22

Re: [Theme] Matrix

ok but it plays twice, well is nice, how i have maemo 5 + hands on in sequence
lolx xD

nicorumiz 2010-01-18 01:23

Re: [Theme] Matrix

You can put 100 copies of that video on your phone, it doesn't matter.

The file default.conf pick the one that have to play when your phone is switched on, as long as that one is all right you should be fine.

you can browse all the folders with cd

for Example:

cd /usr -> you are in the /usr folder

with

ls

you can see the files inside.

joseilopezn 2010-01-18 01:29

Re: [Theme] Matrix

but maybe i have something like 2 default.conf 's files, like default.conf, and default_1.conf. or cannt it be possible? i just need to check the folders that have the conf's files not the avi ones
