Mini review

I got my stand yesterday or the day before in the mail. Have to say I'm very impressed, it holds the N900 wonderfully.

Pros:
- Looks great!
- Cheap
- Easy to assemble / disassemble
- Does its job perfectly
- Makes your N900 really stand out (sorry for the pun, haha)

Cons:
None!

I got my black stand today, it's perfect. I barely remember ordering it, and suddenly it was here!

I am typically lying on a bed or a sofa when I am using my N900, holding it up in the air and even typing that way, so I am not sure how I will integrate the stand into my lifestyle. Nonetheless, it was a fun purchase and I'm happy with it.

About the tight fit in the acrylic stands:
You could try to to make the slot a tiny bit wider on the bottom than on the top. This way it would still grip tightly but with less stress on the bottom of the slot.

My double pack arrived today in the Netherlands,

Only on the acrylic stand on the back part, only on one side
there is a tiny extra cut seen in the acrylic due to wrong cutting I assume.
Will provide a picture if Daniel wants to see it.

Otherwise am very happy with my stands....
they are amazing, simple but very nice to use !!!.

I wanted to buy a 2 pack of these awesome stands but before going ahead and ordering it ,I wanted to know if those "clips" would cause any scratches around the chrome trim on n900 while navigating the web ?

You have used it alot by now i suppose :D , can you give me some input on this matter ?

Hi Fake!

I got my stands friday (wooden & acrylic). They are awesome! Only thing is, the acrylic stands back part was already broken :( Is it possible to buy only that part? For now I'm going to try to glue it together. I took couple of pics of it and also of my sisters 5800 stand what could give you some ideas if you are still planning somekind of a foldable travel version. I also may have some improvement suggestions for these stands, but I'll think more about them and post here later.

I don't think that the chrome trim will get any damage from the stand.

Early in this (enormous) thread, someone asked if the stands would scratch. I took a wood stand and scratched it like crazy on the bezel of my N900 -- and it did nothing. That was a black wooden stand.

Just now, I took an acrylic stand and tried the same thing, with the same result -- no marks at all. If you like, I can make a video; just let me know.

Blast! Looks like the post office smashed it. I will mail you a replacement tomorrow morning (can't mail it today because there's no post office open on Sundays). No charge. If you get a chance, send me an email with your order number, just for reference.

If you try to glue it, the best glue is weld-on #44 or straight methylene chloride. It will actually melt the acrylic together. Superglue might work.

BTW, I couldn't access foldstand01 or 02.jpg -- 403 forbidden.

It would be nice if you make a video that shows it ,I totally believe you without even making the video :p . Maybe showing in the vid when the keyboard pops open/when putting the phone in and out of the stand and see how it affects bazel of n900 .

I'll try to make a video sometime today. As for the matte blue paint, sorry -- I'm having enough trouble with getting the black paint perfect as it is. The last batch of stands took an extra two days to dry due to the solvents in the paint affecting the non-slip coating, and I have whole boxes full of stands with bad or uneven paint. For now, I just have to stick with what I know works. :)

Thanks for the laser-cut stand - it works great.

Someone else may have mentioned this, but I added a homemade customization to help the resistance of the acrylic version on flat surface - rubberband. Very nice now. Here is a pic of it below:

Yes, black is matte/flat. There isn't currently a glossy black one. The clear acrylic stand is definitely glossy.

Now those foldstand pictures should work http://users.metropolia.fi/~laurital/stand/ That kind of hinge may be a bit difficult to make but it could be replaced with somekind of a tapethingy.?

What comes to putting back part back together, I'll see what kind of glue I can find from garage. I'm also gonna put some clear silicone on bottom of side parts. I think it's gonna work great as a nonslip substance. Just have to figure out how to make it flat.

If you have self-leveling silicone, it may flatten out on its own. I clamp together 40 or 50 wooden stands and brush this rubber compound across the bottom by hand. It levels out a little, but not too much. I didn't apply the rubber compound to the acrylic stands because it wouldn't stick (for long, anyway). In the last batch, I removed some of the non-slip compound toward the middle of the arms, because it was occasionally causing some stands to wobble a bit. Most people receiving their stands this coming week should see this change.

Let me know how it works.

I've also considered sanding the bottom of the acrylic stands and applying a no-slip compound...

As for the 5800 stand pictures, wow! I've never seen one before, I can't believe how much my stand resembles the 5800 stand. I'll have to see what I can do about making a folding one...
