N800 screen
 

Is it just me, or my imagination, but it appear the screen on N800 is easily scratch by the stylus. I already have several scratch mark on my screen already. While I had my 770 for a month b4 it died, it didn't make a dent.

I've used mine heavily for days, not a single scratch... Are you violent?

Is the plastic film still on?

That scratches quite easily, but the main screan shouldn't.

Have you checked the end of your stylus? One of mine (I had three for some reason, I think you're only meant to have two...well I have two now, as I lost the extra spare...anyway that doesn't matter) had a really rought end to it.

Flash at the end of a stylus would be unusual but certainly not impossible (they are held to very strict standards). I would suggest everyone examine theirs prior to use. But Jose sounds right on target.

I'm using the plastic cover that came with the unit as a screen protector.

Luckily I've still retained my Newton habit of licking the tip of my stylus before putting it to the screen. A single grain of grit o the tip can ruin a touchscreen thoroughly.

That's a nice tip! (no pun intended)

I only found out quite recently that the hugo boss cleaning cloth for one of my frames had a tiny tiny piece of grit on it...

Well, not when it started scratching the hell out of my £230 lenses which had strengthening layer to prevent scratches on them ( I simply thought I had been ripped off by the makers)

but when I scratched the hell out of the on-loan proto N93i's glassy like mirror cover. That was just after I used it to clean my N800 (which obviously has a ton of scratches because of it - didn't notice as the screen was on)

That "screen protector" that comes with the N800 is not very optically clear and does scratch very easily. I have also been using the N800 daily and very often with both my fingers and stylus and at the end of the day when I clean the screen I have zero scratches and marks on mine.

I think Nokia thought ahead and figured how to design the screen to prevent markings from normal use.

In fact I asked this very question at CES and they said they test that by putting products into a tumbler with pebbles and other things to see how the case/screen will fair with serious abuse.

Yeah, the first N800 I saw (I think was on announcement of the new N-Series), I think Reggie already removed the screen protector and that, If I remember rightly, was very very very smooth - no scratches.

Never mind the scratch, but how did you keep the smell away from the tablet after about a week or two:eek:

BTW, if you are talking about the film w/ the blue thingy, it's gone. Appearantly, there could be another plastic film that almost the same size as the screen, but it's tough to take it out.

What smell? :confused:

Upon arrival, the N800s come by default with an el cheapo screen protector that covers the entire screen. Upon this miserable sheet of plastic sticks a smaller, non-clear plastic tab, useful to take the bigger plastic off the screen (I took the small tab off and left the big plastic on, so I'll need to perform some business card gymnastics later on to get it off).
