Well, I have NOT doen anything yet.......hope the virus got bored and walk away by itself :(

Yes, the virus got straight through Mcafee twice, this time and 3 months ago (it was my computer 3 month ago), Mcafee is really not good enough!

It's definitely not a terrible idea. Safe mode is always a good start for these common viruses/malware; check any guide or how to on removing viruses. (e.g. http://www.wikihow.com/Remove-a-Virus)

I fix viruses daily as part of my business for what its worth. Obviously for servers or critical machines, I perform a backup through a live cd before attempting to remove the infections though I never needed to restore them. Bootsector viruses can be fixed using the recovery console in the windows cd but this particular virus is not a bootsector one.

I agree. I would also mention Microsoft Security Essentials, although missing some features, it is still a very worthy competitive.

I tried several times, even within safe mode, cannot execute any .exe; I took care the last virus (3 months ago) by using system restore. But this one does NOT allow me to go to system restore. I am thinking about brute force...........

This should work but make sure you rename the .exe files you want to execute to "winlogon.exe" as suggested in the guide.

If you can somehow run an .exe file, try AnVir Taskmanager. It will stand in place of the windows task manager. When/if you can get it to run in safe mode, you should see some suspicious process. Kill it and you will buy yourself enough time to do a scan with Malwarebytes.

It is NOT possible to run any process. I guess if you keep trying, you may get lucky once to get thru between processes................I surroundered to the evil forces.......WinXP re-installed. All is well, so far
