Re: tomotko menu problem with Pr1.1

According to this thread , it would seems that there is a bug in Qt in this regard.

A bug report has been submitted, and hopefully, this issue will be resolved eventually.

If anyone knows a workaround for this, please mention it.

Thanks. Everyone vote for the bug :)

Re: tomotko menu problem with Pr1.1

I have released a new version of toMOTko :

tomotko-0.11.2-9fremantle2

I have finished hildonization and improved Preferences window. Also, I'm using qt-4.6 from now on. I'm not sure if this implies mandatory use of PR1.2 though.

The last things to do is to update the Help content to reflect the changes in the interface (and fix eventual bug fixes).

Feedback is welcome.

Edit: Oops! I have just seen that some dependencies are missing... So forget this release. I think that this issue will solve itself when PR1.2 is released. Until then... Do not upgrade or the application will probably break.

Re: tomotko menu problem with Pr1.1

Yes, the new packages can't be installed due to the dependencies. The Application Manager will not allow it. You can download the .deb and install with dpkg --force-depends but in this case it certainly wouldn't work since you use the new QT. I just hope the update comes soon....

BTW, are you developing this without actually having N900? If so, you are incredible :) Thanks!

@lukash:

Yes, unfortunately, I have no Nokia device at my disposals. That's why users' feedback is so appreciated. You are my eyes. The emulator is good but it's nothing like the real device.

yep, update cannot be installed yet. when are they coming out with PR 1.2?

I gave it some time, but the issue didn't resolve itself.. so I asked firstfan, the author of mscim, about it. This is his reply:

The SCIM Qt module implement has already been added to MSCIM svn, but it's not compilable yet. You can get the code here: http://code.google.com/p/scim-for-ma...im-qtimm-0.9.4

Unless someone wants to help him, all we can do is wait...

At last, PR1.2 is out! Anyone can confirm that toMOTko works on it, please?

Also, I would like to announce that I have moved the source code from Subversion to Git. It's hosted on GitHub here:

http://github.com/FBergeron/tomotko

I'm not familiar yet with Git but, in theory, it should be easier to contribute if anyone is interested.

Hi frederic

with pr1.2, all the menus are again acessible so the app is usable. however, there seem to be some layout problems,

Re: tomotko menu problem with Pr1.1

Thanks for reporting this issue. Indeed, there are some layout problems that were not visible in the emulator.

Another thing that is funny is the progress bar in the bottom of the third screenshots. I thought it was not visible on Maemo.

I think that you have tried the version that is in extras repository though. This is an older version.

The latest version is in extras-devel (http://maemo.org/packages/package_in...2-9fremantle2/) and should look a lot better.

Anyone can try and submit screenshots please?

Re: tomotko menu problem with Pr1.1

Hi,

Frederic, I somehow missed your post.. I'm still not using tomotko because I can't input the chinese characters now. And its not available in my desktop distro. Maybe I should look into it. Will see how time permits.

Regarding the messed up layout, there are some posts about it in the devel mailing list:
http://maemo.org/community/maemo-dev...oduced_issues/

And continuing here (the author didn't keep the thread intact):
http://maemo.org/community/maemo-dev...oduced_issues/

It looks like the same issue. I suggest to wait and see how it turns out (I'm subscribed so I can inform you if I don't forget)

Just tested the version from extras-devel. The layout is completely different from the screenshots (I'm not familiar with the application, you really did so many changes there Frederic?), but I see no layout issues whatsoever. Don't have the time to make screenshots now though, sorry.

Re: tomotko menu problem with Pr1.1

Yes, I have completely changed the layout because it was not working at all with PR1.1. Now with PR1.2, it seems that it works though... Still, I don't think it was a waste of time. I believe that the new layout is more appropriate for the N900 and makes the application easier to use.

Concerning the Input Method bug, I'm really sorry about that. I can't wait for someone to fix that. It makes the toMOTko application a lot less useful. I'm confident that it will be fixed eventually... but when?

Mostly it is, I guess. Though I definitely like the tabs in the options more than the buttons..

Yeah, exactly.. Thats what I asked firstfan too :) Got no reply though. I guess developers generally don't like the ETA kind of questions, though I tried to be gentle :D Anyway, we can either wait or help out... I wish days had more hours.

Re: tomotko menu problem with Pr1.1

Honestly, I also prefer the tabs. However, the buttons seem to be more "standard" on the N900. Fortunately, you should not use the Preferences very often when using the application. I have used toMOTko daily for years now and seldom invoke the Preferences dialog. I do it occasionnaly to select different revealing orders and that's it.

Re: tomotko menu problem with Pr1.1

Here are some screenshots from the version in devel:

http://seclab.tuwien.ac.at/people/pm...531-102550.png]

http://seclab.tuwien.ac.at/people/pm...531-102609.png

Seems to work nicely, although I have no glossaries on the phone atm to properly test it. In my opinion the new preferences are much better, there isn't enough room on the small screen for tabs. I think that if you display 800*400 pixels on your PC monitor it looks much bigger than it actually is on the device. The fonts you currently have for instance are more or less the minimum acceptable size for the display (and people with low eyesight would probably want them bigger).

Thanks for taking the time to port this to the platform even though you don't have a device. If you need me to run any experiments for you just let me know, I'm subscribed to this thread.

Anyone can tell me if the text in the Help window should use a larger font?

Hi Frederic.

The font in the help is smaller than most other fonts on the device, but still reasonably readable, and I can reliably click the links with my finger. Still, it probably wouldn't hurt to increase it a bit.

The other font that is unnecessarily small IMO is the one on the buttons in the main menu (the one you get by tapping at the top with "start quiz","search", etc options).

ciao

Re: tomotko menu problem with Pr1.1

In my opinion, the font in the help is somewhat small but fine with me (I prefer it that way, more text fits on the screen).

I agree the menu font is way too small. Maybe you could try leaving the default font size for this?

FBergeron 2010-06-09 15:33

Re: tomotko menu problem with Pr1.1

I have already enlarged the fonts this morning. I'm using the default size. I hope to release a new version in less than 2 weeks. I think it could be the last version before releasing it into extras so if you see anything to fix, it's a good time to tell me about it.

Re: tomotko menu problem with Pr1.1

I have released a new version of toMOTko in extras-devel. Some layouts have been improved. Fonts have been enlarged at some places. Online Help has been rewritten. Some small bugs have been fixed too.

Re: tomotko menu problem with Pr1.1

Someone could test these 2 little things with the latest version:

1) Do the Reset buttons work in the Fonts window of the Preferences dialog for the Labels and Fields fonts? The expected behavior is that the font should revert to the original value. In the emulator, the original value is Nokia Sans/Medium. It's probably the same value on the real device but I don't know.

2) Invoke the Search window, you don't need to search anything but pay attention to the text of the buttons on the right. Then go in the Preferences and change the language interface and click Ok to apply the change. The interface should be updated accordinigly. Then, perform another Search. On the emulator, the text of the buttons on the right View Glossary, Edit, Remove, and Close are not translated immediately. I have to move the mouse cursor over the buttons to make them update themselves. Is it the same behavior on the real device?

Thanks!

Re: tomotko menu problem with Pr1.1

Too bad nobody could anwer my requests. Anyway, I have released Tomotko 0.11.2-10fremantle0. I have also promoted the package for extras-testing. Hopefully, it's stable enough.

Re: tomotko menu problem with Pr1.1

Hi, I don't know if you still want the feedback but I've tested your two queries:

1) The Reset buttons works well for me and revert back to the original straight away. The original value is Nokia Sans in Medium for both fields.

2) It is the same behaviour as you describe. When I change language preferences the interface updates straight away. But then when I perform another Search. the text of the buttons on the right View Glossary, Edit, Remove, and Close are not translated immediately.

The Close button changes after a second or two but the others greyed out remain in English.

Good job on it though!

Re: tomotko menu problem with Pr1.1

The application keeps crashing for me when I try to import a glossary. After I click on Import Data, the sub-menu pops up for me to select the file but it stops responding at this point. The loading icon comes up like it's trying to load the names of my N900 directory but then it just stops:

FBergeron 2010-07-09 02:41

Re: tomotko menu problem with Pr1.1

Thanks for the feedback.

Good to know that the Reset button works as expected.

For the translations of the Search Dialog, I will try to find a solution to it later. It's not a very important issue but if I can fix it, that would be better.

The File Selection bug is rather strange. I think that Import Data feature works for some other users. It works fine for in the emulator.

Could you try launching the application from the command interpreter to see if any interesting error messages pop out? The executable should be named either toMOTko or tomotko.

Anyone else experiments a similar behavior?

Sash 2010-07-09 09:14

Re: tomotko menu problem with Pr1.1

I just tried running toMOTko from the terminal and I don't get any error messages but it still crashes at the Import Data stage.
