it actually frees space i'm back to 60mb i was about 50mb before as i'm careful everything i install is optified when its possible

Seems like there is between a 5 and 30mb gain :) - i got nearly 30 :) - yay to me!

Would love to know the ins and outs of how, but really, just happy that it has!

Ubuntu has this script called ppa-purge in repos and that might be a good reference if someone starts to build script for N900.
Ppa-purge downgrades all packages coming from PPA's (Personal Package Archive) to standard ubuntu packages (i.e. to more stable and tested version) so it's not exactly the thing benny was after but in a way it's similar.

Good idea - if brainstorm loads up i'll add that too! - but for now - it's indefinitley loading! - oh how they need to move it to a new server fast!

is it just me or since updating the FW the app manager seems to get stuck half way through checking for updates i have tried a reboot that doesnt seem to help

...added the extra-devel catalog again - indeed since then the checking is stuck half way through checking.

Give it time, the servers are heavily loaded right now. I saw the same thing pre-update.

Application Manager DOES eventually restore/show/update applications...but it took around 10 minutes (with NO DEVEL or EXTRAS)...so hang in there.....
