Re: Phone Scrwed After Update!!!!
Can't you just flash the lastest firmware on it? I've flashed my device weekly for a couple months without issue.
|
Re: Phone Scrwed After Update!!!!
Man i did that too, 2 times. It just doesn't seem to work for some reason. I explained the Screen problem in my first post. When the screen locks and i dont unlock it for over 20 seconds and then try to unlock it, it wont show the sliding bar. My keyboard wont even light up, its as if its dead. I tried calling when it was in that state and it shows that the phone is turned off. I actually hold the power button and nothing. Until i take the battery out. So this is just a big issue here

Re: Phone Scrwed After Update!!!!
I meant with the flasher utility, over USB... anyway, hope this method works for you.

Re: Phone Scrwed After Update!!!!
where did ur problem started? just after open ur box? maybe any devel app or something u did b4 it goes wrong? tell us about it.
|
Re: Phone Scrwed After Update!!!!
well i did have open arena but i uninstalled it, and i had moodlight which is a flash app and i uninstalled that too. And pretty much left all the apps from ovi and maemo. And the rest i said in my first post of this topic. And my problem start as soon as my device restarted after the firmware.. I could just tell this was bad because my screen started bouncing.
|
Re: Phone Scrwed After Update!!!!
I used to have Open Arena, never uninstalled it. about moodlight never tried it.
My 1st upd was thru PC Suite, and this big last one was thru OTA. All smooth. I know u did many tries. Rest a lit bit, and then try again, maybe, u know, the frustration makes u down in same steps errors. Maybe u got the wrong flasher, wrong OS, or corrupted files (both flshr or bin), maybe u just assuming some steps that could make the difference. Just brainstorming okas. Maybe some software in ur pc is bothering the process, etc. etc. If u did everything, what can I say... .Good luck! |
Re: Phone Scrwed After Update!!!!
How do you update thru PC Suite?? Do you download NokiaSoftwareUpdater?? i did that and run it but it says the operating system is not supported. I have Win 7.
|
Re: Phone Scrwed After Update!!!!
I just downloaded:
Nokia PC Suite. version 7.1.40.1 Then started it and then selected "Update Phone Software" option. I just noticed here: Nokia Software Updater. v1.8.10en-us Then the process let u update it. |
Re: Phone Scrwed After Update!!!!
I have a similar problem, or even the same. My phone also goes dead in stand-by mode and doesn't respond until I take out the battery. Reflashed twice, but didn't help.
I posted more details in this thread: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?p=473602 |
Re: Phone Scrwed After Update!!!!
did you reflash eMMC too?
(just change the flasher -commands filename from fw image to emmc image after you've flashed the firmware first) |
Re: Phone Scrwed After Update!!!!
I'm starting to think that the firmware fixes made to fix the reboot issue may be behind this... Maybe some devices don't like the fixes at all?
Just to add some datapoints... did your device suffer from the reboot issue previously? My bet is that not... ;) |

The inability to update OTA is directly related to applications requiring dependcy to files which would be updated. This was rectified by uninstalling all things from the maemo dev repo. Barring that, had this individual used the official PC upgrade path provided by Nokia this still could have been avoided. 2d |

oh boy, seems like it didn't work for you since yesterday... too bad :(
|
Re: Phone Scrwed After Update!!!!
I unfortunately had the same problem.
Actually during the usb update there was also an error message on the PC telling me that the update didn't work and that I better do not use an USB hub to connect the mobile (I connected via a front panel usb port). I sent the phone to Nokia :(. |
Re: Phone Scrwed After Update!!!!
Ok, I never got the OTA update option, even after housecleaning as per the wiki page. Yes, I've tried apps from extra-testing and have had it enabled previously, but not before upgrading (extras-dev was also disabled).
Nokia software updater did not work on my XP 32bit PC as it could never find the phone. Opted for flasher and followed the wiki instructions (and titi974's) exactly. The flasher process worked exactly as described with no errors or warning messages. My N900 boots to the Nokia image, flashing 5 dots in screen center image, then two long yellow status lights, followed by a quick green status flash. That's it, it goes no further. It does however mount MyDocs to my PC and I can browse the memory card share. Also, I can restart it in USB mode to reflash it with no problem; have attempted to reload PR1.1 several times and then 2009.42.11 twice. With the 2009.42.11 image flashed, I'm still having the exact same startup issues. Quote:

Re: Phone Scrwed After Update!!!!
You don't have shell / SSH access, do you?
Maybe the logs at /var/log/syslog and /var/log/softupd.log could point in the right direction. And some reported enabling and disabling R&D mode could help. But this is definetly at your own risk ;) Well..since you flashed it several times I think you know what you're doing :) http://wiki.maemo.org/R&D_mode |
Re: Phone Scrwed After Update!!!!
please anyone help im getting evry folder on my n900 filemanger 2 times like images images, videos videos and stuff !! help me :S and its consuming memory too !! i cant delete i tried to but it even deleted my master files and although i have about 200 songs and videos which shows in my file manager media player shoes no fles
|
Re: Phone Scrwed After Update!!!!
I had that happening for the folders that have translated names (Images, Video Clips, etc) but it is purely cosmetic. At some point it went away. I suspect the same thing is going on with your N900. If you really are concerned, open up xterm and type
cd MyDocs ls -a It should show just one .sounds, one .videos one .images folder. and nothing sounding like a duplicate. It's not "consuming memory". It's just something cosmetic in File Manager. |

No shell/SSH access... :( Enabling and disabling R&D mode does not help, still same issue I reported a few posts ago. It's a bit frustrating as my N900 worked great before the firmware update. Also, another data point while R&D mode was enabled, when booting and text was overlaid onto the Nokia graphic screen, message "no initfs \o/" was displayed. I'd imagine that's not a good thing... Is there any way to reset the N900 back to a "OEM Factory state"? |
Re: Phone Scrwed After Update!!!!
Update: Happy Endings
Finally, I've got my phone to boot with PR1.1! :) For thread completion of the issue I had (and what I've seen others detail without solutions), my phone prior to the upgrade worked fine. I've installed .deb files and also from extras (e.g. *cough*bash*gcoreutils*etc*cough* - stuff that should be default stock on the N900 IMHO), so no whining from me that boo-hoo, the upgrade didn't work as documented in the wikis and elsewhere. My N900 post PR1.1 flashing would display the Nokia logo screen, then show the 5 horizontal dancing dots, then show two long yellow status lights followed by a quick green status light flash (must mean something, like PC bios bootup diagnostic beeps?). I flashed as per the flasher guide and per the firmware upgrade guide. I flashed with image 2009.42-11 and 2009.51-1 multiple times trying out several permutations of R&D mode and other flasher-3.5 options. Used both a WinXP 32bit PC and a Ubuntu v9.10 Live USB boot drive. No luck, still stuck. Errors/Issues with flasher wiki: Quote:

The HW revision can NOT be found on the back of the device under the battery! Flasher-3.5 already listed it as type "2101", so I used that while attempting the cold flash command. Should I change the wiki to reflect these issues? The solution to my issue was to follow the Flashing the eMMC in the N900 in the firmware update wiki. Read it carefully as ALL OF YOUR DATA WILL BE DELETED!!! Yes, EVERYTHING! According to the wiki, I should not have done this as I have a public release device. Is this the proper process to restore back to "factory settings"? Used flasher-3.5 to install the 2009.41-1 VANILLA image, then followed up with a flash of the 2009.51-1 PR1.1 image. Restart, then another restart. Now I finally could see the Nokia hands video, then the desktop screens! :D Restored 8GB worth of backups and life is good again. A couple of really nice things I've noticed with PR1.1 coming from a N810 user: 1. Wow, the backup tool in the N900 is leaps and bounds better than the one on the N810! It backed up much more than I thought it would and wound up double backing up files that I assumed it would not pick up. Very impressive! 2. The backup tool kept an accurate and more importantly a functional list of all applications I've installed. It worked perfectly reinstalling 50+ applications with no errors or issues. Only ones not installed were CLI application installed via dpkg which is exactly what I'd expect. 3. Old compiled for Diablo apps may actually work now on the N900! Notecase v1.9.8 (open source version) now works with PR1.1 loaded whereas with 2009.42-11, the load and save dialogs did not work. This is huge for me as I have an encrypted 500+ record DB that I've slowly been migrating to KeePassX, but now I can wait for the UI issues to be fixed in KeePassX. I hope this post can help anyone else who experiences the same upgrade issues I did. |
Re: Phone Scrwed After Update!!!!
well, i just did my eMMC thing and then updated my firmware right after and followed wiki to do everything. I already knew how to flash but followed the eMMC flasher. When it goes in standby mode it is not coming back on but i can see the white standby light... LAME
