No one said flash 10.1 is coming in PR1.2, or to the N900 for that matter

He's just messing with you. MeeGo 1.0 will be a very basic platform on which companies will be able to build their proprietary applications, including phone applications. That doesn't mean someone won't make a rudimentary, open source phone application.

It's all a bit complicated. For example, the next version of Maemo, Harmattan, is going to be MeeGo-branded, but won't really have much to do with MeeGo itself. And Nokia is not promising to get Harmattan onto the N900 and probably won't. So be happy with Maemo 5, there will be PR1.3, at least of that we can be certain.

QT4.6 apps can then be used on different OS's eg Symbian.

So would this mean the next update of Ovi Maps using QT4.6 could be easily made to work on the N900?

Lets say that with Qt 4.6 we have a possiblity for a first time really to have new OVI maps as Qt 4.6 is compatible with Symbian^4 and Harmattan.

I haven't really heard much about the Flash 10.1 arriving with next update, but N900 uses ARM v7 so maybe we will. I sure wouldn't mind!

Thanks for the answer/reply @ Laughing man

:)

I mentioned Meego because many news sites/blogs etc had announced it a lil while ago that it was coming to n900 by end of March.
I guess I shouldn't believe everything I read eh?

Re: Speculation about the next firmware (PR1.2) and its release date

Laughing Man please forgive me for simplifing this (and tieing this to the Windows Universe):

Meego 1.0 is to Maemo 5 is like Windows 7 to Windows XP.

The next version of QT for Maemo/Meego is like the next version of .Net for Windows XP/Vista/7.

PR 1.2 is like the next Service Pack (eg. SP2) to Windows.

Hope this explains it better for some.

Disclaimer: The numbers& versions are not important! They are there just to ilustrate the comparison

No. You're comparing an open source project to a vendor-supplied distribution. MeeGo 1.0 is not directly comparable, it's a common base enabling vendor-supplied (proprietary) applications using Qt. At this point we're not even sure how much of a UI this thing is going to have on day one. You most likely won't be able to just slap a MeeGo 1.0 image onto your N900 and start making calls, sending text messeges and browsing the web like you can with Maemo 5. If you think this open source project with its first release is going to produce better experience than Maemo 5 then you're fooling yourself.

Edit: If you want a comparison, then something semi-accurate would be Maemo 5 is to Harmattan as Windows 7 is to Windows 8. We've pretty much have some vague idea how Harmattan or W8 might look like, but we're sure as hell thinking they'll both be better than their predecessors.

...snip...

My post was only intended as a general: K.I.S.S.

And I think you misunderstood my post.

I compared Meego 1.0 with Maemo 5.
Then I compared XP to Win7.

I did not compare Win to LIn.

Anyways this is getting off-topic.

I didn't misunderstand your post, your oversimplification in that one particular case was misleading and required some clearing up. I'm not sure where did I imply any comparisons between Windows and Linux in general, that's absolutely not the point.
