camkeyd problems after new firmware?

Just wondering if anyone with camkeyd installed (highly recommended) has seen problems with it since yesterday's firmware update.

Mine wasn't working at all and when I tried to uninstall and re-install it, the application manager froze up really bad.

A hard reboot got me back to normal, camkeyd function and all, but the Nokia boot screen was accompanied by a small message in the lower left hand corner that read something like:

"Installing updates, please be patient."

This is extra strange since I didn't even see this message when rebooted from yesterday's firmware update.

Either way, I guess I dodged a bullet since every thing's back to normal now. Did anyone else have camkeyd malfunctions?

nope, it's working fine for me, didn't have to tinker with it, and the update process was smooth.

mine works fine.

How did you install the update? OTA or NSU?

Re: camkeyd problems after new firmware?

I was OTA and didn't have any problems with the firmware update itself, it was just this morning when I noticed the camkeyd wasn't working.

I'm gonna just chalk this up to my N900 having a bad morning.

Thanks for the sanity check! ;)

working fine, but i prefer shortcutd, found it much more cool lol

I believe camkeyd is no longer going to be updated.

Shortcutd is being written by the same people, has the same camera key functionality, and also allows for using the proximity sensor (which I've disabled, since I just prefer the camera key).

Yes, camkeyd is no longer supported and the functionality is moved to shortctud. Soon to be out.

...update via NSU; reinstalled camkeyd - cool app improving efficiency extremly - works fine for me.
Difference between "shortcud" and "camkeyd"?

I think there's an issue with load applet - the one that also allows screenshots. Dunno why I have the feeling it was working before but now camkeyd simply takes over and you get a picture of the transition to the dashboard.

Was this happening before or is it just me?

That's right, you cannot use camkeyd if you wish to take screenshots using load-applet. An alternative is to use ctrl+shift+P for screenshot.

Interested also what the difference between "shortcud" and "camkeyd"?

Currently the main difference is that shortcutd also supports the proximity sensor to be used to access the dashboard and to launch the phone application.

Shortcutd will also get new features such as GUI for configuring button actions in future versions. Camkeyd will no longer be updated.

Re: camkeyd problems after new firmware?

Thanks for the info.

I tried "Shortcutd". I didn't like it. I don't like that proximity sensor feature at all. Everytime when you put finger over the sensor, phone vibrates. Yes, I know that pressing the camkey also it goes to desktop.

I truly hope that the useless vibration during finger over the sensor gets disabled in next release.

Re: camkeyd problems after new firmware?

@Blinde, it will be possible to disable proximity sensor through a GUI.
I see vibration as necessary feedback when using proximity sensor, otherwise it gets simply difficult.
I can see that for some using proximity sensor as a button may not be an option. On the other hand, I know some people who use this feature extensively. It is all about usage patterns.

You do get some excellent mashed-up screenshots of halfway between the desktop menu and your app. though :D

The conflict between camkeyd and the screenshot app is why I'm not currently using camkeyd (haven't tried shortcutd), though it's really useful for quickly minimizing the web browser, for instance.

However, Ctrl+Shift+P in portrait-mode takes pictures that are the wrong size, I believe (I'll check if there's a bug in for that.)

Thanks for the head's up! I've just replaced camkeyd with shortcutd and it's working great.

Only question: I can't find the interface to toggle between proximity sensor/camera key/both. Where can I configure shortcutd?

I`d second that.
I also prefer the "old" camkeyd.

Regards.

@slender,

Thank you very much for your polite advice!!!!!

I do not think we are here to express our bad feelings or attitude, but we are here to help each other.

Anyway thanks.

Looks like i should use smileys, but unoftunately there are people who get pissed from those, but...nah.

btw. I think that you have to reboot after editing config file. Not sure.

You may want to uninstall camkeyd first before installing shortcutd if you previously had it installed

I found the vibration so annoying that I had to turn the proximity sensor off. If the vibration cannot be separately controlled, I won't be able to make use of the proximity sensor feature.

You're right that there is a huge potential for puzzlement in making use of the proximity sensor, but I don't see that vibrating helps the situation. It takes what could be an entirely visual puzzle ("I see my finger move, and then the screen does something, but I don't see the link.") into a combined puzzle with touch involved. The vibration moved the locus of my attention away from the actual trigger, the intersection of my finger and the proximity sensor...
