This is what we are working. I uploaded version meamo7 which contains python-support dependencies.
It is also installed completely to /opt

So when upgrading, be sure that you upgrade mypaint-data too (you can always check with
apt-cache policy mypaint
apt-cache policy mypaint-data
that they are in same version)

You must do this:
as root:
cd /usr/lib/
ln -s libblas.so.3gf libblas.so
ln -s liblapack.so.3gf.0 liblapack.so

I have asked python-numpty maintainer, are they fixing this or should we do this automatically when installing package.

note: got catorise installed, but that shouldn't pose any problem, it hasn't so far for any app and for each of the previous mypaint versions.

Same for me, no mypaint icon in the menu.

When starting from the terminal it warns: "Warning: Where have all my icons gone?" followed by a theme search path.

Mypaint comes up with the color selector screen on first run. When I close that I get the brush selector screen. Next run it starts with the canvas.

Also the "mode for input devices" is set to disabled on first run. Had to set it to screen manually.

The brush selection window has strange characters between the brushset names.

Other than that it seems to work very good.

Oh and when opening a file I get a python warning in xterminal from filehandling.py line 204: which reads something like HildonFileSystemSettings has no property named 'hour24'

ok making some progress now...of sorts...I try to launch mypaint from xterm by typing 'mypaint'

Xterm then says: 'Default brush collection not found! It should have been here /opt/mypaint/share/mypaint

Anyone know what I have done wrong? I have the latest mypaint installed, it is only 1.5 meg in size.

Oukei!

I am now back to the roots.. I updated to meamo7 and it is not worked :(

I have now installed 0.7.1-2maemo4...

Where I can find 0.8.2-1maemo6 ???

Because when I updated to this state to there...
everything worked perfectly fine for me.

Why does mypaint close itself in about 5min... This happens everytime I run it.

You need to be sure that you have the same mypaint as mypaint-data. I ran into that problem. I updated via app manager and it didn't update the mypaint-data so it wouldn't launch.

Aapo gave the codes on how to tjek that in xterm on page 18 i think.

If you updated to the newest maemo8 then you can get the mypaint data here
http://maemo.org/packages/view/mypaint-data/

and then do this in xterm as sudo gainroot:
code in xterm:
cd /to/where/file/is/located/ "enter"
dpkg -i mypaint-data_0.8.2-1maemo8_all.deb "enter"

It worked for me and it seems to be working fine. Takes some time to load more than the 0.7.1 ;)

e: Will try to get back soon with info on the new version when i have the time to test it :D

Don't know why there are not working.

Two features I'm thankful for.

*Layer Manager - My only complaint with 0.7.1 and it's already addressed.
*A more attractive gtk_menu and I can call it with a hotkey while in full screen.

Thank you to everyone working on this project. This program makes the N900 amazing value for money.

Plaah.. thank god!

I got MyPaint 0.8.2-1maemo8 to working now..

I removed every trace about mypaint...
and installed python-protobuf (this was my main problem!)
And then installed again everything..

so far so good.. Thanks!

btw. nice that you have not touched this fancy "Pick Color" thing..
I like it just like that.

It should be screen. If disabled you have no pressure sensitivity.

Wow, go away for half a day and there are 3 updates and about five page added to the thread..lol. Loving it.

yeah, finally had time to update to 0.8.2-1v8! so far everyting is working great! Holy smoke we have a lot brush choices now. The thread I was going to start is almost mute now..lol, but I'll do it for the 800/810 folk and anyone else hopefully this weekend.

I saw that many people were having problem from loading the update from the app manager so for this time I tried update 0.7.1 from xterm instead.

I'd alreadly check for all the extra dep'n and was good to go.

type in apt-get update mypaint mypaint-data

it checked and updata mypaint and a few other files and in the end it look like this:

Setting up mypaint-data (0.8.2-1maemo8) ...
Setting up python-support (1.0.6maemo1) ...
Setting up mypaint (0.8.2-1maemo8) ...
Setting up poppler-utils (0.12.2-3maemo1) ...
Setting up python-hildondesktop (0.1.0-1maemo3) ...
Setting up python-osso (0.4-0maemo3) ...
Setting up lirc (0.8.5-3fremantle30) ...
Processing triggers for python-support ...

and now can start from desktop shortcut, hid'n menu working, color picker working, kept all of the old setting fine. Also it took about 30 sec +- for the canvus to come up after mypaint first startup black screen (if that makes sense).

super happy so far. Great wrok guys

x

ok i finally got the maemo9 version working!!! slower than the 0.7.1 but with much more brushes, even though my favorite of the last days is removed... I will probably find a replacement in all these.

Also on my first open a color picker never seen before popped up! I couldnt make it open again though :-( ... Does anyone know how to open it again???

 Slower than 0.7.1???!! is that really true?

Can somebody confirm that?
Because since 0.8.2-1maemo1-8 it is super hyper fast... even in stock clock.

Maybe startup takes some more time but working with it seems faster, especially zooming and panning. I do have the feeling some brushes are slower though but I'm not sure.

Re: Mypaint-0.7.1 for Fremantle

Is it just me or is it normal that the pressure sensitivity is not the same on the entire screen? It seems to vary from the centre of the screen to the edges.

I mean I have noticed that the same pressure applied on the edges of the screen must be greater than on the center of the screen to achieve similar brush hardness (or whatever you call it) effect.

Btw, I have a screen protector.

Yes, this is very much normal.

I have also ZAGG InvisibleSHIELD screen protector...
and it is great! I like this type of gripping surface...
I am not fan of slippery feel at least these types of situations.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resistive_touchscreen

And there is very little what can do about at this type of resistive technology. Maybe software calibration that pressure is different at the different screen areas, helps.

I think, if I remember correctly that some devices even uses that.

Sorry, I wasnt home for a while... Well its mostly the startup time (around 30 secs) and some new brushes that are kinda "heavy".
But the overall experience is faster (zooming out a photo i was working on with 0.71 is waaayy faster, almost instant compared to the old one).
BTW Have in mind that most of the times, if not all, I had many browser windows open, app manager and terminal...

Re: Mypaint-0.7.1 for Fremantle

Thank you Anders and Aapo so much for great work!

I now using this newest version 0.8.2-1maemo9
it is working great.

I have only couple things that is little bit annoying..

1.When I draw something and then want to quickly erase something.

I "Toggle Eraser Mode" there is problem because... brush will change it size! This is strange... and my opinion not so good thing.

2. And it is possible to change "Canvas Rotations" degree value little convenient?.. it seems to be about 25.7 degrees right now. ( rotation by 22.5 degree steps could be a better? )

Now it is impossible to rotate eg. landscape drawing to the portrait... it always a bit of. :(

This is very strange decision when the canvas rotation is implemented to the MyPaint.

Tone

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
EDIT: These 2 things are also included in MyPaint desktop versions. I am really sad about that. :(

Re: Mypaint-0.7.1 for Fremantle

I have installed 0.8.2-1maemo9 from extras-devel and created the two symlinks and it works! Thanks!
The loading time is a little bit long and it starts with the color chooser and it seems not to be possible to draw thicker or thinner lines with a stronger pressure. Is this no implemented in that version?

I don't know if any of you have tried mypaint on diablo (n8xx) - it is pressure sensibility is a dream compared to fremantles crippled version... I believe it is a software bug not related to hardware - Mer on n8xx also had this pressure bug.
Vote for the bug now or it will be forgotten as Nokia moves towards capacitive screens!

WOW! I am very pleased even now.. how well pressure sensitivity works in N900 + MyPaint, but if this even improves... I am AMAZED!

phase315 - those sketches are nice!

I Hope that someone could give you are proper instructions to install MyPaint. I am bit lost which was proper procedure to do things.

All the needed information about install MyPaint should found here.

... for me the most important problem when updating MyPaint 0.7.1 to the 0.8.2-1maemo9 was that, I have not python-support installed
(if I remember correctly).

apt-get install python-support

And I used only X terminal to install MyPaint and MyPaint data.

Look at the first page for instructions..

dpkg -i mypaint-data_0.8.2-1maemo9_all.deb mypaint_0.8.2-1maemo9_armel.deb

Just dare to try :)
