After the upgrade to PR1.1 I had a funny issue with fbreader disappearing from AM (later reappearing), see
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=41430
(In this thread I referred to AM as Program Manager, because in the German version it's called like this.)
Is this related, or just a temporary fluke with repositories.

Instructions, please :) I don't want to mess with AM.

It involves root and a command line.. insert standard bright yellow caution signs and what not..

Code:

rm -f /var/lib/apt/lists/*
Then do either an apt-get update in the terminal.. or refresh repositories in the App Manager. You should get full new lists.

hopefully you did "apt-get clean" afterwards

I just tried disabling all of the catalogs -- haven't tried that before. Then I enabled Nokia Applications and it worked fine. FYI. I wasn't having any problems, just thinking about your problem...

It's not excellent information because OPs problem has nothing to do with red pill mode or application categories.

OP: could you copy&paste the log from application manager after failed operation.

The thing is, when on WiFi, there is no failed operation because it just sits there and doesn't time out or fail, it just stays on "Checking for Updates..." without any progress unless you press Stop.

I'll post the log that results after I use 3G, as there are actual errors, from my N900.

And thanks for all the help, but I haven't really got anywhere...

EDIT: Here's the log:

hildon-application-manager 2.2.51-1

So there isn't anything in the log after pressing Stop?

No updates and no available applications after that.

Run apt-get update as root. Maybe the App Manager is touchy.. once those files are rebuilt the AM is fine.
