i found that 2g/3g app and installed it but it dissapered how do i open it its not in my app list
|
Re: AT&T 3G Works WTF -_-
Try hard setting it to "3G" under the "Phone Settings".
|
Re: AT&T 3G Works WTF -_-
Click on the status bar where it says 2G and the time and you should be able to select the mode there.

Just that we are a bunch of really skeptical people here and you could make a lot of people using ATT happy if this really works out. |
Re: AT&T 3G Works WTF -_-
The device does not work on the AT&T 3G frequency. No firmware will change that. It lacks the radio hardware for AT&T 3G.

see WTF -_- as u can see im not bullshittng at all i dont know why 3G works downtown and not at home -_- its still slow tho but its on 3G so im lost |
Re: AT&T 3G Works WTF -_-
"It's still slow" == it's Edge/2.5G.

Re: AT&T 3G Works WTF -_-
Just wondering if you have discovered AT&T's LTE trial network and if that is "falling back" to 3G/3.5G to support legacy handsets. If I recall correctly AT&T is planning to roll out their LTE network using 1700/2100MHz bands.
That would explain it... |

Re: AT&T 3G Works WTF -_-
so now im back home and its back to 2.5 -_- i guess its only downtown it works
oh well ill stick to my t mobile sim card for now maybe someone can make a hack to force 3G or i have something in my area that makes 3G work i dont know |
Re: AT&T 3G Works WTF -_-
Ye weird things like this happen. Like my sister who bought an HTC (forgot the model) in Taiwan which only supports Asian's 3G frequency.
After updating her WinMo firmware, she could see AT&T 3G, but technically the phone doesn't support either the American AT&T or T-Mo 3G. The speed was slow though, like Edge. When I inserted my T-Mo card, it didn't show 3G at all even though my N900 has been getting it. I suspect it's something to do with AT&T's weird network. |

Donno if it really is "falling back" to 3G but from what i read 4G is an extension to 3G so it *might* be possible. Still not getting my hopes up any, lets see if multiple users can see the same effect. |
Re: AT&T 3G Works WTF -_-
In Canada, the heavyweight, Rogers also runs on the same bands as ATT. In a recent spectrumj auction the 1700/2100 bands were bought by them plus some new entrants. Wind is one of them, and many canadians are eager to switch. However, Rogers has done nothing with the new spectrum....waiting to use them for LTE as well. If Mara is correct, we'll start to see Rogers LTE network as well, and that will rock for us N900ers!

Re: AT&T 3G Works WTF -_-
i am nearby.
i have 3g turned of fon my phone. i have had a helluva time connecting to the 2g network in reno automatically. yesterday ia did a manual network search and two entries for 'AT&T 2G' came up. Quote:

But now someone needs to find out what band is it the ATT is upgrading their network to. And given that he is not able to get good speeds, either the network is not up fully, or the phone does not fully support the network. I wonder if we are looking at the future where USA is under a common frequency band for data? More annoying is that he's got better download speeds with ATT than i do with TMobile 3.5G. |
Re: AT&T 3G Works WTF -_-
when i do manual search att 2G and 3G comes up but i can only select 3G when im downtown at home it comes up but if i select it says no access maybe others should try that (if this phone dont support that band 850 is it even supposed to show up under manual search?) maybe someone can do something for att users

Re: AT&T 3G Works WTF -_-
haha ya when i switch to my t mobile its not 7.2 as they claim -_- but using mt t mobile sim the internet is way faster i can listen to radio without lag now yay

There are articles on the web stating that T-Mo's upgrade is only partially complete, in that only the "software portion" is in place nationwide. |

Re: AT&T 3G Works WTF -_-
Yeah, unfortunately the upgraded speeds, for both carriers, is spotty at best. I pulled 3Mb in Philly, on Broad St., on T-Mo, but 15-20 blocks further north, still on Broad St., at my Dad's house, I could only manage 1Mb.

Re: AT&T 3G Works WTF -_-
Perhaps at&t allows T-Mobile roaming in Reno. Their SIM cards are programmed to always show "AT&T" as the operator, so you can't tell without checking the MCC-MNC pair what network you're really on.
Sheon, you were seeing T-Mobile 3G, not at&t 3G. |
Re: AT&T 3G Works WTF -_-

And i really dont think that TMo would show a different operators name *while* its their own network which is being used. Something is definitely odd, lets see if other users in Reno see the same. |

im guessing its LTE then? how would i be able to tell what band im using?
|
Re: AT&T 3G Works WTF -_-
to be sure there is no funny roaming going on, I suggest you repeat this with the following setup:
1. goto settings->phone 2. change network mode to 3G 3. change data roaming to 'always ask' 4. change network selection to manual, wait for it to scan, and see what pops up. If AT&T is running LTE and it defaults to hspa for 3G, then you *may* see 2 AT&T entries once the scan is complete. One will have 2G beside it, the other 3G. Post results and screenshots back here. Esp screenshot of the manual scan result! Thanks. |

at my house i cannot select 3g it will say no access but downtown it will work jsut fine -_- so if it dont support the 850 band how come i can pick it up? |
Re: AT&T 3G Works WTF -_-
if it helps any i am using a new sim card
|
Re: AT&T 3G Works WTF -_-
Is it the sim with the 3G logo or a new one?
|
Re: AT&T 3G Works WTF -_-
it has a blue 3g logo on it
|
Re: AT&T 3G Works WTF -_-
Let's give this to the boys at hofo to take a look at.
|
Re: AT&T 3G Works WTF -_-
i have at&t with excellent coverage here in Metairie LA. No such 3g connection when setting the mode to 3g as there shouldnt be. . fact is this is nonsense. It would be easy enough to prove with a video of him setting the band in the phone settings to 3g only and show us that it connects after showing us the sim. silly thread should be closed.
