We could get red pill back if someone flash back to 42-11, make a copy of packages changed in 44-1

Diff them and should be able to see the code for red pill to reinsert

Just takes a bit of time

People with Summit (41-10) firmwares, pay attention, might be just me, but the update didn't go too well on my (admittedly hacked to death) loaner device. People with release firmwares, pay no attention to this :)

They could install something in a non-standard repos, or possibly the -devel repos (I'm not sure what checks, if any, are done there), but not in one of the official repositories (without hacking in anyway). Whether the N900 will install firmware updates from these repositories or not I don't know (firmware updates may even have to be signed).

Re: New firmware released!

I had some problems with the update. Two times I tried to install it from the App Manager, it downloaded it, then clicked continue to install, but then the device rebooted sw_rst. I was low on battery so I had the USB cable put in while installing.

When I tried without cable but then it said: not enough battery life to install update.

So then I just charged it for a while, disconnected the device and tried again. Third time it actually installed.

By 'still', do you mean they were before? Just standard AVI rips, or stuff you've encoded yourself?

Re: New firmware released!

Updated in Spain N900 bought last week by OTA with no problem.

As you say, mainly updates in App Manager that now have the Ovi Repo.

All the installers that come with the phone, Evernot, Amazon, AP News, Bounce, Documents To Go, Foreca have updaters too. Also Facebook, Pixelpipe and Qik applications has updates.

The App Manager seems to work really good and faster.

Used Video & Audio codec, bitrate, resolution and container? Movies what I have optimized for my N900 work flawlessly :|

Yes, because, as stated before, this updated is intended ONLY to pave the way for PR1.1.

THE UPDATE YOU'RE INSTALLING TODAY DOES NOT CONTAIN GENERAL FIXES.

People have got close in desktop Linux (there was a fairly serious incident at RedHat, for instance), but it's AFAIK no one has ever had malware signed off by a core repo., or managed to extract the signing key from a core repo. in order to let them sign their own updates.

In short, 'could': yes, practicly however, no.

This update is only to pave the ground for a bigger one later. There wont be things like this in it.

I have installed this on my Vodafone UK n900 and have noticed very little difference at all, not even any new app manager icons...

Still no MfE for 2003 :(

Anyone want to hazard a guess on a release date for the main update?

Well this update has no changes for MfE - so you shouldnt see any! - there is another post on here somewhere that lists the known changes :)

No guesses on dates yet, but this is a good start :)

Mine is Voda UK, definitley a bit quicker :)
App manager icons are definitley changed!

This,

Out of all the bugs with it, this one bug is the one that drives me nuts the most.

Notwithstanding, I friggin love this phone.

VNC viewer equals full power PC in your pocket anywhere.

Edit: finished pulling it off the air, and is installing now. US version in Germany.

Edit 2: Completed, and installed successfully. Haven't noticed anything yet, but phone was not laggy on reboot.

Doesn't seem any quicker or slower to me. I'm surprised people are reporting that. That's why I say it's the placebo effect :)

The front camera looks a bit better to me. Using the mirror app. Not much, just slightly better than last time I used it.

I'm a tool - I was expecting the icons to have changed on the submenu before downloads and noticed the new ones within downloads :D

I noticed there was an update to modest, but wasn't expecting it to cover this functionality anyhow given others' feedback on it.

Good start indeed, but I will be interested in when the main update is coming. It seems so far (in my perception) that it takes a long time to go from a release for testing to a release to the main repository.

I can understand Nokia being cautious on this front however, the expected update does seem rather large...

Cheers

No, you can backup onto the internal memory. It's very easy to do, just run the Backup app, you'll see.

Don't know what happens if you brick it and need to restore though :)

Copy the backup files to your desktop computer now and again. It's what I do.
