If you go to http://www.facebook.com/sitetour/chat.php and click on the "Other - Windows/Mac/Linux" under "connect your client" it will give you all of the info you need including your facebook username.

Is anyone else having the problem of avatars for the new facebook contacts not being picked up or is it just me?

Re: Facebook Chat

This may be a dumb question, but I don't use facebook (and don't intend to sign up)... But I have various XMPP accounts and I have friends who use facebook.

Does facebook allow chats with people on other XMPP-servers (like I'm on my ovi.com account, and you're on your facebook account, and we chat via XMPP) or is it just another interface to their closed "facebook only"-infrastructure?

Just tried sending a message from my normal Jabber account to my Facebook Jabber ID - did not yet receive the message. Seems like it's not connected to the worldwide Jabber "network" (no server-to-server connections).

It's probably a technical shortcoming (think: a non-Facebook Jabber ID starts a chat with a Facebook user who is using the Web UI - the chat-with-a-Facebook-user assumption breaks here and would require the UI to be changed (no/different avatar, no Facebook page, etc..)). Nothing that can't be solved, though

Still, a nice option to connect with people who have no other IM accounts or only on proprietary providers (MSN, ICQ, Yahoo, ...). It's also a good excuse to set up Pidgin on a friend's PC ("so you can have Facebook on the Desktop") and then adding another open-network Jabber account to their Pidgin installation. It worked back in the day for converting ICQ users... ;)

Re: Facebook Chat

Finally I and my N900 managed to sign in with facebook and send FB messages. Unfortunately not. I just learned that FB chat is not FB messages. None of my friends use FB chat. It was the messages that I am looking for. They once appeared in pidgin, and never again. I can't reproduced it with pidgin.

Anybody knows if FB messages can be integrated, with Conversations? With Pidgin?

thanks,
bbb

Got everything workin fine, quite pleased now we can use jabber. Working alot better than the haze version, and does not sign me out of the site, and also contacts stay merged! :). also i think jabber is a bit more battery friendly. The contact pictures do get saved once the contact has been online.
