Gmail pushing to N900 before outlook, can you help?
Hi...
I have configured gmail on my N900 and have gmail settings also in my outlook on my PC. When I ocme home from work my N900 automatically connects to my home network and recieves email from google server BEFORE my outlook picks it up!! Is there any way I can configure outlook to be priority taker of my mail? Or maybe ask the N900 to not take my mesages before outlook? Sounds like a stupid question but when I get important mail, I want it stored in outlook! I currently have to keep a copy on googles server inbox. And why has my N900 suddenly stopped taking emails when im away from home on my networks internet? It did used to work before I installed an IP desktop app!!! I had to uninstall it as it was actually preventing me from connecting to my home network. So any ideas? I can see at the moment that the only solution would be to take gmail off the N900! Or is there a quick way to disable it when I get home? And how do I pursuade the N900 to start picking up email when im on my normal mobile internet? cheers. Matt. |

Outlook default setting will clear the server of emails when it collects them, you can set the N900 to leave a copy on the server when it does. This is how I do mine, although I use Outlook Express and I have set it to leave a copy on the server for 5 days, that way I will still get emails on the phone even if the PC is on and I am away.

Re: Gmail pushing to N900 before outlook, can you help?
Thanks guys. My pushing problem has been solved, I just unchecked 'update automatically' in N900 email settings. That way my n900 only receives mail when I ask it to.
The only problem left is actually receiving mail when out and about so I'll try mikec's idea. Although I connect fine when out and about to vodafone gprs and it did at one time receive my mail, now it seems to not bother. (I do have gmail to keep msg's on server and also n900 to keep on server) thanks. matt. |
Re: Gmail pushing to N900 before outlook, can you help?
I would personally want to keep emails on Googles server. Why don't you want to keep them there? I have about 7Gb worth of space and am using 400mb ish at the moment.
If my pc goes pear shaped then at least I have my emails accessible. (Yes, I do backup as well but it is convenient to just pull them back down.) |
Re: Gmail pushing to N900 before outlook, can you help?
Use IMAP rather than POP and mails will be accessible from both devices (as well as the web) unless you explicitly delete them.

Yes, unless you happen to uncheck the "leave on server" box on one account. And read status is not synced AFAIK.
