Re: Should I get the N900 now or wait and get the N920/Harmattan?
well it has a full internet browser with flash so facebook should not be a problem,
I am new too just ordered my n900 about 2 days ago never used linux in my life but I am hoping from post to post doing little bits of research on what i want on the phone and how to do it i figure it shouldnt be too hard as long as i use the safe repositories for apps and stay away from devel :):) |

I was thinking to get an E series instead. Also another question, how is the Ms calendar sync done? can I do it via USB/Bluetooth? |
Re: Should I get the N900 now or wait and get the N920/Harmattan?
I had a similar question before I bought it, but in the end I bought it and never looked back.
It does pretty much everything I need it too, and then some! If you decide to wait, you could be waiting along time, and by the time that comes out, there may be something else announced that you think could be better, and end up waiting for that! For that reason, I'd say buy it, forget the N920 or whatever, and enjoy the N900. |

As far as the comparison to a Symbian phone, while I am not a Linux user at all (although I have done a few simple things in xterminal, very easy really) I like the idea that the N900 is so configurable and it is fun to try and get it set up just the way I want it. This is true for the Symbian phones as well but most apps cost money in that environment so I only had those things I really needed on the phone. Here, I donate to those apps that are really useful to me if it is easy enough. By the way the mechanism of Exchange synchronization is the same in Symbian as it is on the N900 so you shouldn't use that as a criteria. Hope that helps, Fred |
Re: Should I get the N900 now or wait and get the N920/Harmattan?
can the sync be done also via wire/bt, since asking something from my IT department is hard as hell since it's outsourced and every modification needs the approval of a few supervisors. On my e51 I could do it using ovi suite, but for the n900 I understood that ovi isn't that great.

Re: Should I get the N900 now or wait and get the N920/Harmattan?
Sorry, but I never tried to sync with anything other than the exchange server. Does your IT department support email access from the web, usually the url is something like:
https://mail.yourcompaniesdomainname.com Let's assume you work for a company named alpha and your email address is emeni@alpha.com then the web based email access would be something like: https://mail.alpha.com When you go to this email address in a browser, there is a GUI that looks a lot like Outlook that gives you access to your email and calendar, etc. Anyway, all of that was a long-winded way of saying that if you have this sort of web access then the url of the exchange server is: mail.alpha.com and you don't need to talk to your IT department. This kind of syncing is much better than using OVI or PC-suite as it will happen wherever you are and you can schedule how often it does it or only when you want to. Hope that helps, Fred |
Re: Should I get the N900 now or wait and get the N920/Harmattan?
If you simply want an advanced phone then the N900 might not be the best choice for you. However, if you want a mini netbook-type device with full phone functionalities then there is no competition - the N900 rules. Of course better models will come out in a few months or so but then it is an endless cycle, better ones will always appear. For me the N900 is perfect after increasing the font sizes
