Re: N800 Competitive - HCT Athena ???
Thanks Fidibus. IMHO, this is the first posting of a true competitor to the N800.
For all of you who say it isn't a competitor because it isn't open source, the display is lower resolution, etc., you are confusing disadvantages and shortcomings with competition. A competitive device is a device that would be bought by people instead of the N800 for whatever reason. If the Nxxx is going to succeed and more are sold, you have understand the purchasing decisions that are made and why the Nxxx is losing on sales. |

Re: N800 Competitive - HCT Athena ???
It's a device for the walkaround web all right -- but with a built-in disk drive, keyboard, 2 MB camera AND GPS, it would seem to be an OQO competitor not an Internet Tablet competitor.
Estimated price -- $1500-$2000*. I don't imagine we'll see remarks like these in reviews either: "[buyers] might pick a less expensive UMPC." There aren't that many devices that will be more expensive than UMPC's apparently. ---- Added later: From the mobile-review.com page linked above: "Keeping in mind standard pricing policy applied by HTC, high prime cost and development costs, the price for HTC X7500 is likely to revolve around the level of 1500-2000 USD on release." |

mobileburn.com is reporting the cost to be 499 euro + 2year contract on t-mobile germany. So, for ~100euro more you get a full access to data and phone services, plus a keyboard. But you give up screen real estate. I realize the target audiences are different, but it is a compelling price point for the device. |
Re: N800 Competitive - HCT Athena ???
I agree that 499 euros puts this in the same niche as the Nokia Internet Tablets.
But which is it? $1500+ is not even close to that figure. |

Looks like the Samsung Nexio
http://www.mobilemag.com/content/100/335/C1757/ At least that had an 800x480 screen. |
