Re: [ANNOUNCE] PyQt 4.7

It is optified. Qt isn't. If there is any way you can think of I can make this more understandable than it is already said in the package description, let me know.

EDIT: Added a red warning in the first post plus package description excerpts. Hope it helps...

Sorry I saw "qt4" in opt and assumed this what had been installed, I'm still trying to get my head around Linux again Ive, been developing .net for years.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] PyQt 4.7

Qt4.6 packages are temporarily using /opt, but that advantage will sadly go away with PR1.2 as then Qt4.6 will replace Qt4.5 - in rootspace :(

Re: [ANNOUNCE] PyQt 4.7

Call to testers/users - The latest version (that apparently solved many dependency issues) needs a bit more formal feedback. So if you are a PyQt user and/or have extras-testing enables and having fun with it, take a sec to provide feedback on

http://maemo.org/packages/package_in...t4/4.7-maemo7/

and

http://maemo.org/packages/package_in...oc/4.7-maemo7/

Thanks and happy hacking !

Posting these here, hoping information will be useful to others too.

@attila77
Do you have any information if PyQt will be ported to MeeGo? Or maybe it is in Moblin and it will go to MeeGo directly from there?
If not do you plan maintaining packages there too?

Will PyQt be available for Symbian devices that will be built on Qt?

Asking to know, if we write something for N900 with PyQt, it will be easy to port it to other devices.

Always in motion the future is :) It will be trivial to port the 'base' PyQt, however, there is the question of the new DUI classes. Their future (to me) is unclear - will they be universal and migrate to base Qt ? Will they be part of the MeeGo UI toolkit ? or, in the worst case scenario, just specific to the reference Meego handheld UX ? What will be supported from PyQt will largely depend on the answer to these questions.

As soon as I get my hands on a MeeGo device :)

I don't have a Symbian phone, so nothing from me for now. The current generation of Symbian phones mostly has too little memory to be useful with PyQt (128MB is the minimum, really, and even there, it's a stretch - it's just too easy to run out of memory). If anyone steps up to do it, I'll certainly help.

Finally, something I can answer unequivocally - yes. PyQt builds on the mainline Qt, which is present on ALL Qt supported platforms, meaning that whatever you do in PyQt, you'll be able to reuse on ANY Qt supported platform it exists for, from future MeeGo devices to desktops.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] PyQt 4.7

I am trying to install and am getting the error message

"Unable to install 'PyQT4 Full Install'
Application packages missing"

and then there is a long list of packages.

I currently have Version 2.2009.51-1.205.1

Is there an issue with the repos?

Re: [ANNOUNCE] PyQt 4.7

Is this a clean install or did you try to install PyQt from the command line previously ? Are you installing from extras-testing or extras-devel ? It would really be helpful to see the actual error (just do a screenshot with ctrl-shift-p).

this is a clean install using both testing and devel via App Manager

Re: [ANNOUNCE] PyQt 4.7

Interesting, but this does not seem to be a PyQt problem per se. There seems to be a mixup with your Qt install (see the 0maemo4 in the Qt versions ? Those are from the 42-11 firmware, definitely not 51-1). Did you perchance have a broken installation of any Qt application or weirdness doing the 51-1 upgrade ? Try (from the console, as root)

apt-get install -f --dry-run

(just to see whether there are any errors - the dry-run parameter will make sure nothing gets touched).
