New app on Ovi Store: Tunewiki Media Player

Just checked Ovi Store and a new application was just added: Tunewiki Social Media Player.

I didn't have the time to evaluated well yet, but the interesting news is that is based on Qt4, probably the first in the Ovi repository if I am not mistaken.

Re: New app on Ovi Store: Tunewiki Media Player

It seems to have cool integrations besides the lyrics, like finding related video clips from a song on Youtube.

Tunewiki widget was already one of the coolest and yet simple application I had on mobiles, so its media player it is worthy to try it.

Re: New app on Ovi Store: Tunewiki Media Player

I'm using Plantronics P509 cant skip tracks only volume adjusting,I have to click 2x for tracks to play while in offline mode and screen keeps dimming, I know I can change it but tunewiki is a app that reads out the words for the songs so why wont it say lite? and it keeps asking me if I want to exit offline, so the same way it knows its in offline, why don't it know to keep the screen lite? it plays really good but with the internet connection it plays crappy why cant we get better app's

Great app ... just installed it.
Rediscovering my own album collections with the Music lyrics and the You tube video .... great to be able to see the videos of the Blues acts which I used to listen to. Its a nice addition for when you want to be more involved in the music then just to listen to it.

I am using it over Wifi and the Youtube video are working smooth - no stuttering as yet .

A few points worth making ...
On the Album List view it shows only the Album name - wish it also showed the Artist name on the same listing.

The Back button on the top is too small for easy navigation - have to attempt it around twice before I get it...

I am loving it if only for the Youtube video and Lyrics addition so far.
Of course when I just want to listen to music (as at Office) I would use the regular Music player. But this is great for entertainment purposes at home or elsewhere ...

Re: New app on Ovi Store: Tunewiki Media Player

Nice, It has shoutcast radio built in! I was looking for an app to do that. However on my work wifi that is more than fast enough to do shoutcast+more its buffering every 5 seconds or so.... so its not usable maybe its the station I hope.

I did a library refresh but it seems like its missing about or over half of my songs/albums, not sure what is up with that. Its looking like maybe it found my MP3's but not my AAC encoded M4A songs.

Edit: ok this player is fubar lol

I went to go play something from Rurouni kenshin and it shows the artist and album art for Nightwish, and its even one of the albums the player doesnt have listed.

not being natively english speaking I find this really great application while listening to internet radio! Great work, thanks!
One change to the lyric section I would like is that the highlihted row be in the middle giving time to read the lyrics

Re: New app on Ovi Store: Tunewiki Media Player

It is a great application but I don't like the fact that it uses ~9MB of rootfs because of the qt4-webkit dependency. I thought Nokia has updated the QT4 libraries without rootfs usage!?
You shouldn't expect something like that from the official store :(

yep, exactly my problem with this player...installed it, checked rootfs, tried it once, uninstalled....if they improve the opt i may try it again.

But the good thing (but which I don't understand) you can use Google Maps and not only the mobile version. How have they done that because it is not possible with MicroB!

Re: New app on Ovi Store: Tunewiki Media Player

This app is amazing...but i detect some bugs...hopefully they fine-tune it and add a VIDEO option where you can watch video you stored on your phone just like music.

I am amazed that it's able to show lyrics line by line synchronizing with the music. Even some videos have lyrics too. Amazing.

Cool...
starting to understand it..

wish the album art could be enlarged in size.
also if the album art could be saved together in the library ( maybe it does)

but I do understand that this player can do so many things other players cannot do...cool

Re: New app on Ovi Store: Tunewiki Media Player

It hasn't eaten any of my rootfs. Still at 48mbs free.

Re: New app on Ovi Store: Tunewiki Media Player

Maybe because you already had the QT4 dependency installed!?
What was your download size?

Tunewiki Media Player is not from Android. It’s in every OS like Symbian, Iphone, Android…

Tunewiki SMP for Maemo is great, I love my radio and music :)

Re: New app on Ovi Store: Tunewiki Media Player

player looks nice but how do I create play lists ? Also, why does it not use the album art embedded in the mp3s instead of downloading lower quality (and wrong) album arts ?

Re: New app on Ovi Store: Tunewiki Media Player

The tunewiki player itself uses up a grand total of 28 bytes of rootfs space. The problem is the QT 4.5 libraries, which are non-optified. This is Nokia's fault, and nothing to do with tunewiki. You'll be running into plenty of other apps which use these libraries as well.

DaSilva 2010-01-28 09:13

Re: New app on Ovi Store: Tunewiki Media Player

And why (or how) can they integrate the full Google Maps (as far as you can see) which is not working with MicroB?
It should be possible to create a Google Maps application, shouldn't it?

Right, ok, thanks Rob, i think i understand now.....Many apps will need these QT4.5 libraries to work, but Tunewiki just happened to be the first i installed?...so, if i had already installed them via another app then Tunewiki would have taken hardly any space right?...so, i may as well install it anyway as i'm going to need the QT4.5 libraries sooner or later, or is it possible for Nokia to optify them? and if it is, will they? :D

Dan

Re: New app on Ovi Store: Tunewiki Media Player

Yes, that's right - the first app to require the libraries will pull them in (and seem huge) whereas later apps will just use the already-installed versions. And hopefully Nokia will optify them - the 4.6 libraries are optified already, so it may be that they'll just try to push apps over to using them instead (should be trivial enough).

Re: New app on Ovi Store: Tunewiki Media Player

good points of app
  • lyrics pulled up in the player, way better than the tunewiki widgit
  • you tube linkage
  • maps - dont understand what the point is of seeing what someone round the corner is listening to though
  • internet radio - nice list and great that you get album art and lyrics with every song

bad points of app
  • album art is rubbish on my saved mp3's as it keeps showing incorrect album art ... i want an option to 'use saved album art'
  • would be good if when browsing albums i have saved on my device i could browse via my saved album art

Overall nice app but i will probably use it in conjunction with the default media player.
I will use the default media player when listening to my own music as album art being displayed correctly is pretty important to me.
I will use TuneWiki when i want the lyrics to a song saved on my device or i want to listen to internet radio.

If the first 'bad point' i have listed above was fixed i would use TuneWiki as my music player 100% of the time!
