It should work fine? What's it doing with your umlauts? UTF/ISO problems? Pasting from Firefox problems?

Anyway, you could just remove the umlauts and spell it Kristinebergsvagen instead of Kristinebergsvägen. Don't underestimate the European Postal Services!

Huh, I thought it was Excel, but it was Shopify. When I download a CSV of the orders, it has munged the text already! Here's an example:

Bäckaströmsgatan

Jeez, that looks horrible! I'll have to contact support, because changing 20+ addresses on every order is no fun. This morning, I forgot to check, and printed almost thirty bucks in bad postage. Agh.

Looks like UTF-8 interpreted as Latin-1. Maybe you can tell Excel to import the CSV using the UTF-8 charset?

That's UTF-8 characters, shown as ASCII. It's because CSV files only support ASCII. Renaming the file to something.txt and then importing it to Excel should probably make Excel recognize the UTF-8 characters.

Or you could send me the CSV file, and I'll send you a good-looking XLS back.

Yep, you and thp are right - that was the issue. If I rename it as TXT and go through a slightly more painful process to open it, it works just fine.

I wish I could do that, but I couldn't ever send or share everyone's personal info, even if it saves me a ton of pain...

Edit: But if you could send me a good-looking Swede...

Yo,
Just got my 2 Black woods today. Superfast, UBER Perfect product!! Love it, THANX!

Re: Laser-Cut Stand for N900

OMG, seriously? That's great news!

Also, for people who bought the wood stands, be sure to really seat the back brace in place. It may take more force than you think... but it's designed so the back brace actually floats a fraction of a millimeter above the table.

Got my one of each today (just now) - California.

They look great - and seriously well packed. Many thanks! :D

Fake (wonderful nickname for a "tradesman" btw ;))

This is a perfect example of why I love the Maemo community!
Not only did I find numerous software mods for my N900 here, but now you actually found a way to make the N900 "hardware" experience even better! Really great work :)
I was wondering, I am planning to order a set of stands through your webshop, but would you accept a slightly larger payment then necessary (I really like what you're doing here and would like to give you the chance to benefit from your idea) or would that just mess up your system of managing orders and payments?
(For example 30$ for the mixed home&office set...)

So I received my two wooden stands today. Packed well enough that I had a devil of a time getting them out of the envelope and the wrapping :p . Now, I know others have been wondering this so I have proof that it works with the eBay rubberised hard cases. Behold:

http://img683.imageshack.us/img683/2507/img1787m.th.jpg

Not only that, but the stands are stable enough to allow my assistant to stand ON the N900 with the slider open (depends on the size of the psittacine employed - I would not try this with an Amazon or Macaw :D ). I wanted him to hold the stylus for his photograph but for some reason he just wouldn't.

Thank you, Fake. These are quite excellent and very fairly priced.

Please, go ahead, I would really appreciate that. Just order something that amounts to the money you'd like to spend, and then email me (danreetz at gmail d0t com) with what you'd actually like to receive in the mail.

Thanks for the kind words.

How can you have ordered any? When I check and try to order they are always sold out

Re: Laser-Cut Stand for N900

I'm really sorry about that. Right now, there are only single packs of acrylic and 2X packs of acrylic left in stock.

I'm spending the whole day today making more black wooden stands and more acrylic stands. I don't want to mark them as in-stock until I actually have them done -- but expect them to show up in the store by late tonight or Monday at the latest.

I am making several hundred of each this time, so there should not be any stock problems for a long time after this.

Ok. If something is sold out from your local market then come back next day and again and again...Fake just commented that he is doing another batch of stands.

Re: Laser-Cut Stand for N900

I am asking the possibility to book or reserve the item and wait the next availability. This is not possible to do into the online shop. It is not so comfortable to "come back next day and again and again...". I think it could be better to take reservation to better manage orders and production. Unfortunately in the online shop there is no way to let messages.

Trizio, I will be sure to have enough stands for you. I will also look into a way to contact me from the shop.

I havea load of wooden stands in production right now. All that is left to do is to give them the non-slip coating and pack them.

Re: Laser-Cut Stand for N900

Sounds great. You got my refund, right?

I live in a basement, and it is very cold. The paint on these new wood stands is taking a long time to dry. I don't want to put them in the store until they are ready to ship, but that will be Tuesday morning (my time) at the latest.

All orders made this weekend will ship first thing tomorrow morning. They are packed and ready.

This is really quite an inspiring thread.

I didn't realize at first that the big "The Online Store Is Open!" on the first message was also a link to the online store.

If one could figure out a way to make threads/communications like this as open as yours for bigger marketers, one would have a great model for businesses in the future. I mean, I wish I could get information and service like this from, say, Time Warner Cable.

I will order from your store as soon as it has more stock!

I'm so glad to hear you are enjoying your stands; especially after a whole day of making more of them.

Tomorrow morning, the moment I wake up, I'll re-stock the store and set the second wave of stands in motion.

Cheers, all.

Mine arrived this morning to the UK :)

The perspex stand is perfect, but the wooden one isn't quite sitting flat - I'll have to take a look at that when I get home and see why that is.

Please check that the brace bar (the longest piece) is fully seated. When it's pushed completely in, it will actually float a little bit above the surface it is sitting on. If it's not all the way in, it can be like a fulcrum for the stand to rock on.

If your stand is faulty, I will take care of it.

I've thought about it, but I'm not sure. What I imagine doing is finding a stand for some other phone that people are happy with, and then making a new top/holder piece for it.

Anyone have suggestions for such a base?

Hi Fake,
I just received my pair (wood / acrylic). I spend a lot of time on the road and would like to know how to best dismantle them. Right now I'm afraid I'll snap off something. Any suggestions?

fake 2010-02-17 04:20

Re: Laser-Cut Stand for N900

They both fit pretty tightly, which is going to make things tough for you.

As for the wood stand, It would have been easier to take them apart if they were still bare wood. The paint and the non-slip coating on the wood stand both conspire to seal the two halves together. If you push them together/pop them apart a few times, it should get easier each time.

The same goes for the acrylic. The important thing with the acrylic stand is to take it apart without applying pressure to the thin parts on the far sides of the back brace -- try to pull it apart straight up and down, because if the side piece flexes hard against the sides of the back brace, they will snap. But again, with every removal/insertion cycle, they will become easier and easier to take apart.

My opinion is that a bare wood or acrylic stand is the best option for travel. Both can be "broken in" so that they come apart easily. It reduces their overall stability, but does make for something very portable.
