But I am in for the combo set, one wood and one acrylic. Thx

That's the third or fourth request I've gotten for a folding one. Once I get all these shipped, I'll have a look at designing one. There must be some kind of cool clever hinge I can make...

How rigid does it need to be??

Nice and shaky. Its nice holder but you cannot probably use touchscreen when phone is there.

Somebody is ordering from Germany?
I would appreciate if some kind soul cared about a batch order for several items at once so we can reduce shipping costs and handling as well as payment.
I'd be willing to order two or three of these and pay via national bank transfer as I do not want to open a PayPal account myself.

Wow, Fake, you are quick. I'm trying to convince my university research team to get some of these so we can do a group order, and I'll pass the word around to a few other people who may not have seen this, too. Nice job!

Re: Laser-Cut Stand for N900

For everyone posting questions about shipping:

Shipping should be included in the price for anywhere in the world. This will not be the world's fastest shipping. However, it will be affordable. It doesn't make sense to pay $15 shipping for one stand for faster service.

Because shipping is included in the price, that means that for some stands, I will make very little money, maybe none, and for others, I will make a reasonable amount. I hope that it will all average out and people all over the world can have my stands at a reasonable price.

Anyway, if your question is "Will you ship to $country", the answer is YES, absolutely!!

If it somehow turns out that they cost a lot more to ship than I calculated, of course I will have to ask for a little more. But I have a postal scale here, and I trust it, and I don't think that will happen.

Hi Fake,

I am starting to grow fondness for on my N900 (in spite of my dislike for Nokia's indifferent attitude toward N900 users) and need two mixed stands for this lovely companion.

I need a painted black and an acrylic please. A question I had based on the pictures is will the curved shape scratch the metalic bezel around the phone?

Good work buddy and hope the orders from here will help you get another N900 :)

Hi flydeep,

I just took a black painted stand and rubbed it hard on the bezel of my N900. It didn't mar the finish at all. I think you'd probably wear the paint off the stand before you'd have any problems. Even that would take some work.

The acrylic stand is much softer than metal so that should be the same if not better.

Good info, let me know when and how to pay (paypal works well for me). I will also include the shipping info with the payment. I am assuming you can send a pvt. message through this board.

Fake, I'd like to purchase two of the wooden stands. Could you please add me to your spreadsheet and let me know how to paypal funds to you?

@zehjotkah: Yes, I read the first post several times and yes, it's obvious the pre-order period has passed. What's not obvious in the first post is what new folks should do to get on the wait list for the next production run. Hence this post...

NEW VIDEO:

It also shows me destroying a couple stands. You can see that the acrylic one can be shattered if it is struck very sharply, but it is otherwise very strong.

There's a funny break in the middle of the video, sorry about that.

Back to setting up the store.

No, as I said in the video, only on the wood stands. It won't stick to the acrylic.

However, if you set the acrylic stand on a surface that isn't glass or shiny plastic, it will probably be just fine. You could put tape or a non-slip coating on the bottom yourself as well.

Hi Fake,

1. Wouldn't you prefer handling all these requests in a kind of online store, so you could manage orders and integrate with PayPal and display that movie you created? I'm asking because I can help with that kind of thing.

2. As I understand you made it with some kind of laser printer. Do you think it's possible for you to create a stylus imitating exact measures of the original n900 stylus? As for now, apparently there's no place on the web that sells this kind of stylus.

That's exactly what I'm doing -- I couldn't handle this without an online shop. This thread was just for reservations.

I'm setting up a shop right now using Shopify -- so far, so good. If I run into trouble, maybe I can trade some stands for some help?

I hope to report back to all people who made a reservation with a link to the shop tonight. After everyone gets their reserved stands ordered, I'll open the shop to the public.

I might be able to make a flat one, but I couldn't reproduce the 3D part of the top of it. This is a cool idea, let me see if I can come up with something.

So I wonder, could you also cut carbon fiber?

This is what I have in mind and it's of course not at all N900 related:rolleyes:
The thickness would be of ~2mm.

What do you think?

OMG Daniel,

My heart missed a beat when you destroyed that beautiful acrylic stand..
the only thing people need to know is to keep their children (if available) and heavy books away, then it will last till eternity...:D

Wonderful video and clear explanations, thanks !!!

Have a little question (asked before but due to the enormous post it got snowed under i assume).

Will it also work when you have a hard case on the N900.
I assume it does since there seem to be some sliding space still when your phone is on the stand but just wanted to ask.

mscarrot, I'm really sorry, but I made the stand to fit the phone exactly -- any case over the top and it wouldn't fit. :(

I have to admit, I had a little fun smashing that stand before anyone here even has one... :D

Carbon fiber is notoriously hard to cut with a laser. :\ It's the right kind of artwork, but the material will be a problem.
