KMPlayer 0.10.3-1 now in extras-testing

Because of bug https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8079 the main window is now a single playlist. All videos are always played in fullscreen.

In fullscreen, a single tap on the screen will show a close button and the toolbar. You can navigate through the playlist in fullscreen, by using the arrow keys from the keyboard, when using the default player. You should see the current selected item on top of the screen. Like in the playlist of the main window, Up and Down, moves the selection, Left collapses the selected folder, Right expands it and finally Enter will start playing it.
MPlayer maps the keys to its own on-screen controls. So only limited navigation with the toolbar buttons for this player.

The flash player is now run in a separate process (like gstreamer and of course mplayer). The reason is that after flash had played something, kmplayer became less responsive. Also it crashed from time to time. In this new version, the flash process is just shot down if it takes too long to end normally.
Playing flash is now limited to 640x480. Current flash player is just too slow to scale it up to 800x480, causing it to eat all CPU which in its turn, made it stall often.

Tapping a folder in the active list, now opens or closes it, instead of starting playing the first link below it.

Hope you like the new interface. If you do quality testing, please try it and we can forget about the severe bug 8079.

The new build is definitely more user friendly and intuitive and much more aesthetic! Thank you partner!

Just want to say thanks for the work that you continue to put into kmplayer.

this looks so much better...I like that you can now tap the screen and see the slider to skip forward/backward through the movie....I always hate having to use the keyboard all the time....sometime, I want my right hand free ;)...anyway, I like it very much...much thanks for fixing the app....

With the "osso-media-server" player, I lose the video after switching away (Ctrl-Backspace) to something else, then switching back.

It shows the video briefly, then goes back to the playlist. If I hit the play button, I hear audio (my assumption is that the video is now playing again), but it continues to show the playlist.

That looks like a bug. Actually the video should pause when switching away from kmplayer.

It probably does. I've gotten into the habit of explicitly pausing the video before switching.

At any rate, here's a bug entry for you: https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8759

Re: KMPlayer 0.10.3-1 now in extras-testing

I´m not sure about these so i have to trust my memory

- When i press stop i mean stop i do not want to return to same place where i pressed stop :) Pause is different thing.

- Any change to add volume control to full screen UI? Pressing HW buttons make film stutter.

- I´m having little trouble with flash links provided with player. It plays only some of them? I parses youtube and provides all the links?

I´m not sure what to think of current playlist view and bottom last played view and checkmark and play button. Something is not quite right here. Have to look this things and make some better review, but i think this is bit confusing.

REALLY REALLY good work!
I really wonder why default media player gui cant handle videos as kmplayer handles. I have H.264 videos which get jerky on default media player and play fine with kmplayer with default engine.

Re: KMPlayer 0.10.3-1 now in extras-testing

In another thread, I read that the continuing playing video when switching tasks, is seen as an advantage. The post tells that when connected with TV-out, the video keeps on playing on the monitor, and the device can be used to browse the web or whatever.
I just tried it and indeed magically that works. I guess it's the XVideo causing that.
So, just not going back to the normal view, is also a possible fix. Also because if one task switches using ctrl+backspace, one could as well pause the video if that is desired, no?

It's the youtube REST interface that returns an Atom feed.
Unfortunately, not all results have a video link. I think when uploading a video, one can choose whether it's allowed to embed it elsewhere.
The maemo query is one that returns lots of entries without video. Unlike many queries I've asked (mostly googletechtalks and dutch documentary).
Entries with video have the video format in its title.

Please do, I'm just a silly developer that desperately needs help with making an user friendly UI :)
That said, it can be daunting to do the right thing in all possible situations. Not to mention that the internal playlist handling survives the ever changing UI libraries, and the GUI needs to be re-construction for each Maemo device (no offence b.t.w. being a Qt developer, learned quite some Gtk the last years).

I have no idea, maybe the default mm player has a composed window in front or something else. But indeed, we both use gstreamer and playbin2.

Awesome job so far. I too wouldn't mind a volume control as well. Thanks for the hard work...the program looks better now and more user friendly.

1) It is full screen mode by default
2) Subtitle info here, http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...384#post514384, thread #60 and #61

Hope this help. Have you take a look at WorldTV99, you may like it, quite some movie/trailer channels and it is NOT a paid app

Re: KMPlayer 0.10.3-1 now in extras-testing

I'm not able to play a .flv with the following format:

General / Container Stream # 1
Total Video Streams for this File -> 1
Total Audio Streams for this File -> 1
Video Codecs Used -> On2 VP6
Audio Codecs Used -> MPEG-2 Audio layer 3
File Format -> Flash Video
Play Time -> 7mn 6s
Total File Size -> 17.4 MiB
Total Stream BitRate -> 342 Kbps

Video Stream # 1
Codec (Human Name) -> VP6
Frame Width -> 640 pixels
Frame Height -> 480 pixels
Frame Rate -> 30.000 fps
Total Frames -> 12786
Display Aspect Ratio -> 4/3
QF (like Gordian Knot) -> 0.032
Video Stream Length -> 7mn 6s 133ms
Video Stream BitRate -> 294 Kbps
Video Stream Size -> 15.4 MiB (89%)

Audio Stream # 1
Codec -> MPEG Audio
Codec Profile -> Joint stereo
Audio Stream Length -> 7mn 6s 133ms
Audio Stream BitRate -> 32.0 Kbps
Audio Stream BitRate Mode -> CBR
Number of Audio Channels -> 2
Sampling Rate -> 22.05 KHz
Bit Depth -> 16 bits
Audio Stream Size -> 1.81 MiB (10%)
Audio Encoder -> LAME3.96.1

It plays like a slide show rather than a video. Do you see any problems with this file?

With the version 0.10.3.900-1 in -devel, this is fixed, as far as I am concerned. Do you want to mark https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8759 as RESOLVED?

Sure! Otherwise I closed it when promoting it to extras.
FWIW 0.10.3.900 has this fix and a added feature to resort lists like worldtv99, which we're still experimenting with.

Re: KMPlayer 0.10.3-1 now in extras-testing

I have a problem with KMPlayer:
I use KMPlayer to stream radio stations from my home computer's TV card to my N900.
This all works fine, but whenever I lock/unlock the screen the stream stops.
If I leave the phone alone to go dim the screen by itself there is no problem, but ıf I unlock or manually lock the screen this happens.

Odd, I just tested this with a radio stream (radioparadise) and, except from a small hickup, it just kept on playling. Used the default player (gstreamer aka osso-media-server). I know that mplayer outputs after these hick-ups caused by the screen dimming, 'trying to reset alsa'. Are you using mplayer?
Btw. can you reproduce this with a internet radio stream? If yes, can you post the link you were using?

Update: last week I had this strange effect that when leaving my apartment, listening to a mp3, the sound notification of the terminating wifi connection, caused the playback to stop. I had to press the stop button and play button to get it going again. A reboot solved this.

Re: KMPlayer 0.10.3-1 now in extras-testing

I am indeed using MPlayer as backend.
http://superfmaac.radyolarburada.com:9235/
I seem to have the same problem, but less frequently on this stream.
This made me think that maybe the AAC/MP4 codec is a bit heavy since my home pc streams in that format too. I will try different formats and report back with my results.

Arif 2010-02-17 21:00

Re: KMPlayer 0.10.3-1 now in extras-testing

My reports are as follows:
128Kbit and 256Kbit MPEG4:
takes a long while to buffer and play.
Stops playing when the screen is locked / unlocked. Will play again if stopped and played.
256Kbit MP3:
Buffers faster than AAC and stutters heavily when doing other stuff. Will stop playing after a few unlocks.
128Kbit mp3:
Same buffer speed. Doesn't stutter as much when doing other stuff. Playback stops occasionally.

gstreamer plays this stream just fine for me (I have decoder support installed, don't know if that is needed for this stream).

Anyhow, before next release I experiment with mplayer and pulse audio output driver again. This was broken some time ago and therefore, mplayer uses alsa currently.

Re: KMPlayer 0.10.3-1 now in extras-testing

Yes osso plays it fine.
My problem is that OSSO doesn't play streams muxed in TS / PS / ASF or OGG and therefore I'm unable to use osso for my home PC's video/audio streaming :(

koos 2010-02-18 21:33

Re: KMPlayer 0.10.3-1 now in extras-testing

Build kmplayer_0.10.3.901-1 for you that sets audio output driver for MPlayer to pulse. It's in extras-testing. The bug I saw before apparently is fixed in MPlayer (was that the volume was 100% when MPlayer started playing)
Can you try this one?

Arif 2010-02-18 22:12

Re: KMPlayer 0.10.3-1 now in extras-testing

Oh oh ! It works! :D
Thank you SO much for this new version :)
The buffering is also WAY faster now. Before it took like 40 seconds now it takes like 5 on 256Kbit MPEG4 audio.
