News on Abiword for N800?
I was excited when gnumeric for the N800 came out quickly. Since then, iI can find nothing about getting Abiword working.
Anyone know anything? |
Re: News on Abiword for N800?
No? Nothing?
Bummer. I was looking forward to having a real word processor in my pocket. |
Re: News on Abiword for N800?
As far as I'm aware I'm the only one working on AbiWord.
I've got a rather basic version of 2.4.6 built but the hildon patches against 2.4.0 are showing their age and are incompatible with 2.5.0, the current mainstream development release. I'm working on 2.5.0 now for the 770: hopefully putting it on the 800 will not be a difficult exercise. |
Re: News on Abiword for N800?
You have my gratitude and admiration.
Although 2.5 is still beta, isn't it? Is it close to release or at least pretty stable? |

Re: News on Abiword for N800?
I had read that previously. The new features for handhelds are great. But I didn't see anything about how stable the beta is.
Never mind: I guess I'll be able to find out for myself soon. :-) |

Aleksandyr:
Thanks again for your work on Abiword. I am using your most recent work on my (replacement) 770, and it works great, although I had to give it a push or two to get it reloaded (dependencies). . . I look forward to the update and are thankful that you haven't forgotten about those of us sticking with the 770! Thanks, Keith |

Re: News on Abiword for N800?
I'm somewhat embarassed to say this, but I created 2.4.6 packages and then entirely forgot about them. They introduce some new problems, unfortunately, and do not fix all that much that I can see. Will be released when I get home.
Being as I only own a 770, haven't the cash or motivation to buy an 800, and was not selected for the DDP, yes, I'll be developing for the 770 relatively exclusively for the forseeable future. I work on devices I own. I'm going to give the 800 port a shot, but if it requires heavy lifting... 2.5.0 is pretty stable according to my informal tests: it's important to get the Hildon UI working with 2.5.0 as the next release of AbiWord will be based off this source tree. |
Re: News on Abiword for N800?
I just want to reaffirm my interest in (and appreciation of) any improvements to AbiWord for the 770 -- the Nokia I will be sticking with for the foreseeable future (and I probably could afford an N800 if I really wanted it!). I'm already using the earlier configuation of AbiWord, though, so it's not as if I've been without.

Re: News on Abiword for N800?
I second both ascherjim's sentiment and situation. Thanks very much. I'm using abiword on a daily basis, and frankly, I will not even consider upgrading until a 'real' word processor (that is also compatible with a desktop system) is released. In the meantime, for all intents and purposes, the 770 does everything I need it to do, and it is thanks to guys like you, Aleksandyr, that keep me (and others like me) afloat. Thanks, Keith

More news on abiword here: http://www.figuiere.net/hub/blog/?20...6-for-maemo-20
2.4.6 is working fine on my 770. Some abiword developers have a discount code ofr the N800, so there may be an "official" versiuon out for that soon as well. |
Re: News on Abiword for N800?
As I've previously reported, I have been using the previous version of Abiword on my 770 for some time. I've just downloaded the new version. My Application Manager recognizes it and tries to install it, but ultimately fails, with no explanation. Have those of you who have gained a successful install of this new version done anything different than "requesting" the Application Manager to install it in the usual manner?

Re: News on Abiword for N800?
I did install with application manager and it went well. I upgrade the OS to new version but I installed all those applications which were there before upgrade so hard to tell if the upgrade helped abiword installation. Anyway I just put needed information to application catalogue and now Abiword is running well, if you don't mind few crashes that have happened. I think it would be useful to check that application catalogue entry, there could be some little error in there.

Re: News on Abiword for N800?
Well, my Application Manager still can't effect a successful install, neither of the new Abiword nor the required additional dependencies, even though they're all listed on my 770 as being available for installation. Either my Application Manager is not working, or my install of the previous Abitword is interfering with it (which is probably unlikely). So, I guess I'll just have to continue with the earlier version. Thanks for your advice.
