i think it will be available pretty soon (next couple of days maybe). i'm basing this on a freoffice update depending on qt4.6.2 (which is part of pr1.2) that became available this evening but cannot be installed at the moment due to missing dependencies. we can basically see already some of the steps leading to pr1.2.

That's because Autobuilder is using PR1.2 SDK since last week. There are other apps in extra-devel which won't install anymore due to the missing dependencies.

Hm... I think it will be released tomorrow.

-Can't be on April 1st for obvious reasons
-Article says "later on this week", can't be April first or on a Friday, if something goes wrong, it will be hard to contact someone on the weekend.
-SDK released for like more than a week already.
-PR1.1 was released on a Thursday
-PR1.1.1 was released on a Tuesday

But then again, it's anyone's guess.

Anyway, everyone knows that PR1.1.1 was the last major maemo update that will ever be released for the N900, and we may as well use these devices as door-stops (but they're too thick.... damn). PR1.2 doesn't actually exist - the new SDK is actually a lie being pushed by the same people who say we landed on the moon.

From what I've read so far, there is not a single new piece of functionality confirmed for 1.2. Yes, lot's of bug fixes and of course I'd be happy to make the phone more usable, snappy, and consistent, but tell me why is this release not just another big yawn?

So of course it is going to be a bunch of BS. It's still entertaining though :D

A lot of them tried it before, but GeoHotz was able to hack PS3 in five weeks... Nokia can't debug their own software in five months... I can't belive it, I will play PS3 ISOS BEFORE my N900 is working properly.
Perhaps wrong people working at Nokia.

for me this is just what I expect to happen. After all this is the main area for n900 chats. Who buys n900? A lot of ppl who shouldnt have :p And so we have a combination of all the funny and angry ppl, kids and adults, around the *main* area of tmo. Just the nature of the room.

For example, no such stuff on the development forum side, cuz only the ppl who write code hang out there, but here we can expect anyone.

Kind of entertaining for me, i am not usually bothered with these threads, a couple of laughs is good for me :) ...

editing: on a lil serious note, there is just one time when I'm bothered by such threads, and thats when I type tmo on my browser and the page is rendered, my first looks go to "Active Topic" list on the right. There if most of the threads are of less significance like these, it bothers me if other more important threads go down the recent list just bcuz more ppl are posting on less important threads like these. So clicking on the "New Posts" link becomes a must i think.

Should there be a thread-ranking system somehow?

Professor James Lovelock said today on the bbc news "We can't save the planet" now the thing is .... can Nokia save the N900 because right now it is nothing more than a play thing for childish developers who are trying so desperatley to make the N900 a mobile that we can actually use ! all i see is a lot of useless comments and hopes useless games and nothing in reply at all from the manufacturer to put anyones mind at rest regarding the mess they have made of the completely useless design of the N900 and its inadiquaited functions to date. Now all i see is games and useless software that was superceded by the likes of the atari and amiga etc and they cant be played properly because of the screen size. Please Nokia stop playing games with people and realise we all paid £500 or so for this piece of junk that is giving everyone a headache. I am afraid to say it really looks like the joke is on us for buying it in the first place.... oh well its made a few bob for Nokia and given them a hell of a lot of feedback for the next maemo device. GOOD THINKING NOKIA !!!

I live in useless hope but its true if you look closer to what has happened here and read all the junk, oh what a headache.

The big question to Nokia is... WHAT IS THE FUTURE FOR THE NOKIA N900 ?

Re: Speculation about the next firmware (PR1.2) and its release date

Seriously, if PR1.2 ETA is now MAY, the future of Nokia N900 will be "the first world phone with a screen hole" just under now we can see refresh icon... but this is a new feature, because we'll be able to change battery without opening the device... or perhaps PR1.2 is only part of this big paying betatesters project we're involved, and now they need to know how many "click" hits break our screen (mine looks slighty depressed there just now)

Thanks for your comments but sad to inform you that you just cannot fob people off by that quote because of the facts surrounding this Nokia N900... when people start to get serious and maybe getting together a lawsuite against Nokia for the highly overated mess they have sold us as a mobile... just maybe we will get some results because (and dont forget this) £500 is a hell of a lot of money for a useless mobile.:(

Re: Speculation about the next firmware (PR1.2) and its release date

Abill, you're right. I never accepted some kind of "as is" clausule when I open my N900 box, neither when I first boot it... YOU MUST DO IT WHEN YOU BUY A PC, so hardware manufacturers can deny software-related issues (at first Windows start you must accept "as is" ). This mean that SOFT BUGS ARE UNDER WARRANTY.

I live in useless hope but its true if you look closer to what has happened here and read all the junk, oh what a headache.

The big question to Nokia is... WHAT IS THE FUTURE FOR THE NOKIA N900 ?

When I bought my N900 it was pretty obvious to me what it can and what it cannot do. I don't understand people here raging about being misled or being surprised at what they spent their money on. Of course if you were misled by the store you bought the N900 from then it's up to that store to be responsible for giving false information. But I haven't seen any false advertising from Nokia about N900. They have been actually quite open about N900 being a bit of a nerd device and that it's not complete package like their Symbian phones are. And N900 can do things Nokia says it can.

Sure I wish also that there was much more software for N900, but then again I knew that I wasn't buying an iPhone with thousands of apps ready for it. I find the whole linux-thing fascinating (I'm a mac & windows 7 user myself) and its fun to try out new free software that's coming almost daily.

So I'm just saying that you can do tons of stuff with N900 at the moment. I surf the net with it, read RSS-feeds with it, play poker with it (I'm actually a bit addicted to PokerTH at the moment), write stuff with the nice keyboard etc etc. I mean really, sometimes it's good to focus on the positives and forget what you can't do with the device you own.

I don't know whether my next device will be MeeGo-device, but at the moment I'm happy with N900. I must admit iPhone with its absolutely enormous library of apps is appealing, and maybe I'll buy iPhone one day (when it's more like N900 really).
