Heh, nice! I made cardboard mockups, too.

I made the whirly stand from a hard drive motor and some plywood. When you have a laser cutter, you can make almost anything... :)

I go off-thread for several days and get a text from my son asking if I had ordered extra styli yet (nope. too busy) and that you broke your phone.

Hope you still have a 3 pack left. I just ordered a pack to have sent to the kid. This way he gets to see your 'styli-sh' craftsmanship. He hasn't seen my black acrylic or stylus yet.

Between us we will have 4 wood stands, my black acrylic plus four extra styli. Just need an extra n900 for my husband! He would enjoy it so much more than the $20 phone from Target. Drives me crazy because he's worked for a major computer company for over 30 years. Maybe he wouldn't feel so left-out when we have our faces in our n900's!

well, just ordered it. i'm really curious about how it will be since i'm using my n900 as a stereo in my flat.

I forgot to take a picture of another unique use for your stand. My husband had a rental car last week and whilst with another couple I was in the back seat. The headrest on the front seat held my phone and stand in such a perfect position that I didn't need to hold it. Made for very efficient use of my N900!:)

Hmmm....could be a new marketing tool for parents with young kids. Load up an n900 with videos, mount it with your stand under the headrest and hope it works on a long trip. This would be a stretch for an excuse to get an n900: "Honey, it would be cheaper than an entertainment system in the car"!

I've had a lot of requests for a custom, heavy stylus. I have some ideas on how to make them, but nothing concrete. So far, the custom stylus is top on my list.

FYI to everyone: I will probably be moving around the middle of next month. During that time, I won't have the laser and may have to temporarily close the store. Before I go, I'll try to cut enough new stands to cover orders during that time, but I can't guarantee anything.

I got my laser stand today in the UK. Looks awesome.
However, the acrylic stand doesnt go well with my case http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...ef=oss_product. The case slips on the stand. The wooden one is better in that respect.

Any recommendations for a case which works well with the stand?

Hmm. I don't have a case for my N900, so I'm not sure I can help you. How does it slip? Maybe I can make some kind of non-slip version for the phone itself, too.

Cases are always a problem for this sort of thing because they are all slightly different sizes.

UPDATE: I bought one of the hinged aluminum PDAir cases, and I may make a custom stand to accommodate it.

Today I was pleasantly surprised with a small envelope coming from the USA. I immediately recognized that it must be the stands that were sent to me 2 months before (feb 11). On feb 19 it was in Bolivia and now (apr 12) it is in The Netherlands. Unfortunately I have no further tracking information, but I'm curious where the envelope has been for the past 7 weeks...

When fake says 'worldwide shipping' he is serious about it...

i would like a waterproof plinth for my sharks.
at the moment whenever I try to use them to make laser etched stands, they swim around uncontrollably.

please let me know how you manage to keep your sharks with laser beams focused for long enough to produce cool things.

Holy crap, that is the longest (and most confused) shipping time on record. One package to the UK was lost for 20 days, but eventually arrived. Wish you had contacted me, I'd have sent you another set! But very glad you got them, in the end.

lcuk, I have the rare zinc selenide sharks that focus laser beams by virtue of their construction. I got them from Instructables.

Announcement: Limited edition stand wrap
 

Announcing a very limited edition product: A laser-cut microfiber stand wrap for my N900 stands.


The edges of this laser-cut stand wrap are cut and welded by the laser; they should never, ever fray. I personally stitched them together using a Bernina 1130 and 100% poly thread. All stitches have been doubly reinforced and all threads melted back to prevent the possibility of stitches coming undone.

Although these are made of microfiber, they should not be used as screen cleaners because of the melted/welded edges.

I use the wooden stand now a few weeks and can't complain, it felt already down and I even stepped once on it and its still holding everything just fine. I received the mail already 1 week after I made the order, which is not bad for a delivery from the US to Germany.

Just ordered a acrylic stand together with the microfibre stand wrap, feel free to send #1387 and #1388 together :)

Ive seen alot of cases but most are actually just pouches and and nearly all of them dont protect from a fall.

I have a PMP and It came with a case that I think would be perfect for the N900. Here are some pictures (notice the little details like the pastic inside the case which "grab" the device so it wont fall if the case is open):

Mine arrived last night, and they are a tight fit indeed. Was afraid of breaking them by applying too much pressure, but managed in the end (heard a slight crack but didn't see anything and it feels very solid).

Nice design, works perfectly!!! Recommended.
