WOW This has made some extremely awesome progress...
Yeah could we get a link to try this out? I'll like to try something like braintrainer or something if it's possible

I'll gladly help test this desmume port when it gets to extras-devel or extras-testing.

A bunch of DS games dont take full advantage of the dual screens. So one is up there and is waisted space anyway. This method will give you the option to choose what you are viewing though.

I agree that this emulator would need some flexibility in the layout of the two screens, with different games having different preferred layouts. For example, New Super Mario Bros could have a large display of the top screen (where most of the action takes place), and a smaller display of the bottom screen (which mostly shows the status).

It's quite unusable right now but you're welcome to try it.

All I've done is set some paths, the rest of the code is untouched by me as I'm a .NET guy :D. If your face melts off after installing this it's your own fault.

Re: NDS emu request

I got it from here :)

libgl1

Why are there 2 Versions ? One seems to be a bit faster with big files.
The Max i got was about 13/14 fps. How to get 22 as shown in the pictures. Is this from the SDK ?

And could this be fixed please :

You cant reach the buttons in this one, but it doesn't really matter, because you can setup the keyboard with the other version :)

Keep on Rocking !!!

Code:

apt-get install libgl1
Might be easier.

One GUI is just GTK (desmume in a terminal), the other is Glade (desmume-glade). There's also desmume-cli from the command line.
There are few performance-related options for each that are only available through command line arguments, so try desmume --help in a terminal to see what you can tweak.

My screenshot is from my N900, Siggen's are mockups of what will hopefully be the future GUI. The only game I've seen get over 15fps so far is Yoshi's Island.

I'm messing with the Glade GUI right now to see what I can manage, but I'm learning most of this as I go along. :D

LOL i just tried the new zelda spirits tracks but i dont get much more then 1 FPS in the main menu hehehe. I saw that it was in the repository!

I installed it via the xterm and it gave an error. but still got the icons on my menu. they didn't work. after some time i got the message that there was an update of the desmume app. so i installed and it all works now!

Now i just have to wait for it to be uptimized! im very excited!

Do you know which repository the desmume update came from? I'm not seeing a desmume package on maemo.org/packages.

Re: NDS emu request

Please share the repo with us, so we are up to date too :)
I hope they find a way to make it quicker. When i was on the Homepage i thought it would never happen. (requires min 1Ghz cpu power). I took my old eeepc (600mhz) and installed the windows version. It was running smooth with ~20 - 35 fps. I hope this one will get so far too. This fps would be enough to make it playable.

Looks like the 3D Games are the ones that makes Gameplay so slow.

Here as screenshot of a game that worked quite well. Touch response is a little bit laggy.

Could you check the package details for the installed version?

Application Manager -> Uninstall -> desmume -> Details
or
Code:

dkpg -l | grep desmume

sygys 2010-01-25 14:20

Re: NDS emu request

I did but what info do you need and why? By the way how far is the development? is the opengl allready adressed?

Lord Awesome 2010-01-25 15:00

Re: NDS emu request

The version number from the details would help me work out how desmume updated without being in the repositories, but it's not important. As for development, there's been no progress because I'm not a C++ guy. Anyone taking on the project would be better off starting from scratch at this point because I've done nothing.

sygys 2010-01-25 17:56

Re: NDS emu request

so if i am correct you say that it cant be possible to update demume via the repositories... hm thats indeed strange!my version is 0.9.5-3

Lord Awesome 2010-01-25 18:09

Re: NDS emu request

Same as my deb. Must've been something else that was updated.

sygys 2010-01-25 18:43

Re: NDS emu request

or maybe it saw that it missed some content because my installation failed and got them via the repository

Re: NDS emu request

is there no one who can help out this project? It really would be a shame if this project dies out now we allready are able to get it working!

I would really like to see all games working on this!

Re: NDS emu request

what kind of programmer can modify this emulator for n900?
maybe i can find somebody to help.
but i have to know what kind of person i need to turn to.

Re: NDS emu request

Your best bet for speed is someone with OpenGL ES knowledge. As it is now, the CPU is trying to balance emulating two processors and all the rendering. I'd contact the developer first though as he'll know more in depth what really needs doing.

Re: NDS emu request

:C ...seems like another project has gone into the wind ;C ... looks like the pcsx emulators gonna be next :S ...my hopes are getting real low pertaining towards emulators on n900, real real low, where are the developers???

Re: NDS emu request

i think all developers went to MeeGo. something i am afraid of for some time now.

can anyone confirm that desmume is removed from the repositories? i cant download it anymore

Scottlfa 2010-03-09 06:51

Re: NDS emu request

Many of the developers have been working on MeeGo for months now, they have in a few posts here and there pointed out that the coding for MeeGo will allow for if not native, at least easy porting to Maemo 5.

Or you can convert the device to MeeGo when the public option becomes available. Some emulators have classically had issue's being brought to the mobile platforms BTW [PDA's, Phones etc ...]. DS, PS1 and PSP emulators being the big ones. They require a lot from the host systems to emulate.

I remember fiddling with pcsx on my pocket pc [iMate JasJar] and being more or less underwhelmed. Love the NES, SNES and GBA emulators though good work on them.

Could somebody please explain to me how to compile desmume or, any app in the maemo5 sdk?
