Nice,

Is your N900 overclocked?

samipower 2010-12-22 01:24

Re: [Maemo 5] MAME [WIP] (Formerly SDLMAME)

yes in youtube videos description .you can see it.

950cpu/500dsp pr 1.3

Bazza 2010-12-22 11:57

Re: [Maemo 5] MAME [WIP] (Formerly SDLMAME)

Oh yeah sorry didn't read the description.

it does seem to make a slight difference to performance.

samipower 2010-12-23 12:48

Re: [Maemo 5] MAME [WIP] (Formerly SDLMAME)

slight difference?? to play 60 per cent or play to 95/100 per cent i think that , it is a big difference

Now i am doing a list with games /are or are not / running well

and after i will do a pack with all games that are running well and i will upload it to megaupload or other

for the people can play this emulator very well jej ej eje

the only i can see that , the emulator list into are horrible ,

not alphabetic order or available or not available

order roms horrible, you have to write a rom that you can wish play , it is well but...........

Bazza 2010-12-23 16:16

Re: [Maemo 5] MAME [WIP] (Formerly SDLMAME)

@Samipower

My N900 is NOT overclocked and Cadillacs and Dinosaurs runs at 97% on auto frame skip.

i can see that your version runs 97-101% on auto frame skip - not a massive difference in my eyes.

Although

The simpsons runs 76% on mine

and

98-101% on yours

So overclocking does seem to make a big difference on mame.

Can you test and post your results on these 2 roms when you get chance.

Nemesis

and

Vulcan venture

Samiipower, let me point you to the Maemo Wiki page for MAME compatibility:
http://wiki.maemo.org/Sdlmame

You could add your tests there.

Samipower, could you get dodonpachi to work? I always get the message that some roms are missing, even though I've tried a lot of different versions.. It would be amazing to be able to play that game on the go.

Hello , news

soul calibur dreamcast game run in mame 0.138 but 12% speed

acidspunk you have a private message

edit:

tekken tag tournament playstation 2 game running /mame 12% speed

it is rare dreamcast and psx games run very slow but mame games or neogeo games run well.

i think that .it can be any library or cpu two cores needed

Has anybody considered running a benchmarking script on their n900 for a few days and creating a database. Even at stock speed it should come up with hundreds of known working 100% speed roms

samipower 2010-12-28 18:02

Re: [Maemo 5] MAME [WIP] (Formerly SDLMAME)

and that do you think is the website

and if you say other thing more good , you can do it

Re: [Maemo 5] MAME [WIP] (Formerly SDLMAME)

Flandry, what is the name of the command (?) that performs the "shift gears" function in games like Outrun? I know that it is bound to the spacebar on the keyboard, but I would like to remap it and I cannot find it in the list of configurable keys.

BTW I just got a sixaxis controller, and it works very well with MAME on the N900. So thanks, again!

Bazza 2011-01-20 02:09

Re: [Maemo 5] MAME [WIP] (Formerly SDLMAME)

@oldpmaguy

Start the game

1. Press the button for config menu.
2. Select option input (this game).
3. go down to gear shift and change it to whatever you want.

I would say enjoy but mine runs at 18% speed on auto frame skip setting.

oldpmaguy 2011-01-20 14:56

Re: [Maemo 5] MAME [WIP] (Formerly SDLMAME)

Oh, I totally forgot about the ROM-specific config screen. I've never thought to use it since there isn't an easy aceess button ready to go in the N900 version of MAME. Thanks for reminding me.

All the same, shouldn't there be a global key that can be set? I'm thinking of Spy Hunter too, now, and Radmobile, Turbo Outrun, etc. I'd really like to just handle this all at once, instead of per ROM, if I could.

As to framerates, Outrun gets pretty playable at ~ 4-5 frameskip, once you get past the checkered flag bit, you should try it. (But, I kind of like playing these games at a slightly slower clip, it makes 'em easier! %^)

What speed percentage do you get on outrun?

Also in the main menu go to configure general inputs option then select user interface then you can change the button for config menu.

should make things a little easer for you.

Yeah that's the very first thing I did after I read your post, set a key to call up the in-game config. I totally forgot I use that all the time when playing MAME on the PC. You know, out of sight, out of mind.

I get betwen 25-30% speed w Outrun - it gets much more consistent once you pass the checkered flag at the start. Set frameskip at 4 and it's very steady and playable, give it a try (unless you're one of those types that wants things to be "just so", but I don't mind settling - hey, it's OUTRUN on my PHONE!!! 8^)

Also I'll pass on another little trick I just came up with. Since I was quickly running out of buttons to map things to (I have been playing on a GameGripper, and recently started using a Sixaxis - very sweet), I started mapping multiple keys to the same buttons! So, my "insert coin" is also my "start" is also my "pause"! It works very well, and it's kind of fun to come up with button combinations that will be efficient but not conflict with each other. Anyway, just throught I'd share!

Bazza 2011-01-21 11:20

Re: [Maemo 5] MAME [WIP] (Formerly SDLMAME)

@oldpmaguy

25-30% speed.:eek::eek::eek:

Do you overclock you're n900?

I know its outrun on my phone which is great and i am a massive fan of outrun (hence my avatar) but my GP2X WIZ set at 533mhz on mame4all 2.5 (build 0.37b5) i get outrun running at 76% speed at 18fps on frameskip 7 very playable and i could overclock up to 830mhz, but my tests on the wiz are up to 600mhz to keep it as close to N900 cpu speed so the comparisons are fair.

There was a conversation a page or so back which explains how this could be achieved.
So my hopes are quite high that the N900 will one day have similar mame performance.

Yep i use six axis and its great with TV out.

Oh yeah, I forgot to say, I OC @ 1GHz!

I don't know why the GP2X could triple the N900's performance, maybe it has something to do with the build of MAME being used?

I actually had my GP2X stolen while travelling :( and the N900 was its sort-of replacement, if you can believe it! I really liked my GP2X, but I have to say, the N900 surpasses it in so many ways I don't even think about it anymore, Outrun notwithstanding.

Yeah, I didn't even notice your avatar, you're the perfect person to have this conversation with! NB, the GP2X's version of MAME doesn't support Turbo Outrun, but the N900's does! Woot!

Bazza 2011-01-21 22:22

Re: [Maemo 5] MAME [WIP] (Formerly SDLMAME)

OC to 1GB that says it all.:)

Yeah its all down to the age and version of mame.

new versions - compatibility is high performance on old roms can suffer

older versions - compatibility is high (on roms made up to a certain year mid 90's i think) and performance is excellent. newer roms (late 90's to present day either will not work or run properly)

oldpmaguy 2011-01-21 22:41

Re: [Maemo 5] MAME [WIP] (Formerly SDLMAME)

You don't overclock? You should try it, the N900 gets very responsive, it's really very nice. And emulation doesn't suffer, ;)

Have you tried the "multiple key assignments for one button" idea, btw? I should get a thread going on that in the games section, maybe.

Bazza 2011-01-21 23:26

Re: [Maemo 5] MAME [WIP] (Formerly SDLMAME)

Nah, i have no need to OC my N900 it performs really well as it is and if it made a massive difference to emulation then i may have considered it but as it adds slight speed improvements to emulators i will stick with what i have at the moment.

multiple button configuration is a godsend in mame emulation and helps out quite well with game pads with limited buttons as you have found very useful when using you're gamegripper. :)

I unzip and repack the files up on my PC then transfer over to my N900, i know what you are doing is the same but could you do it on you're PC and make sure the re-packed file is named the same as the original rom and try it on you're N900?

Bazza 2011-04-27 19:59

Re: [Maemo 5] MAME [WIP] (Formerly SDLMAME)

[Request]

Can anyone have a look to try and port this version over to the N900 maybe look at Flandry's port and replace the main parts with this version. (if it works that way)

http://mamedev.org/oldrel.html

and look at the source for this version:-

0.37b5 (0.41) 27 Jul 2000 m37b5s.zip

i am getting great results on my gp2x wiz with this version on the older roms and that is keeping the overclocking under 600mhz.

It would be great to have the current version and an older version installed on the N900 and then we could choose which version to load up depending on the rom to get the best performance.
