gtalk (any im service) secure on an open network?
 
if i gtalk on an open wifi network, is my info/password/conversation ... open?
or is the communication through a secure server?

You shouldn't assume any IM protocol is *ever* secure at any point. Second, no one cares about intercepting and reading the average IM since 99% of it is just stupid bull anyways. Third, if you really need to transmit something securely, you shouldn't be doing it over IM.

gtalk uses ssl so it is reasonably secure.

i don't really care if someone reads my chats ... but gtalk uses my gmail info ...
user and password ... are these "safe"?
