wow! n900 feels much quicker and the browser feels super optimized now. love it! have not tried ovi maps and wont until this high end beast gets maps version 3.0.

one problem to report though:

only 1 event on my calendar is visible on the widget. cant get it to regardless of what I do. any suggestions?

Re: Maemo 5 PR1.1 released today (January 14)

uninstall apps you have from extras-devel and maybe testing.
also uninstalling games from ovi store made by offscreen freed up quite a few MB for me yesterday.

Fwiw, the update didn't change my notification light settings. My update was OTA; maybe it's different over USB.

Apparently it now only shows events for 2 weeks into the future, while before it showed further into the future.

Personally I think the 2 weeks is a strange arbitrary cut-off and should be configurable.

I think the calendar widget now only displays the next week. It used to show the next week and then random other entries (not necessarily the next ones), so I think it's slightly better like it is now.

I have a sneak suspicion that apt-get dist-upgrade may have been a mistake on my part. Been running for at least 1hr now and I am running dangerously close to running out of space - had 69 free when I started.

Looks like a flash may be in my future.

Re: Maemo 5 PR1.1 released today (January 14)

Finally getting my update OTA.

Worked my *** off, but I got my rootfs down to 60.01MB free and that did the trick.

FYI: When I had it down to 59.8MB free, it STILL wouldn't do the update OTA, so crossing that 60MB of free rootfs space is critical.

I'm still wondering why I can't update my phone with NSU

Tried everything, it still gives me an error that I use hubs instead of direct USB's...

My usb's arent even hubs!?

Yes. One of my N900s uses the default theme, and after upgrading I had similar image corruption on that on-screen button. I fixed it by switching to the Digital Nature theme and back.

some computers have internal hubs, I had an old computer that had a hub on the inside, I have no idea why..probably too lazy to make 2 seperate ports lol try putting it into a different port.

Mine updated fine OTA after I removed ioquake3. I had 69.5MB of space on root. Now for something odd, or irrelevant..

The hostname for the phone is still Nokia-N900-42-11, would have thought this would have been updated.

That's why it's not been released as official functionality - it's not completed.

It doesn't exist. There is no portrait mode virtual keyboard. Nokia has never stated publicly that they are making one for Maemo 5.

I have a brainstorm for a "SaveMe" button if you fancy voting on it - hopefully it will perform a similar function to clear rootfs space when urgently required - without the user having to be too technical :)

There are a few other ways to clear space - but realistically that should help most :)

yep, i'll vote for that - i'll have a look for it :)

Effectively meaning NO ONE HANDED SMS, pretty inexcusable. Oh dear - my little N900 might see ebay..

One or more bloggers had announced that MMS would be coming in a January 2010 firmware update; however, there never appeared to be an actual source behind that news.

Re: Maemo 5 PR1.1 released today (January 14)

MMS would have been nice, I'm sure it will come out in due time. The priority for this release was more than likely the 3G sim fixes which is pretty important. The extra bug fixes and improvements are most welcome too :)

I've had zero problems with my N900 so far, so I'm pretty happy its being well supported even when some issues aren't affecting everyone.

See fMMS, ctrl-shift-o for 2/3 of your questions. I'll take the improved battery life and the 1000s of other bug fixes, thank you.

You need to then close the keyboard & rotate the N900.

Laughingstok 2010-01-14 17:00

Re: Maemo 5 PR1.1 released today (January 14)

press and hold ctrl+shift+o?

That is, the very top left button Ctrl + the large white up arrow + the o (letter) buttons?

Then close the keyboard. And rotate the n900 90-degrees.

Nothing happens.

Found a trick. If for some reason it doesnt work after ctrl+shift+o, call your phone which will force it into portrait mode.

After I did that and went back to the browser and tried it, it worked
