I will install the latest version here in a bit and see if it occurs again.

Yeah, not working for me at all.

I go to the dialpad, select Google Voice option for making a call, dial my work number and it says "General Error" and immediately the call goes to "Ending."

I am connected to a wireless network and I am signed into my GVoice account via the Availability options.

Same issue for me. My Dial Central works, but TOR does not.

It previously worked for you, right? Any idea when it stopped working?

For either, want to provide a log?

*sigh* one of those issues where its not a bug internal to TOR but in how TOR works with RTComm. I'll play with it tonight to see if I get any reproductions.

Aha! Haha, I was thinking it was something like an Onion Router. :D

It looks like the timeouts may be too sensitive for the Edge network maybe? Sometimes it can take a while for the signal to get strong enough to get some responses.

I think it worked once a while back and now no longer works. Unfortunately can't do anything about it presently because I'm doing some battery tests. I may re-approach next week. Maybe some of the latest fix's will work for me.

What is the status of people having connect/disconnect and GTalk issues?

My expectation is you can cleanly disconnect/connect or connect after a connection error (like when running GTalk) but I still expect that sometimes you will have disconnect issues when the network connection is being slow (like when GTalk is loading).

I've been waiting for TOR to get out of its error state for the past 3 days. No change even after the last up that reverted some logic.
Same error about there being an existing handler.

For an hour about 3 days ago, I was able to successfully login to TOR, and make 2 phone calls. For the first call, there was a General error, then on re-trying it worked. For the second call, it worked at first try.

Re: [Announce] The One Ring

It seems that every time I try to place a call, I get the "general error." The second attempt always seems to work as intended.

First of all thank for working on a project that will hopefully be invaluable. I am currently unable to connect through TOR to GV. I am getting a "network error". At some point in the resent past it was able to connect to GV because i have found my contacts on my phone. It has the same error nomatter what type of network i use.

Re: [Announce] The One Ring

Calling isn't that important to me, since I reroute with SIP anyway, but The One Ring was my SMS solution. Now I have none.

I too have the reconnect issues, but just delete and recreate my account on my device to get it back whenever I enter a WiFi network, which sucked, but worked. But now SMS alerts are broken, though some unseen or unalerted messages will appear after you send one within the conversation. If not for GV's SMS to email forwarding, I'd be stuck like Chuck.

Is there a timetable for fixing alerts? I think SMS is the biggest feature of this app, and without it, it is mostly useless. Could I possibly downgrade to the previous version? Not having reliable and timely SMS alerts is a mood killer for me.

Keep up the good work, epage. You deserve some help, and a medal for all you've done so far.

So once you did log in successfully (unless you reboot after an upgrade, it is ambiguous of whether you are using the new or old version) you eventually hit it again?

See below on the call error.

Yes, I'm aware of this one but have no bug filed on it right now (please file!). I was playing with it last night trying to figure out what was going wrong. It didn't seem to do this as much as several releases ago. I'm unsure if its because the behavior is random or if I introduced it recently.

Mind sending a log so I can confirm what the underlying network error is?

Another issue is Contacts integration. Is it possible to do a search for Contacts with matching info so we don't have to remerge every connection? And could some mechanism be implimented to automatically use any number labelled a cellphone as a GV IM contact as well, and all phone numbers as GV call numbers? It'd make initiating a GV IM much easier.

For those reporting they are still hitting reconnect issues, Maemo 4.1 or Maemo 5? Upgraded to latest (0.7.10)? Rebooted since upgrade?

A timetable depends on having bugs filed (well, more so on me knowing about it but I work best by having bugs filed, otherwise I waste countless time on here trying to track each persons bug, their replies to my questions, and then validating that it was even fixed).

By alert do you mean the new message isn't shown in the chat window or Maemo doesn't vibrate/play sound/whatever to notify you?

Could you help me classify in what ways you miss alerts? Within an existing conversation or when it should start a new one? At random times or right as you are sending a text?

Is the only time you miss alerts is when TOR says it has new texts right as you send your response?

Could you provide more clarrification on what you mean by "search for contact with matching info"?

I'm surprised you haven't seen others ask about system contact integration and seen my many replies pointing to the existing bug on this

If it starts working, it works until I switch to another network. Then it stops working.
It starts working only if I delete the account / disable it, reboot and recreate/re-enable.

Also, I do remember this one scenario:
TOR kept reporting network error, so I went into TOR acount and without any changes, saved it - and no change to error, so I went to account again and saw the advanced setting which seemed to have extremely large garbage values (what looked like the +ve value for a large -ve number) in it. I set those to reasonable values (1 hour, 60 minutes, 10 minutes, etc), saved the account and suddenly TOR started working.

This has fixed the problem only once - and I think the problem happened just after your upgrade that introduced those values into Advanced settings.

Later, every time I tried to change those advanced settings values in the hope that it might cause the "Network error" to go away, it hasn't worked.

Don't know if that helps at all.

@General error: Already present: 8980

I have a fervent wish that if I close my eyes hold my breath and turn 4 times it might make TOR work, but I've not been able to reproduce that ;)

Mind posting the first little bit of the log so I can see what the actual underlying error is?

Also have you tried Dialcentral and do you have issues with that?

Sent you an email with 3 logs: One when it doesn't work, and two when it did (after reboot right now).

And yes I have installed DialCentral. It works. TOR does not.

Re: [Announce] The One Ring

Just wanted to chime in that aside from a few quirks here and there it's been working for me.

Currentlly after rebooting, contacts that I merged only have one GV number. If I tap on it, it asks me to select an account (only TOR shown) then seperats the number to 2 entries for calling and IM.

One strange one today, perhaps related to the recent network error issues. This morning I dropped the kids off at my parents house. (I have their wifi setup on my N900). Afterwards while driving I noticed TOR wasn't connecting. Enabled/disabled still network error, reboot fixed. This evening after picking them up and staying for dinner, I returned home. TOR was still connected, having switched just fine from work wifi to 3g to parents wifi to 3g to home wifi. However I noticed my battery level had dropped significantly. It appears I was a vitim of the wifi disconnect bug. I believe my parents router caused it. I didn't notice if this occcurred in the morning.

Could these two issues be related? Could the N900 not disconnect properly/fully from some routers, thus causing the power drain, or sometimes causing TOR to think it's still connected to a previously used network connection? Therefore not geting a good connection?

The best I can figure is I'm leaking the previous connection on disconnect. Next time it comes around to connect, it errors because a connection "already exists".

With 0.7.9 and 0.7.10 I fixed a couple of these issues but it doesn't seem to be all. From some logs I was given I did see another issue (which issue seems impossible to me but anyways) that I've now fixed.

In case I'm just imagining things, has anyone with Maemo 4.1 or Empathy 2.26 (I'm about to start testing with newer version) seen either the re-connect bug or the general error on call bug?

Re: [Announce] The One Ring

Uploading 0.7.11. I don't expect this to fix any issues. I'm mostly interested to see if it breaks anything :)

The changes
  • Bugfix: Attempting to improve the behavior of calls by reducing potential RTComm errors
  • Bugfix: Issues with weird unexpected disconnect issues
  • Bugfix: I guess I made a mistake in registering for system signals, whoops
  • Bugfix: Following more closely the Telepathy spec by doing connects and disconnects asynchronously

Oh sorry, I deleted my post above as I felt it was more appropriate to start a new post asking about RTComm install. Sorry :)

(For reference, my post said that after installing OneRing I didn't get any 'new app'...I then realized I probably needed RTComm...I tried installing THAT and just got an app for "IM log view". Stuck.

Creating a new post for RTComm install issue (here: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...592#post522592 )

I had some bugs in 0.7.11 that prevented basic stuff from working. So I decided to go on a rampage and find similar bugs that have existed for a while. All of them too minor to explicitly list.

Possible problem to report (N900/1.1/0.7.12)

I was having some problems connecting to T-Mo data this morning. Updated to 7.12 via wifi. Appeared to be working fine. Got online with T-Mo support. Had me turn N900 off, switched the tower I was on, turn back on. After reboot, and connecting to T-Mo, I noticed that one of my availability wasn't connecting. I think it was my SIP (Gizmo) acct. I tried switching my status. Then, SIP would connect, but TOR wouldn't (network error).

I have been playing with availability for the last day or two. I created a "TOR" status, TOR - available, SIP - away. Switching between TOR and Online kept leaving TOR with "network error". Disabling, enabling didn't help. Reboot fixed it. I've since connected to both wifi and T-Mo and no issues. Switched between TOR and online no problems. Seems like an isolated incident so far.

Here is the log from TOR. Hope it helps. The error at the end repeated several times.

I've had GTalk, Facebook (XMPP), Skype, and TOR running for the last couple days. Last night I hit the network error issue and got a very similar (baffling) log. I'm contemplating what additional traces might help me get an insight into what is going on.

If determine any additional things that need to be done/executed/etc. Post them here. I'll happily try them if it crops up again.

Having tried out the RTComm/One-ring option all I can say is PLEASE don't abandon the Dialcentral application [for Diablo].

DC is a wonderful stand-alone app that is one of my favorite apps on my N810 (see sig :) ).

Yes I saw both Dialcentral and Quicknote in your sig :)

I do plan to keep maintaining Dialcentral. One of these days I need to take a break and do some updates to it.

I'm curious what your thoughts were that Dialcentral meets your use-case better than TOR (for now).

Seems to be my bug as well. The 'handler already exists' is an error I keep getting. I had the same behavior in that sometimes it would work, but sometimes not.

I use DC 75% for SMSing and 25% to read incoming, translated voicemails. I just really like how DC presents the two. I close to hated how it worked in TOR.

Funny since most people hated how Dialcentral did it (since it isn't designed and targeted at IM style testing) and have wanted something like TOR.

Any more clarity on what you love in DC and hate about TOR?

I do plan on eventually making incoming voicemails in TOR have the rich text formatting that DC presents. I actually started a branch for it last night. I don't expect much progress on that though due to other priorities.
