some little tweaks are still desired but in overall i have to say that it is a mighty little internet-buddy right now ^^

Too bad they didn't test Firefox Mobile, as it works just fine.

did i miss something?

microb uses the mozilla engine and is optified for the n900. it simply kicks ***. :D
but firefox is too big and slow compared to microb. i tested it and have to say that it was pretty bad. o.O

Microb just rocks. It's best at playing flash of any phone, but flash 10 could make that part much better than what it is now.

Well if you disable the quick-start of microB then you will get better comparisons. They start up in about the same time. Firefox also has Weave, which in my opinion, makes it superior to any other browser there is. Also, the GUI looks great, and with more extensions coming I know what browser I will use.

Re: Browser comparisons

Microb rocks yeah, but it's javascript engine sucks :| Search for benchmarks and see it yourself on gmail and other javas "heavy" pages.

Fennec is pretty good on this area.

Re: Browser comparisons

firefox (fennec) is almost the same as microb in javascript?! so it's pretty annoying. ^^

only the webkits like tear are pretty good with javascript. they are comparable with iphone's browser. :)

Re: Browser comparisons

yeah, tear is SUPERFAST, but with some tweaks (adjusting memory cache), fennec becomes almost as fast for most sites.

Or maybe not:

Why don't you try javas benchmarks and see yourself that fennec gives totally different results.

WTF!?

look at the thread you posted.

i made this benchmark with ALL of the browsers available (at this time) for the n900!!!

microb and firefox were somewhere at 15 - 20.
tear is at 55.
and midori is nearly hitting the 64 points!

so... please... read what you're posting before you post it... ^^

EDIT: for this test i didn't tweak anything. just installed the browser and made the test. so maybe tweaking around can improve the performance on these browsers. :)

Yes. You are right. I forgot that it was Tear what i tested :|
Fennec and microb are about even on those javas tests.

iphone 3gs has a very fluid feel to it but i just hated the fact it had no text reflow. try using these forums it becomes impossible to read and replying.

i am pleasantly surprised how good opera mobile performed, i wish 9.7 was available for e71.

It seems that Omnia HD browser and Opera mini on HTC HD2 win easily by virtue of not having kinetic scrolling.

what??? care to explain

Matan 2010-02-13 13:28

Re: Browser comparisons

Kinetic scroll is might be great for "wow effect", but when browsing web sites, the most common operations - next screen, previous screen, start of page, end of page - require the user to do more than the minimum possible.

niqbal 2010-02-13 21:14

Re: Browser comparisons

ya but there are tons of other things to consider than JUST kinetic scrolling feature, irrespective of the fact it is one of the essentials today which you somehow disagree
