It's not the app itself that's filling up that space - its odd libraries and dependencies (including some stuff from Qt Grrrr) that's taking up space, and the likeliest culprits are any apps you installed from the development chain such as testing or devel.

got it down to 18MB.

Did you ever install anything using the X terminal? That's not much room if you have removed most of your apps. What's still left in the list if you go to the "uninstall" section of App Manager?

That was after removing almost all -testing apps. I unistalled and cleaned some more, got it to 26MB, enough for update.
I also figured there is 5MB dictionary on rootfs for Qstardict, but for now, I'm leaving it there.
