I get this notification when accessing my private messages

does anyone knows why?

Have you finished the signup process - by clicking on the authorisation part on the email that gets sent out?
Another side effect is not being able to reply to other peoples posts.

I don't remember if i received an activation mail the first time, but right now after i click the "resend" link and wait, there's no mail in my inbox or spam folder.

I can reply to other threads and get mails from threads i've subcribed.

It may be just that you've not made enough posts. I think there's various features that only kick in once you've posted enough (e.g. avatars).

This may be, or someone from the staff activated it manually, because now it's fixed.

Reading is usually a good option. The thread just stated that you needed a minimum of 5 posts in order to be able to access Private Messaging.

Reading is a great option, but some people recently tried to BUY a product and couldn't using a private message because they hadn't posted enough public messages. That doesn't make sense, or doesn't seem optimal, and telling them that they should read more doesn't seem very helpful to those folks.

Yup, 5 posts. The system then does the promotion thing automatically every hour (25th minute to be exact).

This rule was added due to spammers occasionally sending mass PMs to random members immediately upon registration.

I've fallen into this trap as well. I'm very green, haven't got a device yet but looking to purchase one exactly when a PM would make sense.

Now I feel I have to post junk messages like this in order to 'prove' myself.

You don't have to "Post Junk". Remember this is a community forum where people are generally expected to have an input. It does not matter that you may not be a Linux guru, there are many questions on here answered by relatively new members relating their observations to a general matter.
If you have a genuine question posting it in the main forum rather than PM an individual person straight away will get it answered quicker and may help future members who .may encounter the same problem.
Everyone has something to contribute :)
