MS doesn't build PCs. Dell doesn't develop operating systems. Nokia is doing both. Not excusing the shortcomings, because some of them irritate me too, but that's the reality.

And I don't get "then try to shaft you for the full price to upgrade". What do you mean by that? I see zero charge for the OS and applications.

Sure there have been some slight flaws in some of the hardware, and yeah, there's a lot that is broken, useless, or flat out lacking in the software/OS department, but you have to hand it to Nokia for having the guts to pull off what no one has attempted [or at least succeeded with] before.

The "seed" has been planted, it's up to the "community" to help make it grow into what we want it to be.

For me, my 770 is only a usefull web browser,
what I expect is a little less crash when surfing !

I think it's outrageous that they are telling us to spend a further $400 to get a product that works as promised when I bought the 770. For example to scroll through an e-mail. I'm not saying the 770 isn't a great tool. I use it daily. I'm just saying I've bought it already.

Nobody is telling you to spend the money - it's your choice (and btw, email is still cr@p on the N800).

Nokia have stated their case regarding ongoing support and firmware releases for the 770 - target your issues where they will do the most good by raising bugs in Maemo Bugzilla.

Other than that, your 770 is what it is and will be supported. It's just that it's not the flagship product anymore, something us gadget lovers all learn to live with in time.

Aside: Dell's never sold me a PC that works. It's always been full of Microsofts and other spywares that need to be removed.

On topic: I don't understand the source comment. Isn't there already a Maemo SVN that contains everything but the licensed code like Opera? What more is needed on this front?

Umm, so keep it? It sounds like you're *****ing about the cost of a PS3 because your PS2 won't play the new games. What did you expect? Even Dell won't give you an Inspiron E1505 running Vista to replace your older Win98 Inspiron 3700 unless you buy it.

Upset about the price? Ebay you're old one. That's how I went through 8 different Palm devices at $200-$300/piece.

I'm not talking about anything new -- new games. I'm talking about existing software that's been broken since the middle of last year. The 770 has serious bugs that have never been fixed. OS2006 has broken scroll bars in e-mail messages. Nokia need to fix the bugs in the 770 before trying to up-sell a new product and abandoning the consumers who bought the original product.

It's not the same. When you buy such a kind of product, you expect a lot of third party software. But if almost all third party software were focused on the new device, that would be a ****ing nonsense, since I bought my 770 last Christmas. I hope this doesn't happen. Nowadays I see effort in both fields (new and old). But I am very afraid in case old field wasn't dedicated at all. What would I do with my pretty new device? Use the pre-installed software (almost nothing)? I am very proud of my Tiny Linux Box. It's really "chic". But I hope it's also useful. Today it is. But I also want it to be tomorrow, and the day after tomorrow. I've used an old Pentium III till last Christmas, just to show that you can perfectly work with old but useful things.
