Re: Which OS are you using on your desktop?
I use Winodws 7 Ultimate x64. Since I got the N900 I've tried Ubuntu and it was great but I just can't migrate from win7 to Ubuntu. Maybe in time
|
Re: Which OS are you using on your desktop?
I play Windows XP at work.
Mac OSX Panther on my old Powerbook Pismo. Debian Testing on my desktop. Windows mobile 6.1 on my O2 XDA Flame. Maemo 4 on both my Nokia N800 and N810. And Maemo 5 on my N900. I think that's all... |
Re: Which OS are you using on your desktop?
Win XP Pro Sp3, just for the games, if I didn't like to swim with black sharks or chasing the seconds down at the nordschleife I would probably had linux only pc.
|
Re: Which OS are you using on your desktop?
Also using Linux exclusively for about 10 years, no dual-boot. I use Gentoo. It's great to finally have real linux in my phone. :)
Oh, also my TV (Philips) runs Linux and so does my wireless router (DD-WRT). Before linux on my PC I would Dual-Boot between OS/2 (primary) and Win98 (games & few utils). Before OS/2 I used DOS, multitasking inside of DESQview. :D I've never been a full-time Windows user in my life. How do I run Ovi Suite or other Windows software? I don't. |
Re: Which OS are you using on your desktop?
Linux Mandriva on lap-top.
FreeBSD on desk-top. Maemo5 on palm-top ;-) |

All have advantages :) |

At work: Windows7 with cygwin
At home: Mandriva 2010.0 (but most of userspace compiled myself) |
Re: Which OS are you using on your desktop?
Windows 7. I do have a Mac in the house, they are okay but a few little things are missing that I like too much about Windows. Have always been told about Ubuntu in the past, seen it in action and it looked okay but I couldn't be bothered messing around learning it for weeks on end when I don't really use computers much in the first place.
We shall see what the future holds though... |
Re: What desktop operating system (OS) are you currently running?
TV: Ubuntu 9.10 (myth + boxee) Acer Revo
Bedroom: Ubuntu 9.10 on Thinkpad T42 Other bedroom: Ubuntu 9.10 MSI wind Basement: Ubuntu 9.10 + Windows Vista Office: XP Dell minitower Dead computers: Thinkpad x23 - Ubuntu 6.10 Thinking of replacing the x23 with either an Asus T91MT or holding out until some of the new laptops with USB 3.0 start shipping. |
Re: Which OS are you using on your desktop?
I have Windows 7 and Snow Leopard dual-booting in this PC. I like the challenge of getting OS X to work on a PC, especially on this incompatible configuration -- currently, the only thing not working is the sleep/hibernate feature. On my laptop, it's Win7 and Jolicloud (a Linux OS for netbooks, kinda cool, and easy to install too).
I mostly use Windows for games and for stuff required for school (like, having to code in Visual Studio, etc.), but otherwise, I use OS X or Jolicloud. Edit: I've just seen another [longer] thread similar to this. Maybe someone can merge these threads... |
Re: Which OS are you using on your desktop?
And you created another thread on this subject, why, again? There's already one such thread, look around a bit before you post crap like this. Seriously...
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=42338 Would a mod please merge the two threads? |

Created a 10Gb hd image , inserted win xp cdrom into cd then "booted" the virtual machine. Installed windows absolutely fine. Whenever I need windows just start virtualbox, boot the image and that's it! I think there are 2 versions of virtualbox - the OSE version but with no usb and the "normal" version which does support USB. |
Re: Which OS are you using on your desktop?

Re: Which OS are you using on your desktop?
I have installed Ubuntu on the day where Windows Vista were officially anounced :) I'm still loving it... Windows 7 is not bad too but i like working in Linux more, i don't know why... i think its multi-desktop and compiz.
10.04 and 10.10 gets very eye candy, but i was happy with 6.06 too :) |
Re: Which OS are you using on your desktop?
Ubuntu + Windows 7.
They are very different but I love both :) |
Re: Which OS are you using on your desktop?
I hate all versions of windows with a passion. It's unstable and slow.
I mainly run Gentoo but have a Ubuntu installed alongside of it, since the VPN commection at work uses SonicWall (Piece of CR*P) and it's one of the few distros the Linux client supports. :( |
Re: Which OS are you using on your desktop?
Windows 7. Easily one of the best OS's ever. Its on my laptop and two of my desktops. If the n900 ran it I would use it exclusively.
I have Ubuntu installed on a home "server" and sometimes I'll VNC into it. I have KDE dual booted onto my laptop but I never use it. Someday I want to get a macbook pro, but only to laugh at it and say I have mac "experience". EDIT: Meant to add that this summer I want to make my own linux desktop and learn each piece. Its my understanding that the kernel can be built with different "modules". So I'm going to look into learning what modules there are, what they do, and build my own kernel. Installing JUST a kernel gives you a terminal, right? Cuz I want to start barebones and install an XServer, then play around with different window managers and choose which one I like and basically build it from the ground up. I'm sure my disdain for linux will only be increased but I want to try this. |
Re: Which OS are you using on your desktop?
For development: I'm currently dual-booting a mac-mini with Mac OSX and Windows XP. Both systems access a Ubuntu 10.4 Virtual Machine on a USB hdd attached on it :)
For surfing: Using my eeepc 901 with windows xp all the time :) |
Re: Which OS are you using on your desktop?
Desktop Home: Debian Testing+KDE
Notebook: Kubuntu Desktop Work: Kubuntu Parents': Debian+KDE (it is easier for them and for me, because it doesn't break as often as Windoze) |

Re: Which OS are you using on your desktop?
Been dual booting Ubuntu and Windows XP for 4 years now. Thinking about wiping it and making it Ubuntu since I rarely boot into Windows nowadays.
|
Re: Which OS are you using on your desktop?
OS X (10.6) on laptop, ubuntu running on virtual machine.
Windows XP on another laptop, haven't used it since I bought the macbook. |
Re: Which OS are you using on your desktop?
gentoo for the last few years.
Started with Linux in about 1994 with Slackware when it was installed from 6 floppies. Moved on after a few years to RedHat. When RH went commercial I moved to gentoo rather than Fedora, and never looked back. My Eee still has Xandros but without the unionfs, however that'll be finally going to gentoo in a couple of weeks. I run Win 2K in a VM for when I need to get compatible with a customer, but for very little else. |
Re: Which OS are you using on your desktop?
OSX 10.5
Switched to a mac a few years ago, I can no longer use Windows without getting frustrated! The same for OSX when I started using a mac at uni, I hated it, but now love it :p Did use Ubuntu at one point, but I need the Adobe Creative Suite, so unfortunatly couldn't stick with it :( |

Re: Which OS are you using on your desktop?
W7 Ultimate x64 on the desktop and W7 Ultimate x86 on the lappie, cos the poor little chip can only process 32bit info.... Maybe ketchup would help - you know, grease those 64bit chunks up so they could pass through more easily?
Can't really be running anything else as my lady and nipper don't know anything other than windows. The shift from XP to W7 terrified them enough, I can't traumatise them any more with a command line interface. Besides. I love W7. It's preeeeeeetty..... |
Re: Which OS are you using on your desktop?
openSUSE 11.2 on a X4 Desktop at home.
openSUSE 11.3 Milestone 4 / MeeGo latest trunk on my EeePC 1000H. Windows 7 at work (MS ASP.NET required). I hate the little quirks they introduced in W7. |
Re: Which OS are you using on your desktop?
Trisquel 3.5 Awen, one of a few really free GNU/linux distributions! (home and at work).
