Re: N900 on vodaphone issues*
On Vodafone here in the UK.
( Got phone thru CPW , Not vodafone ) Have unlimited Inet access, However even if i didnt, They wouldnt charge me for wifi. When the N900 connects to wifi it disconnects the gprs / 3g internet . I cant see how this would even get forwarded to vodafone on your usage either. They would need some kind of software / hook listening to the wifi interface and forwarding its data use out to vodafone? Luckily, The fone here has no custom stuff from them on here, so i know they are not snooping. Would be interesting to install iptables and see what the phone sends and receives. |
Re: N900 on vodaphone issues*
My organisation has a Vodafone business contract and I'm thinking of getting an N900 through that (so direct from Vodafone, not via CarphoneWarehouse or anyone else). Reading through this thread, I am unclear - are the Vodafone-supplied N900s definitely limited, in terms of repositories that can be accessed, and Skype, etc.?

Re: N900 on vodaphone issues*
just a question that came to my mind. Can I use skype througth a 3G connection? (with and/or without vodafone).

Re: N900 on vodaphone issues*
Vodafone N900 direct from vodafone business. No strings attached.
Have updated twice over wifi net. installed from extras-testing. no worries. There is nothing Vodafone about the device at all. |
Re: N900 on vodaphone issues*
vodafone UK have their own product code on the handset but its vanilla firmware (no branding , original nokia firmware). by setting their own the product means they could add something to future firmware but so far its clean.

Re: N900 on vodaphone issues*
So debranding Voda, leaves you with a generic AND unlocked handset?
Thx |

if OP got such a bill sounds like he roamed onto another network instead of using wifi. there is no branding in the current vodafone version firmware that i can find, even fAPN lets you add other apn's as expected. using wifi (ie a network to access internet) switches off gprs data network so does not count on your bill from vodafone. the repositories work just fine, all of them apart from the current batch of apps with unsatisfied dependencies which should not be allowed in my opinion. rgds |

So my N900 is now on Global firmware, which I assume is unlocked (nothing but Vodafone sims in this house, so I have no way of knowing) and because it's on the Global firmware, it's generic too. EDIT: http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/index.ph...ic=53991&st=20 Here's the thread I was looking at, look for posts by "MartinB_Vodafone" in particular. He says there that any firmware available on the Nokia website will not invalidate the warranty. |
Re: N900 on vodaphone issues*
Vodafone continues to give problems.
I might need to flash mine to global too. I still havent got the latest firmware update. Im using version 2.2009.51-1.205.1 And I've lost one of my GPRS connections in my sim so now I only have Wap (in my previous sim (which i misplaced), I had "GPRS" too). The problem I have here is connecting using Vodafone WAP means some sites (notably youtube) redirects me to m.youtube.com and nothing I do makes it go to the full youtube site. However when i use to connect using Vodafone GPRS i could use the full site. Dont ask how or what. I cant explain this behaviour. |
Re: N900 on vodaphone issues*
I have a vodafone phone. the only difference form this and a non branded one is the internet settings are setup (vodafone internet settings installed). eveything is the same.
vodafone told me i can flash the phone as long as the firmware is on the nokia's website. i made sure they put a note on my account that they said this. so am going to flash to the new firmware over the weekend and use the globe ver. |

Either go to Internet Connections in the Settings and change the Vodafone Wap settings to have these details: Access Point Name: Internet Username: web password: web No proxy Or download fAPN (cant remember if it's in Extras or Testing) and then add another GPRS connection using the above settings, then you'll have both WAP and the normal GPRS Internet one. I hope this helps :D |
Re: N900 on vodaphone issues*
Other than Vodafone UK's phone branding i personally cannot complain about them. Had Nokia's from them for years and in the latter 3 went down the non branded route by renewing the voda contract via Carphone Warehouse.
With that in mind i can see why people might want to debrand their 900. Saying that i've not seen a voda branded 900 so not aware what level has been applied. My std Nokia issue is tops. Some hiccups have been enountered & overcome but no complaints on the whole. |
Re: N900 on vodaphone issues*
I also got mine from CPW, no probs with anything!!!

mine is from a voda store and has no branding apart from the different FW 205 variant. (this is now gone and flashed to global) |
Re: N900 on vodaphone issues*
If you have never had problems with vodaphone then i can suggest your lucky !
Only last week they disconnected my phone and told me i didnt pay the bill, when its a direct debit, and when i went to the centre, they called them up and said i went over my limit, I told her straight in the face, bollocks did i and then they transfered to another department that said yes he has paid and yes were putting it back on. Some great internal management going on there eh ? Do the departments hate each other or something ? Did this particular one loose at their weekly internal LAN quake game or something ? Jesus its like the company is run by crazy hermits who hate each other. |
Re: N900 on vodaphone issues*
