That's not so great. There's also FeedingIt which is a lot better (not sure it's made it out of -devel yet though).

Create a custom HTML page with a meta-refresh to auto refresh the page for some odd number of minutes; add an iframe on that page to your Subscriptions' page from the User Control panel, leave panel on desktop/mobile open and boom... without RSS you get those updates.

I also believe that the Subscriptions' page is also its own RSS feed (an authenticated one), so that would also work from one's RSS application.
